Jojje
Sounds fun. I would like to participate if I can get the time to do it. But what do you mean by "just send a final 16 bit 44.1kHz version of your tune to me" Is it ok to just send a midi file? My technical knowledge in these matters is very limited... And what tune to pick? Maybe some really cobwebbed cheesy coversong that needs to be redeemed. Jojje

But what do you mean by "just send a final 16 bit 44.1kHz version of your tune to me" It means that I want an audio CD or DAT with a mixed, finished version of the tune mailed to me. Is it ok to just send a midi file? No. I am not a fan of GM - it varies too much from synth to synth, and I don't want to have to make any artistic decisions and/or mix anyone's tune for them. My technical knowledge in these matters is very limited... And what tune to pick? Maybe some really cobwebbed cheesy coversong that needs to be redeemed. That'd be entirely up to you... dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network

coyote
Sure, I'm in. If I don't do another cover between then & now, I'll remix the Gates of Babylon 2-minute thing I did and send it along. Why not! I do need to remix or re-record the lead guitar bit. http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/1869/1869469.html I used to think I was Libertarian. Magpel
I'm in in in in! I know my tune, I know my direction, and with any luck at all it will blow away my paltry little contribution to the last compilation. My tune is Jockey Full of Bourbon, by Tom Waits, and will liberally feature my new Z1. Very psyched. Besides, I have Peak and Spark XL - if I really need to, I can convert pretty much any format to any other. I'll probably just toss them all into the Masterlink to make sure that all of the levels match, just like I did on the last one....maybe add one or two dB of top end compression to smooth, but that'll be about it.... dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network

Bucktunes
Just had a brainstorm today, but I thought I'd better ask first, since I'd be treading on somewhat sacred ground; I want to do an updated version of Funeral For a Friend, but without Love Lies Bleeding. (That's the only way I can keep it under 5 minutes) I think the tune is complete enough by itself that it wouldn't sound lopped off, especially if I give it a final sounding ending. Would this be blasphemous? If you all think the idea sucks, let me know now before I get busy on it! Peace all, Steve ><> Steve

We aren't going to sell it commercially, so we don't need anyone's permission to do so. You can choose any tune you want, just keep it under five minutes. If you want to use this thread to post what tune you're going to do, feel free. If you want to surprise folks, feel free. I need an audio CD or DAT of your final mix by 12/31/01. The address to send it to is in the first post in the thread. I'll need a contribution to help pay for duplicating, packaging and mailing, but I won't know how much until I know fer sure how many tunes are going to be submitted so I guess I'll worry about that after I get all the tracks. I think that's everything... dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network

Jeff Klopmeyer
Well...I tracked my tune last night. As usual, the end result was very different from what I had in mind starting out, but I'm digging it nonetheless. It was pretty cool. We did 75% of the tracks in a four-hour frenzy at my friend's studio, Primo Digital in Lakewood (so far: bass, piano, les paul, danelectro, ovation 6, ovation 12, lead vox, 2 bck vox). My drummer's coming over on Tuesday to play over this (I tracked all of the stuff yesterday to a loop). Anyway...should be done and mixed and mastered and sent to Dave in a couple of weeks. - Jeff Marketing Communications for MI/Pro Audio My solo music and stuff They Stole My Crayon

Jeff Klopmeyer
Another update: damn, my song is getting very cool! Drummer came into the studio last night, spent about an hour getting to know the tune. We then tracked him, but it was just a few passes to get the feel down. He'll practice it over the next few days, then lay it down for real this weekend. It's funny...I'd always wanted to re-arrange the song I'm doing. I'd usually never think of "wasting time" by doing a cover song, but this is getting cool enough to want to release on my own, and it's so different from the original that it's nearly unrecognizable. A good sign: I woke up this morning and went straight to the cassette I burned as a reference last night. And...I still liked it. - Jeff Marketing Communications for MI/Pro Audio My solo music and stuff They Stole My Crayon

No feeling at all? Let me know. - Jeff Marketing Communications for MI/Pro Audio My solo music and stuff They Stole My Crayon
