Informal Drop In OT Thread

Played some Fender Jazzes today. I have to get me a fretted jazz, preferably this side of Christmas.

I saw a Q-tron micro for £30 used and I had to snap it up. I read a lot of reviews that slagged it off but it seemed so cheap that it was worth a gamble. I expected the active output from the Wal to be too hot for it but I played it this afternoon and the sound is very sweet. There's only really one sound but I'm only looking for a little something different so it didn't seem too much for one usable sound.

Lots of people walking around with cardboard boxes looking very lost today. My overtime has been stopped on account that I'm one of only four people left in the building, along with the guy who turns the lights off, the guy who locks the doors, and some expensive looking accountant type chap who is looking through the filing cabinets. A Very Bad Day. Heartfelt condolences to anyone else caught up in this mess.

Yes, and it doesn't look like it's getting better anytime soon. Times are so tough, I might only buy one bass this year. Thank God for civil service ;)

I just sold my motorcycle. It'd been sitting too long in the garage for too many years, with me in the saddle barely 800 miles each summer. I'll probably never buy another one, as I'd been having trouble with my hips and getting my feet on the pegs after a stop; I guess that means I need a "step-thru" model....The end of an era; rebel without a clue.

This one less toy will make my wife happy; she'd been very supportive of what I want to do and never gave me grief about my two-wheeler, but let's face it; there are safer sports than motorcycling. That, and the garage is now a little bigger;)

So Methinks that with the proceeds from the sale, a Steiney Synapse is in my future; or maybe a custom Moses Vertical Jump bass......

Peace

Hmmm. I bought my ducati new 3 years ago and have a bit over 2000 miles on it. I have been thinking about selling but just can't seem to do it. Maybe it's time . . . besides, there's always the XR650 which is actually a bit more comfortable on longer rides and I didn't even start it this year.

Damn work to hell . . .

ducati ..... XR650 .....

Damn work to hell . . .

1)Which Duck?

2)I had considered a trade or a sell-n-buy for a dual purpose. I've never ridden in the dirt; I figure in the dirt going 25 mph is lots of fun, while on the road it's not fun unless you're going well over the speed limit. And nobody turns left from the right hand lane when you're in the dirt.

3)Yes, sir. Work cramps my style also.

Monster 800. I love this bike but it's trouble. Toooo quick. They don't call it a Monster for nuthin'.

Dual sport is really the way to go where I am - lots of fire roads and I can ride to my favorite fishing spots.

The ability to jump a curb or get off road in a hurry if somebody does something dumb in front of you is a big plus. I think this is the best bike for someone who really loves to ride.

Also, there are some really nice SuperMotos being produced. I test rode a Husky 450 that was awesome but topped out at about 65 mph. The Honda cruises effortlessly at 65 and is very nimble.

Another argument for a dual purpose is if you drop it (knock on wood) you just kinds go "Oh for cryin' out loud", where if you drop your beautiful expensive street bike you go

"OH MY FREAKIN GAWWWD NOOOOOOOO!!" :D

Went to the 51st annual Steuben Day Parade in NYC on Saturday, it was a blast. Consumed more than my share of Hofbrau Munchen, "The Original Brew of Bavarian Kings".

Here's a short video on NY1 News of the event where I made a small cameo. On the third interview, I'm the one with my back turned to the camera

Karl - lets see some pics of that pocket-rocket!!

Paul -I'm totally anal about my bikes. My girlfriend makes fun of me when I go dirt riding and then spend 2 hours cleaning and polishing. It is kinda silly.

Did some camping in upstate New York a couple of weekends back, the Catskills region. This city boy got outdoorsy for a few days and it wasn't that bad! Someone actually had some instruments, so here are some pics of the impromptu jam:

Bass and banjo jam. I believe I was using one of those Ibanez starter basses. The action was insanely high, at least half an inch...

Actually had a little 15 watt amp powered by the pickup's battery.

OK, so a silly thing I've been doing is watching the price of memory drop to silly low levels. Of course, you young'uns never heard of a computer that didn't even have a hard drive. So ladies and gentlemen, the first that I've been able to document: a hard drive at 10 cents a gigabyte:

Another barrier broken. OK, so shipping does raise the price a little. But there you have it. And yes, it's been said that I am easily amused.

I'm only 24 but my dad's been a programer (now IT specialist or whatever his title is this week) for as long as I can remember and he's always talked to me about these things. When I started piecing together my first homebrew computer I became interested in this because about a month after I bought 2 of the biggest HDs I could get my hands on for the money I had, the price halved and suddenly there were HDs double the size for the same money I spent. I've been watching the terabite drive prices for a while now. Same thing with RAM.

Interesting how quickly the momentum builds.
