Synthaholic
We played "Sick and Tired" ['I'm sick and tired foolin' around with you...'] at a wedding reception - I realized the blunder half way through the first verse. Nobody in the party noticed. I played a 50th wedding anniversary for a very 'rural' couple. I was told specifically by the person in the family who hired me "Do not play 'Your Cheatin' Heart'!". http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v707/HandsomeTramp/smilies/shock.gif I was wondering why all night. The fact there's a Highway To Hell and only a Stairway To Heaven says a lot about anticipated traffic numbers People only say "It's a free country" when they're doing something shitty-Demetri Martin
Doerfler
That would be "Wonderful tonight" I hate that fucking song. Sorry to derail the thread and go against all logic about playing what you are getting paid to do. I'll play Mustang Sally 100 times (hopefully the Young Rascal's version) if I don't have to ever again hear, let alone play, that song. Everybody's got a sore spot, even Superman had kryptonite. Carry on.

Bosendorphen
Funny, I've never played nor had a request for "Mustang Sally." Lucky me! I never enjoyed playing "Daddy's Little Girl" at weddings until our guitarist started goofing up the words ("You're the end of the rainbow, my pot on the tree...") THEN he got the great idea of medley-ing "DLG" into Genesis' "Turn It On Again." But IT WORKED! The wedding reception audience loved it! Got them to dance in 13 too! But this was back in 1982. Bill Spencer
My advice- pick 15 songs out of the lists provided here (which 15? the ones your band can do the best), then have 5 - 10 slots of 'new' stuff that cycles in and out- lately it's Bruno Mars, Cee Lo, Justin, GaGa, Thicke, Daft, etc. Get good at learning tunes quickly by ear, your repetoire will expand quickly. and by the way, my favorite tune to call for newlyweds is Rawhide- .....don't try to understand 'em, just ride, rope and brand 'em....
