Mudcat
http://www.guitarcrazy.com.au/images/Inventory/Guitars/Other%20Electric/Ibanez_TOL.jpg I've lusted after this particular Ibanez since 1976. Denny Laine played one of these on Wings' U.S. tour that year (for "Band on the Run")and I've always thought it was gorgeous. Mudcat's music on Soundclick "Work hard. Rock hard. Eat hard. Sleep hard. Tedster
I want the custom Guild doubleneck acoustic 12-electric 6 that they made for Slash. Mark Zeger
I've always loved that Ibanez. IIRC, the single neck version was unofficial referred to as the "Bob Weir" model. I like the really elegant details like the body binding, the top edge ogee routing (reminds me of a Rick 381), the "Tree of Life" fingerboard inlay, and especially the small notches on the peghead between the machines. The only other guitars I remember with such an elaborate peghead were the Bozo acoustics. It was very impressive guitar from a company known mostly for excellent Gibson copies (as it turned out, they were a little "too" excellent). batterypowered
I was just poking around eBay to see how much those doubleneck Danos go for, and I got to see, 1. how cheap they go for, which is pretty sweet. 2. How full of CRAP eBay sellers can be, to pump their items up to sell. One said that Danelectro was no longer making the guitar, which they are, it's on the website. The other said that Danelectro is no longer making guitars, PERIOD! Now, maybe I'm missing something.... but I'm pretty sure they are. twoblock.net batterypowered.org
Caevan O’Shite
'Sall in how you look at it, to a degree, at least: The "new" danelectro is not really the same as the "old", "vintage" Danelectro. The originals were made in the '50s and '60s in Neptune, New Jersey, and some of the body parts were made of solid woods, whereas the "new" ones are made with laminates. A small difference, but that, among other small details and the effects of age, seems to make the originals just a little bit more twangy and stringy and funky sounding. Of course, it's entirely subjective as to whether or not the price difference is worth the tonal difference for a given player! But, yeah, I've seen some real BS in some seller's statements, but it's probably as much due to ignorance as to deceit. Caevan O’Shite
If you take an old U2 apart, the inner wooden part (that is laminated now) is solid. And if you play some of the oldies, you'll usually find them to be just a little more twangy and, well, "vintage" sounding. Admittedly, you may have to search through a few to find the "right" one, while the "new" ones seem to be more consistent, at least from my own experiences in guitar-store try-outs with both. Please note that I used terms like "small difference" and "just a little bit"; and that I stated that the worth of the price-difference between the old original "vintage" Danelectros and the "new" ones is debatable and subjective.
