PinkFloydDudi
The Kronos has the CX3 engine on it, and I also have a non-working CX3 that I will get fixed one of these days. I like the CX3 sound, and think the leslie sim is pretty great. Don't have the $ for a ventilator at the moment, so that isn't an option. But in listening to some real B3's over the weekend at a live show, I feel like my sounds are just missing the bullseye on the sound. (I realize nothing will replace the real thing, but want to get as close as I can) Do people who use the CX3, or more specifically the CX3 engine on the Kronos have any "favorite settings" they use? Any great custom sounds that really nail the real B3/leslie sound? Maybe any presets they like the best? I have never really had enough exposure to the real B3/leslie sound to be able to create the sounds on the CX3 myself. I just know enough to know that it can be tweaked to be better than the defaults. Any suggestions or help is appreciated!
dazzjazz
If you join the yahoo groups, clone wheel and organized you will find David Jacques CX3 settings somewhere in the Group files. These are good place to start and they helped me when I was starting out. www.dazzjazz.com PhD in Jazz Organ Improvisation. burningbusch
You might try the K-Sounds organs. The audio demos are very accurate as to what these sound like. He bypasses the overdrive built into the CX-3 engine and uses the insert FX instead. http://ksounds.com/html/organimation_kronos_oasys.html Busch. Delaware Dave
Just as people say the Kurzweil triple strike piano is dated for piano so is the CX3's organ/leslie sim. You can probably get some additional improvement but I'm afraid each time you hear the real deal you will still end up feeling as you do now. Ultimately, as you have already stated, your next logical, cheapest improvement step would probably be adding the vent. Until you have the cash to do that then I would focus on tweaks that are CX3 leslie-related rather than organ-related. My two cents. 57 Hammond B3; 69 Hammond L100P; 68 Leslie 122; Kurzweil Forte7 & PC3; M-Audio Code 61; Voce V5+; Neo Vent; EV ELX112P; GSI Gemini & Burn Delaware Dave Exit93band
Bill W
There was a time when I thought the CX3 was da bomb. I owned the wooden one (v2) and now have a Kronos 61. Although I was very happy with the real CX3, I can't seem to dial in a sound I like on the Kronos. No matter how much tweaking I do, it never sounds quite right. Using a Ventilator with the Kronos does make a significant difference. The Ventilator is just magic. If you can find a used one, it would be worth saving for. PinkFloydDudi
See if THIS leads you there.... link doesn't work. =( I'll check out the group and see if I can find it. Thanks for the input so far. I realize that some people don't think the CX3 is at the top, but I've listened to other clonewheels and the nord, and I still think compared to those it is one of the best. I'm sure there are a bunch of threads discussing the different ones, but I'm just looking to get the best out of what I have. I will keep an eye out for a used ventilator. Keep in mind my level of igonrance - any suggestions for what drawbar settings to use for a good rock song? Mine are either too thin with too much highs, or too low with too much low end. I always feel I'm missing the middle "punch" I hear from live B3s. Thanks again!

mate stubb
But after all that, you can still make it sound like a circus organ if you don't learn the drawbars. There are many sites with sample drawbar settings, if you google them. That will give you a place to start. Moe ---
Outkaster
Tucktronix has a CX-3 with a Vent it sounds real good. The Vent works well with it "Danny, ci manchi a tutti. Delaware Dave
interesting that DJ's settings here: http://drjohomusic.com/LeslieSimCompSettings2.html for the CX3 leslie settings he has the horn's slow/fast speeds running faster than the drums slow/fast speeds (which is how a 122/147 leslie works) but for the XK3 leslie settings he has the horn and drum speeds set to the same speed parameter.... 57 Hammond B3; 69 Hammond L100P; 68 Leslie 122; Kurzweil Forte7 & PC3; M-Audio Code 61; Voce V5+; Neo Vent; EV ELX112P; GSI Gemini & Burn Delaware Dave Exit93band

Who knows what the hell he was thinking.... But my guess is that we are talking about two different instruments with two completely different Leslie sims. And the speed that sounds good on the CX3 probably sound like crap on the XK3. If I had an XK3 I would go with Jim Alfredson's settings. That's what I used for the last year that I played one.
