Dave Bryce
Tell us about your ideal live setup. Don't worry about the cost or the roadies. You're walking out on stage to play for people - what gear is there to make sure that you have everything that you need? Describe it in as much detail as you'd like... dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network
joegerardi
Dave:A dream NEED or WANT setup????? On the NEED side, I would want my current setup - QS7, over the KX76, MIDI'ed to the DPX-1, and add an Emu Vintage Keys. I would want to add a Studiologic SL-990 or -880 under that side of the rig. A C3 with Leslie 122 (I prefer the full cabinet of the C. That way, if you have to scratch, there's something to hide behind!) with a K2xxx (61 note version, whatever it is) on top of that on the other side. That would be able to get me through anything I could think of live. On the WANT side, I would love a Steinway 9' Concert Grand, with a Prophet-10 on top, A Fairlight IIx with a Jupiter 8 on top of that; again, the C3 with the K2xxx (61 note version, whatever it is) on top of that, and the QS7 over the KX76 rig, and a Synclavier II on top of that, in a box configuration. They'd probably have to fly me into the center! For amplification, I'd want an Allen & Heath board into Crown power amps, and EAW JF290z speakers. Stereo, of course. I wouldn't worry too much about effects. If I have that rig, it's for damn sure I have a soundman to run it, and he'd know a HELL of a lot more about effects then me. That would pretty much do me... Well, that and groupies! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Setup: Korg Kronos 61, Roland XV-88, Korg Triton-Rack, Motif-Rack, Korg N1r, Alesis QSR, Roland M-GS64 Yamaha KX-88, KX76, Roland Super-JX, E-Mu Longboard 61, Kawai K1II, Kawai K4. Raymar
Well I'm one of the very few that already owns far more than I want or need. To play live though a couple of powered JBL Eons with 15" woofers would be nice for some very small venues though. coyote
I've already got some elements of it. I'll list what I have, then what I'd add. I have:-Hammond A100 w/ ring modulator thru Pro3T & Marshall Major 200watt head & 4x12 cab-Rhodes MK80 piano/controller-Roland JP8000-Fender Stratocaster-Congas, bongos, chimes, shakers, triangles, other percussion toys-Alesis Nanopiano (might consider replacing) I own but would delete:-Princeton amp-Casio WK1500 I would add:-Alesis Andromeda-Two Minimoogs-a 76-key controller/synth similar to Alesis QS7.1-Whatever modules neccessary to truly nail: -a few kickin' Hammond sounds -an accurate Clavinet sound -a dynamite MONO grand piano sound -accurate (NOT cleaned up) Mellotron samples -some really good orch, string, wind, brass sounds-another Marshall stack (50watt) for the guitar-timbales & more percussion toys The concept of sampling the Mellotron cracks me up, BTW. After all, sampling a bad sample? But it's a sound unto itself; I'd want it anyway http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif I used to think I was Libertarian. Dave Bryce
For me it'd be: Front - K2600S (maxed) and Andromeda Right - Hammond B3, D6 Clavinet (w/MoogerFooger LPF pedal for wah) and a MiniMoogLeft - Yamaha Grand w/ MIDI with a Wavestation EX on top I think that I'd be fine with just those, actually. I'd need a few MIDI cables to do a bit of interconnectivity, but besides that I'd pretty much be all set with those. However, since this is a fantasy thread, I suppose that I could use a rack that would have a MicroWave XT, MKS80, Prophet VS, EX5R, E4 Platinum, and a QSR or two. That'd do it, I think... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network

b_3guy
Someone's rig that's really a dream rig yet it's his everyday rig with Tom Petty is Benmont Tench. The core is the B-3/122, Grand Piano, Rhodes, Wurlizer, plus a couple of other boards I can't really remember (obviously not too important). What I would like to add is Mini-moog (without osc. drift, this is a dream, right), ARP 2600 & String Ensemble, Roland JD-800, Roland XV-5080. There was a noticeable increase in the stability of the oscillators as well. I imagine that you can find someone to do a similar mod, if you're willing to pay for it. dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network

Bucktunes
I'm almost there now. My steady gig is a mic'd Kawai grand piano with my Triton 76 on top. I run it through a Samson line mixer into a Qsc amp and into a pair of Mackie C300's spread about 30 feet apart for that BIG stereo spread. Sweet! OK, now if I could swap the Kawai for a 9' Steinway MIDI'd to a Triton rack I'd be in sonic heaven. Fantasy? Well, okay. How about an S80 under a Matrix 12 on my right, with the new Big Briar synth on top. Then all I'd need would be a big mirror above me, angled about 45 degrees toward the audience so they could see me! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Peace all,Steve ><> Steve

Magpel
Well, I'm not a performing keyboardist, but I don't rule it out, so: Dedicated rackmounted gigastudio computer with a couple different Piano samples on it (Gigapiano, East-West Bosendorfer and Steinway) and the great, great accordion sample that I have yet to discover (any suggestions for best accordion sample?). I'll take another dedicated computer with the NI B4 on it, so I guess I'll need two controllers, an 88 weighted and a synth action or semiweighted. Throw an Andromeda on top and I'm god to go. mEm0
I'm not too ambitious, I would prefer a streamlined, two keyboard setup. I own: a Triton pro X, plus - A6 (not the car... wait a minute... hell, I'll take the car!)- K2600R (maxed)- Titanium G4 running DP3- Wavestation SR- Proteus 2000 PLUS:+ An ultra-industrial, mechanically-automated, super heavy-duty, bounce-free, cool looking, one-of-a-kind stand to hold both my keyboards, at different heights and angles, that will fold up and be decent to cart around. + A strap-on, reliable, midied MINIMOOG. I find that in a rock context it's hard to beat: It cuts without being overly bright like, for example, some Yamaha piano sounds. No piano sound from the synths I have compares to it. The pianos from the K2000 are pathetic IMO. Now the negatives: If you solo it, it's harsch and nasal. Its effects are not adequate anymore. The dynamics aren't so great. If I want an acoustic piano sound that I can play solo, or in an exposed "acoustic" situation, I use the KeySolutions CD-ROM for the K2000. It has, among other things, a 64 meg Steinway grand that's just beautiful. Just a bit dark, but MUCH more "realistic" than the Micro. I'm also thinking of buying the William Coakley Perfect Piano, vol.III for a brighter Steinway sample. HTH marino
hammondmoron
Keep it simple....B-3 and Leslie 147 on one side, Steinway 9 footer on the other side, and prolly a Triton in case I actually decided to play something that wasn't the blues.
