Strident, morally bombastic, obvious, low football acumen--I'm amazed at how bad Kornheiser is at this. Give him time, yes, I suppose, but generally a good color commentator is good right from the beginning. Play by play is more of an acquired thing.

Yep, Tony sounds Korny doing MNF. :(

When the Cards were up 20-3 in the 3rd, my initial thought was, dayum, they are going to beat the Bears and mess everybody up in the Pick Em Pool. ;)

A split second later, I said to meself, nah, they will find a way to lose. I'll be damned if they din't.

Denny Green fired his offensive coordinator today.

Was it his fault?

At his Tuesday news conference, Green noted that Rowen had nothing to do with the strange series of late plays that led to the Monday night collapse:

The blindside sack of Leinart that led to Mike Brown's 3-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

The 40-yard return of Edgerrin James' fumble by Charles Tillman for another score.

Devin Hester's 83-yard punt return for the go-ahead touchdown.

Neil Rackers' miss of a 41-yard field goal attempt with 53 seconds to play.

So was this Denny the genious way of trying to fool us all into thinking it wasn't his fault? I ain't buying it.

Steve,

This likely came from the Bidwell's, the owners, in an effort to calm public tensions and opinions. Someone needed to be held accountable and it would be very stupid for the Cards to fire Green. Since it would be stupid, I'm surprised they didn't do it, ti would make sense considering all the other things they've done.

ROTFL, Silver Dragon Sound! :D:D:D

Well put!

I rue the day the Cardinals moved to Tempe. Not only did the good people of Arizona get stuck with a bad franchise, but the move created a vacancy in St. Louis that lured the Rams out of LA. The football universe has never been arranged properly since.

The world will be a better place when Bill Bidwell and Georgia Frontiere no longer own those teams

Best,

I don't know. Denny's right on the threshold of something great down there. The Arizona defense is surprisingly good - something we don't see very often there. Leinart is definitely going to be special. Next year they'll be in the Adrian Peterson lotto. Wouldn't surprise me to see them make a serious playoff run in '07...

Hmmm....Jim Fassel just got booted from Baltimore. He is an offensive coordinator and a QB specialist.:bor:

Does that mean he could end up in Arizona next year?

Just in time to further Leinart's development and work with Adrian Peterson if they get that pick.

It has to suck rocks for a coach to build a team only to get fired and another coach comes in and either has a decent record and/or goes to the playoffs.

Think Tampa Bay when they dumped Dungy for Gruden. :(

Their lineman aren't that bad

Actually they are. This line has gotten better at pass protection but they are terrible with the run. Edgerrin James doesn't have a 100 yard game an has only come remotely close once. How can you have an average below 3 yards and rush rhe ball 36 times for 55 yards? If anything the line coach should have been fired.

Of all of the sportscasters in the world, why do the worst ones gravitate to MNF? There are a lot of great radio guys out there. Hire a couple of them and boot these clowns.

In other news, did anybody catch Sean Salisbury's "most pathetic team ever" comments about the Raiders this past Sunday? OUCH!!

The Black Knight always triumphs!

Arizona's 3 straight running plays followed by the missed field goal attempt to preserve the loss was reminiscent of the Chargers' playoff loss to the Jets in the 2004 season. Drew Brees and the offense had the Jets defense on their heels as they drove down the field. Then, Marty shut off the offense as they ran 3 straight running plays to set up Nate's field goal attempt.

This might be a wakeup call that makes the Bears even more dominant. Or a game that exposes something upcoming foes can take advantage of. Time will tell. Not sure the Niners have the horses to upset the Bears though.

Color me cautiously impressed by Leinart. He's got preternatural composure, and accuracy, that's for sure, and you know what that adds up to? Chad Pennington, not Tom Brady.

I want to see Matt throw the ball downfield a bit before I hop onboard.

This just hit the newsroom...

Tampa, Fl (AP) - A seven-year-old boy was at the

center of a Tampa courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over

who should have custody of him. The boy has a

history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible.

The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her.

When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him.

After considering the remainder of the immediate

family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge

granted temporary custody to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whom the boy firmly believes

are not capable of beating anyone.

I supposed Denny Green had to throw someone under the bus. too bad. However, NO coach I've seen in the NFL ever played a down. Lost fumbles, and lack of kick return coverage on the special teams is the PLAYERS fault. DUH!

Maybe this team will start to come together, but this game was worse than watching the Oakland Raiders play football. :bor:

Thats pretty much what Denny said too. That the move had nothing to do with the awful play and mistakes in that particular game. Most to do with overall scoring week to week.

My opinion, I think the organization is a little embarrased that they went out and spent so much on Edge and so far, he looks worse than there last halfback Shipp.

Meccajay.

A running back is only as good as his offensive line or maybe the Colts knew more than they were letting on when they traded Edge. Most running backs only last 7 or 8 years and their best days are behind them.

Actually, the stats say that "most" running backs are only good for 3-4 years. It's an exception to the rule when you have a guy who can keep that brutality up for longer than that.

You know what they say... NFL = Not For Long.

I totally agree.

I was just making the connection to the organization needing to blame someone for the lack of line production, which has lead to James looking like Shipp. Firing the line coach would not have been enough blood for the fans, and whoever it was that paid for that new stadium.

For the record, I think Edge has another 2-3 years left in him. Just my opinion though.

You guys are right on. Living here in Arizona, I get to see all their games and seeing how many times defensive lineman are in the backfield and how many times Edge is hit behind the line of scrimmage is unreal.

Congrats to the Raider fans. Finally got the winless monkey off their back.

Wow, those Bucs hung tough and beat Philly by a 62-yard FG!

The Jags finally ran out of gas. There is no other way Houston would have beat them like that.

Oh well, that is why they play the games.
