  1. I realised it was Dire Staits-ish when I put it down. I've been listening to 'The Rag Picker's Dream' recently & it's obviously influenced me. G.
  2. http://www.soundclick.com/geoffbyrne Two new songs at the top. G.
  3. A couple of 'sketches' I clobbered together while up in Scotland for a few days. There was a hurricane blowing through (peak gust = 165mph!) so I kept my head down that night & popped these onto the Fostex. They are not perfect, some inaccuracies, but just working out an idea or two. I don't usually play slide & I forgot to bring a plectrum (pick to you transatlantic guys) so I played lead in 'All Right By Me' using my fingers & improvised the solo. I used a plastic paper clip in 'Straw In Your Hair' and I don't usually play slide, but it seemed right for this. I didn't mean to leave 36 in the middle, but suffered a 'Zen' moment listening to my own music & missed the 'in'(!!!). Fostex MX8 fed through a Digitech Genesis 1. Yamaha G5A bass with RBX365 pickups. Custom Strat with DiMarzio TDS1s bridge & neck with a Levenson Blade centre pickup. EV microphone. (Can't I embed Soundcloud here?) I've added these to my Soundcloud & Soundclick accounts. Have to say I think the sound quality is better with Soundclick - headphones desireable here. http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11283092 http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11283098 G.
  4. Another thing you can do is to bore very fine holes at the position-marker points, then cut down some dome-headed pins to a shaft-length of about 2-4mm & knock them in. G.
  5. *Replacing* the fingerboard would be very expensive. It would be much easier to get side markers put in - in fact you cou;d do it yourself - quick tap with a hammer & punch & fill the hole with a good white enamel. Just need to get accurate measurements. Go on flatwounds. Sounds like your wiring needs sorted out. Know any techs? If you were near here, I'd do it all for ya, but you insist on living abroad!!! G.
  6. Vince is alive & well & posting regularly at the String Network Forums. http://www.thestringnetwork.com/ You can always PM him. Geoff
  7. Happy New Year, Phil. How'd the gig go? G.
  8. Thanks Guv!! G. There's a couple of additions to the website. I'm singing & playing lead on 'Baker Lane'. G.
  9. These days I only play for my own amazement!!!!! G.
  10. I've got it on tape, Phil, but I haven't had the chance to watch it yet. About 3 weeks ago I couldn't play & sing, but I kept trying, and as long as the bassline isn't too busy, I manage. G.
  11. Hey Guys, I don't often drop in here, but I've been learning to sing & play bass at the same time. We recorded this last night - 'All or Nuffin' http://www.myspace.com/mainstreetuk G.
