  1. Joe Cocker's version of She Came in Through the Bathroom Window is similar to the Beatles' original, but I like Cocker's version a little better. [video:youtube]
  2. Yes, a friend of mine knows an AC/DC tribute band that employs a wall of Marshall facades on each side of the drummer. It does a much better job selling the image, and the audience doesn"t seem to notice!
  3. Interesting ... I like and often use the Nord MK V sample for the same reasons. It has a nice bark too
  4. Chris Carroll of Vintage Vibe has a story on the Keyboard Mag site discussing the early Rhodes MK V 88 Note Prototype ( news to me), including some neat history on the MK V Rhodes MK V 88 Prototype
  5. To use quite a different example, the Count Basie Orchestra still tours. I haven't seen them in a long time, but I would - and it would definitely be all about the music!
  6. I use a Tripp Lite Isobar 4-Outlet unit which I like and that seems to get good reviews. It's very rugged. So far I (thankfully) don't have any evidence it doesn't work well!
  7. Oops - we posted at the same time I've never tried doing it that way. It'll be interesting to know what you think....
  8. Maybe using the OUTPUT ROUTING MODE trick would work?
  9. Alternately, you could set the OUTPUT ROUTING MODE to the "PartL : L, PartU : R" setting. According to the manual, "With the PartL : L, PartU : R setting Part Lower is routed to the left output and Part Upper to the right, both being in mono." Then you could use the mixer to get a single output.
  10. Just summing the two stereo outputs could results in phase cancellations... Even though the 5D doesn't appears to have a dedicated mono out when just using the "L" jack, using just one of either of the jacks seems to work fine if you use the Mono button in the piano section. Then the pianos come out mono, and the organs and (I think) most of the samples are mono. Some of the effects might be off, but then one wouldn't use those effects in mono anyway. Using only one output with the rotary sim seems to work just fine (maybe even better than if the two channels were summed?).
  11. unless you are a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band, no band needs three guitar players, no matter how good they are. Love you bro, don't mean to piss on your parade. We're a six piece band with two guitars and me on keys. Our lead singer wanted to get a third guitarist to go for the Lynyrd Skynyrd vibe. Fortunately, I and the two guitarist weren't happy with the idea, so we didn't go that way. Dodged a bullet!
  12. Nice flow chart! I originally said "seems that" because I have no detailed knowledge of the path on your chart that leads to "Profitable Musician." Can a non-big-name musician do reasonably well financially just with performing?
  13. Yes, it certainly seems that, except for the biggest names, very little money is to be made from performing or recordings. But I guess the situation is similar in sports -- the biggest names make enormous sums, but everyone else (like a minor league baseball player) makes very little.
  14. New book out about the music business and economics by economist Alan B. Krueger. I haven't read it yet, the reviews look mixed.... Here's the Amazon link: Amazon: Rockenomics Quincy Jones is quoted as saying: "An absolutely brilliant mind. The definition of left and right brain balance!!"
  15. Wow indeed! Sinatra's reaction at the very end reveals what he things of the phenomenal arrangement!
  16. This -- and the flip side.... I lived in Chicago for a while and took the bus. It was absolutely frigid outside while we waited for the bus on winter mornings, so we dressed with multiple layers. The bus driver didn't wear a jacket, etc., and so had the heat cranked. After getting on the bus and sitting for a while, we'd melt like Frosty the Snowman!
  17. Awesome EP solo starting ~4:30.... [video:youtube]
  18. I use GarageBand - it came with the computer, is relatively easy to use, and handles my limited needs well. Even a number of the samples are useable.
  19. I still don't have the New Thread button or the reply area....
  20. Looks like Page and Plant will get their new day in court: Court agrees to listen to Led Zeppelin in Stairway appeal An "11-judge panel will hear the case in late September in San Francisco."
  21. Something a little different from Kansas. Apparently they played this for the sound check and liked it so much they put it on a live CD! Short keys solo too... [video:youtube]
  22. I came across this nice, easy reading summary... What happens to your massive music library with the end of iTunes?
  23. Yes, I would likely include the B if I saw A13. Unless it didn't sound right. Sometimes b9 fits better...
  24. A zipper fix that's worked for me is plain old Chapstick - I know, sounds weird, but works. It's paraffin based, not petroleum, so it makes the teeth glide and stay on track better. I hit mine about every 6 months or so and they do get snagged less. Jake Thanks! I'll give that a try.
