  1. What a gem Franz was - he's an excellent author on top of his music projects, fascinating guy. Audio link
  2. Just on one small point: unless you're going to be super mobile during the show, it could be worth removing the wireless part of the chain. I use Westone IEMs and a Radial KL-8 as the audio interface / line mixer. My Westones are plugged directly into the KL-8 output albeit with an extension cable to maximise my movement although it'ss not really necessary. Once I got my gain staging right it's been happy sailing ever since
  3. Yep that's a small space though they spent close to a decade playing Australian pubs in spaces like that so they probably weren't even fazed
  4. That's an amazing story - thanks for sharing!
  5. Black jeans, a size above what you may normally wear. Comfortable, ok for setting up and pulling down. Or wear underwear only - no-one's looking at us anyway.
  6. Lessons, lessons and more lessons. With a teacher who gets playing live rock / jazz / pop
  7. Most impressive increase in marketing emails in spite of already sending too many: Native Instruments
  8. @Tusker I love Bill Bailey but hadn't seen that - love it
  9. I think Darren means this week's show , that we were both at (sadly I didn't see Darren!). The bass was full on....
  10. Good point re: PA, lots of gut rumbling bass at this show as well
  11. That's right - and that's what the article discusses - there was a view for a time that they were but science shows they aren't
  12. An interesting article that teases out the difference between memory and perception (albeit from a visual perspective): https://www.wired.com/story/how-your-brain-distinguishes-memories-from-perceptions/
  13. Still a visual feast and sounded great. Huge banter from Ralf between songs* * This is obviously a lie Had to laugh when leaving I hear someone say to their friend 'they didn't move around much'
  14. Agreed - I don't have perfect pitch but as MOI and Steve have said, it's perception not memory, which can be two very different things. When I've interviewed players with perfect pitch what's struck me the most clearly is the fundamental perceptual nature of it i.e. when a keyboard is transposed the player does not like it at all, not because they 'remember' the pitch ascribed to that key on the keyboard, but because when they perceive both the visual (the key being pressed) and the auditory (the sound heard), there's a perceptual dissonance. I'm probably not grasping it anywhere near fully either...
  15. No problems: Link 1: Link 2: Link 3: And it's all over here: https://forums.musicplayer.com/forum/23-virtual-music-online-collaboration/page/6/
  16. Such a briliant guy - here's a song he wrote and sang to raise funds in 2004 for the huge Tsunami in Asia. Fellow forumites helped out with all the other instruments. RIP Tedster you will be hugely missed:
  17. Yep loved The Pogues, Shane led one hell of a life - RIP
  18. I do both, depends on the song. I have my stool and Spider Pro set up so I can comfortably sit or stand without adjusting anything.
  19. Audio link (Part 1) Audio link (Part 2) Morris was great to speak with - lots of interesting stories about working in the inner circle of Prince and related acts.
