These whippersnappers dunno how good they got it!

when I was in college I worked for Apple Computer at the plant where the first Macs were made.

No hard drive and a whopping 128k of ram. Whew! Hot Rod!!

You were lucky if it could get through a game of chess.

I Remember!

"If you can point and click, you can use a Macintosh!!". I flirted with Macs since these early days, then spent some years on the "dark side" of PCs, and in the early-mid 2000's went back to macs, all the way, without turning back (except for Linux, only, on a few machines).

But what finally got me sleepless for several years, and which handled (in an easy, friendly, beautiful way) my musical chores for almost 8 years was this pretty machine: The Atari 1040 ST. 1 Meg RAM, system on CMOS, no hard disk drive. You turn it on, it loads the system, then you load the program from a floppy, then replae with a floppy with your on material (In my case, it was Passport's Master Tracks Pro, and my floppies with MIDI sequences).

It even sported a couple MIDI ports on the side, was total ready-to-go plug & play!. Oh, those days...

Another "Tennessee" eccentricity: HERE.

And they call it "UFO"! ! !

That makes at least three somekindamonster instruments made by the "tennessee" brand I've seen already.

Makes me wonder.. if I get some day really, really filthy rich, would I sell all my instruments, buy me a couple or threesome "Tennessee" beasts as these, and spend the rest of my days trying to be proficient at them, and even worse, trying to find me a gig playing these things... :P

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey Guys, I don't often drop in here, but I've been learning to sing & play bass at the same time.

We recorded this last night - 'All or Nuffin'

Geoff, I tried to learn that . . . and realised it's not the bass playing and singing at the same time I sucked at . . . rather just singing full stop.

MySpace is blocked here - I'll try to have a listen tonight.

Did you ever get to see that Geoff Beck gig?

I've got it on tape, Phil, but I haven't had the chance to watch it yet.

About 3 weeks ago I couldn't play & sing, but I kept trying, and as long as the bassline isn't too busy, I manage.

Nicely done.

I used to sing lead, and while I struggled with some songs, some I managed pretty well. Over the last 4 years we've had a real singer, and my ability has just about left me...

I did the sing and play thing for years and while some songs gave me trouble, for the most part it was reasonably easy.

Here's one from the - archives

One of our friends recorded it on his cell phone. Pardon the butchery in the transition there - one of the few times we actually didn't hit it.

This bass gave me a chuckle. The only control is an on/off switch :D

New angle of the Wal, didn't think anyone would notice eh? ;)

Did anyone happen to notice it also features an Opti-Grab device? If I got one of those I'd have to rename my dog sh.... Oh, never mind. Unfortunately, I'll be torturing my workmate with renditions of "I'm picking out a thermos for you."

If you think my playing is bad, you should hear me sing!
