  1. STOP STOP STOP that self brow beating! You have a great voice Mr. Stokely! Nice job I'll say! And your voice sounds remarkably like Jackson Browne's. Together with the nice take on the piano accompaniment, the recording somewhat sounds like someone captured Browne in a more contemplative moment.
  2. Thanks - yes I'll try that too. And, I've seen that MIC warning too, but have not been sure how to interpret it. Does it mean only use the MIC setting if a mic (but not an instrument) is plugged into the 8.2? Or does it mean only use the MIC setting with a mic if the mic is plugged directly into the 8.2 (that is, not going through, say, a mixer first)?
  3. Yes, I've enjoyed the convenience of using the 8.2's mic pre-amp on my Nord when the output needed a little boost. So far I've only tried it with a DI box in the middle. I'll have to try going straight in with the 1/4" connector and see how well it works.
  4. Interesting... I'm no EE either, but it looks like they took a different approach with the 8.2. I don't know how to link to the image in the manual, but the image is consistent with this statement: "When MIC is selected, the MIC Pre-amp is activated, and the yellow MIC level LED illuminates."
  5. Reezekeys - I'm not sure what you mean here. The block diagram shows that moving the mic/line switch to mic brings in the mic pre-amp. Is that not a gain stage?
  6. AnotherScott - maybe a dumb question, but does it matter if this is accomplished by a) going 1/4" to a DI box and then XLR to the QSC (which is what I've been doing), or b) just using a 1/4" to XLR cable?
  7. I also like the 8.2 (no experience with the ZXA1) as well as the QSC bag to carry it. Sounds great with the Nord pianos. Because of the Nord's low output level, I've tried the Nord with the 8.2's mic preamp input (being careful to avoid distortion), and seem to have had good luck with that.
  8. I received prescription allergy eye drops, and the label directs me to "Instill one drop into both eyes...." I tried carefully placing one drop on the bridge of my nose, to no avail. Any thoughts?
  9. I use the mono setting on the 5D and it sounds pretty good in terms of not having unevenness due to phase issues, etc
  10. One solution...Some DI boxes take in stereo inputs (from the powered speakers, for example) and are able to sum them to provide a mono XLR output that you could send to FOH
  11. Maybe the Studiologic SL73 Studio would fit the bill, if you don't need sounds onboard (and whenever it actually becomes available) Agreed - although I'm still nervous about that TP100 action in the SL73. Its predecessor the Acuna looked perfect on paper, but had such a horrible action I had to return it. I wanted to love that board, but I couldn't make it happen. Yes, I have the same concern, and nowhere to try to SL88 or SL73 (when it's available). I'm considering the same type of arrangement as you, except (currently) with an Electro instead of a Stage. Thus, the P121 caught my attention too, until the lack of 5-pin MIDI.

  13. Thanks Dave and Dan. Theres a lot to learn here. It really demonstrates how useful an Internet forum can be.
  14. Hi everyone, Thanks for letting me (and everyone else) eavesdrop for a while on your conversations. The information discussed here has been highly beneficial. I'm going to post a question, but thought I'd introduce myself first. Like some others here, I'm getting back into playing after many years of putting music largely on hold due to education, career, and family stuff. I'm playing mainly blues/rock, and have gotten myself into two startup bands with some decent musicians. Thus far one band has had only the occasional gig and the other is still working up to that. But it's been fun, even though I'm peddling as fast as I can to build up my chops! Joe
