  1. Definitely a genuine question! And thanks to those above for the replies. So if they can have different stops, there must be a somewhat complicated mechanism for changing the combinations of strings?
  2. Whoa - two keyboards (manuals?)? And the top one occasionally plays by itself! Any harpsichord players out there that can explain?
  3. I run keys directly into the stereo line inputs (in the back) on my Focusrite 18i6. The levels tend to be a little low, especially for the Nord Electro 5D, but it"s manageable. In a live situation, I go through a mixer first. One of the reasons is to get the level up before going to FOH. It"s hard enough to get the sound guys to make keys hear-able, and I feel like I have no chance if they have to pushed the fader all the way up.
  4. Mark, if it comes to this, count me in - I'd be happy to help.
  5. I had many issues for a long time. After moving several times, I finally had enough and got rid of them. It's funny how the internet gives the impression that everything will always be "out there" to grab whenever you want.....
  6. My copy just arrived. It is indeed a beautiful book, filled with detailed photos. I've been skimming through it, and it looks like it's going to be a fun and interesting read. More importantly, perhaps, it looks like it'll be an excellent reference -- not only for the history and details of the keyboards themselves, but also for information about the musicians who played them, for the effects used to get certain sounds, and for which keyboard was used on a bunch of songs.
  7. We have always wanted to give Monk a try (yeah, I know, we're a little late....). Now we have a little time. It's truly wonderful.
  8. No, and we're all quite sure it's gonna take a few practices just to get synched up again before the next gig! (whenever that is....)
  9. Nice interview with Wynton Marsalis starting about 9 minutes into this 60 minutes story. He talks about losing his dad and the impact of the Coronavirus.
  10. Every time I buy something of some value (musical instruments, appliances, etc) I search for in-depth and objective reviews, and it's often a challenge. I originally found Keyboard Corner (and, by extension, other MPN content) when I was trying to find useful information and reviews on keyboards. I definitely appreciate these reviews!
  11. There's something to that. I've always found that a nice acoustic piano is far more forgiving of my sloppy piano technique than any snarky electronic substitute I've found. I find that an acoustic piano sounds good with a wider range of chord voicings than the electronic versions.
  12. For gigging, the Electro 5D checks almost all the boxes for me. The B3 clone with drawbars and the sample section make for a nice top board (which I currently pair with the P-121 on bottom). It's also easy to move around and has a nice interface. Given that it also has a nice piano section, I need only take the Electro to practices and quick-turn gigs. I would, though, like a more suitable keybed and perhaps a little more synth functionality (like pitch bend and mod wheels). For home, I'd like a nice acoustic piano, but I don't see that happening anytime soon! Perhaps I'll get a P-151 or Kawai one of these days...
  13. Yeah, you can definitely hear both the Beatles and Springsteen in there - very nice!
  14. That was one of the first tunes I learned when I really got into playing the piano (Let It Be was the very first) and it became -- and remains, really -- my solo piano party piece. Yes, exactly, that's my intention too. Since I don't practice much solo piano stuff, I'd like to have a few things up my sleeve (namely, Lady Madonna and Linus and Lucy) to call on if somebody says, "oh, you play the piano, let's hear something." Unfortunately, I don't even practice these enough to be able to play them out of the blue. Fortunately, no one ever asks!
  15. I've got that one down cold. I even have a setup on my Forte that lets me bring in the the ba ba ba backing vocals (stacked under the piano in that range only, volume controlled by footpedal) using the Manhattan Transfer sample set. dB Very nice! I guess I have some more work to do!
  16. I like working on a piano-only cover of Lady Madonna. It takes some effort to get it all going right (especially since I don't usually have a lot of left-hand work going on playing in a band). It's a lot of fun, and it's a great song for piano - when I play it right!
  17. Really makes perfect sense. Charlie Brown fits into a long tradition of kids who are considered uncool by their peers in school, but use their sense of exclusion and loneliness to become artists of great depth. I always figured him to be more of a punk-musician type, though. Good point. And unlike his talent with the guitar, with regard to his singing, ... and I'm just being honest here ... I think he is lip-synching.
  18. I always had a lot of respect for Schroeder, but had no idea that Charlie Brown had that kind of talent! (Thanks for posting. That was fun.)
  19. At first I thought, well, that's one way to get a less expensive Stage. But then I remembered what we spent on buying Lego kits for our kids!
  20. Full size Nord Stage built out of Legos on "The Brickman" Incredible amount of work... Fine example of something to do during the shutdown? [video:youtube]
  21. One of the annoying things about BandMix is trying to search for bands to join. Unfortunately, individual musicians who are also looking to join a band will have a listing that includes every musical instrument known to mankind (just like what is shown in the screenshot posted by OP). So, if you search for an existing band that's looking for, say, a keyboard player, you get numerous hits involving individual musicians with those shotgun listings.
  22. I don't know what preset you're using on the K12.2, but STUDIO MON should work nicely for this application.
  23. Some reports about Nashville musicians to hold concert for tornado relief From AP:
  24. Incidentally, when I get back home, I only need to unpack the two keyboards and the iPad. Everything else is in place (e.g., I have two sets of pedals). I also us an OnStage Z stand at home. I bought the two tier version, but didn't need the second tier support arms, only the piece in the back that holds up the second tier. I put some rubber on the top of that piece, and then I can rest the back of the Nord on that. Initially I wasn't going to use the second tier support arms at all, but then it occurred to me that I could use them to support the music holder that came with the P121. This pic shows how it looks without the Nord in place...
