  1. I'm almost positive that's EXACTLY what most guitarists do ...
  2. I took up electric bass in early '87, started upright about six months later, went to college as a music major for bass (classical and jazz). Ended up going in a different direction but still played on and off in rock and jazz groups until a few years ago. I consider myself mainly a keys player these days, but I'm still probably a better bassist than I am a keys player. It's interesting to hang here and all piano / keys related internet spaces and hear complaints about bassists, and then go to TalkBass, etc., and hear them complain about keys players. . It always surprises me the strange conflicts about "range" that come up, considering most folks in both groups listen to plenty of music with both keys and bass, often with arrangements that involve overlapping ranges to very good effect. Of course, it's all about arrangements, mixing, etc., especially EQing. Can't we all just get along?!
  3. I couldn't guess the answer to the OP's question. In related news, I've been re-watching the Third Doctor's run on Doctor Who recently, and there's a snippet of an old King Crimson song, "The Devil's Triangle," that's supposed to be on the car radio in a scene of "The Mind of Evil."
  4. I've made some health-related improvements over the last year and I'd like to kick it up a notch this year. All the usual with regard to eating better, drinking a tad less, exercising more consistently, dropping a few pounds, etc. Practice piano more consistently. This year wasn't too bad, but not long ago I had a stretch of a few years where I was really disciplined about it, and I'd like to get back to that. Having said that, I also resolve to let my cat spend damn near as much time on my lap as she likes. We lost one cat back in April and another the October before that, so we're down to the one now, and she's not getting any younger. As long as we have left with her, she gets what she wants. And generally try to be a nicer person. I've started to get grumpy and impatient in my old age, and I'd like to nip that in the bud so I'm more pleasant to be around ...
  5. I think I spent too much time trying to do too much. As much as I love the idea of being a multi-genre pianist, that's probably beyond me at my age. These days, I'm more focused on a smaller number of styles, so I can spend more time on them, rather than just a little time on a whole bunch of things. My advice would be to pick some reasonably narrow goals to begin with and really focus on that. You can always investigate others styles and genres later once you have your main ones under your belt.
  6. I had no idea Christine Perfect (McVie) could play like this.
  7. We just received a Roland v-drums td-27kv2 for the missuz, the household percussionist. I still don't have it all put together yet ... It's quite a set up from her Aelsis Surge Mesh kit! A pro demo video, if you're interested:
  8. Nice. I'm looking at the 10-channel version of that, maybe to buy next year. Let me know how you like this one.
  9. Yeah, man. I mean, usually I just count to three of four, but sometimes if I'm feeling crazy, I count to five or six. And don't even ask me about the one time I had to count to seven ...
  10. Haberdashery! (I don't get a chance to use that word much ... )
  11. Nice! I dig the Tele, been thinking about buying myself one before too long. Those Cube amps are fun too!
  12. Nice! I wondered how well the breath control could sense such things. I might have to put one on my Sweetwater wish list ...
  13. Neat! I played saxophone decades ago (4th grade through high school). No desire to get back into it seriously, but admittedly the Aerophone looks fun.
  14. A book to help me sing better ... https://www.amazon.com/dp/1540062872
  15. A few days ago, I was listening to Samantha Fish live. (Someone else's video, FYI.)
  16. I know: weird. . There's a drummer in the household ...
