  1. The great Donn Trennor once told me that he didn"t ask to sit in and refused to sit in if asked. He also wouldn"t allow others to sit in. The audience was there to hear the hired players, not random people who wanted to show off. They can go to open jams to sit in.
  2. Dave, I 'don"t do organ,' either, but am I glad I have it now. Yesterday at a literally hot (and sweaty) jazz gig, the audience was going wild with the layered B3 under, then over, the AP or Rhodes, smearing up to the fast Leslie chord at the end of Little Sunflower, and laying some vibrato organ under the sax on some fast standards. I"ve never seen such an enthusiastic bunch at a jazz gig. It"s a whole new world, and so easy to do on this board.
  3. If you"re just trying to hear yourself onstage when plugged into FOH, an easy solution is to plug some earbuds into your keyboard"s headphone jack. Lightweight, too!
  4. I"m playing in a few outdoor venues, and one issue at two places is a resonance or standing wave. At one restaurant, A2 really booms, and at the other, C3 booms. It is so loud when you play those notes (left-hand bass for me) that I literally try to avoid them. Both restaurants have hard ceilings (slightly different heights) and floors, and one wall against which we set up. Has anyone else encountered and fixed this?
  5. I"ve stored all my equipment in my garages for 20 years with no problems. Everything is in a soft case, so I assume the rodents don"t like the material for some reason. The CP4 was never affected, although I was always careful to give the keyboard some warm up time in its case when moving it from a cold garage to a warm venue; taking a 30 degrees hunk of plastic into a warm, moist room would concern me.
  6. The last post for these speakers was from a few years ago. Has anyone bought these for use with their keyboard?
  7. Flipflip, I think there is a way to put two instruments in one Part if you can do with fewer 'Elements' for each of the two instruments. If you go into Part Edit, you will find that you can set the key range for each of the up to eight elements within the part. Build each of the two instruments for your split by selecting only four elements (instead of eight) for each instrument and set the key range for each set of four elements to make your split. I hope this makes sense. And, no, I haven"t done this before.
  8. I"ll take a shot at the three sensor process. In a two-sensor keybed, the velocity of each keystroke is determined by measuring the time from when the key passes the upper position (slightly depressed) to when it bottoms out. The shorter the time, the higher the velocity. The key must return to the top before this time can be measured for the next key strike, therefore, fast repeated keystrokes can be difficult because of the time it takes for the key to return to the top. With a third sensor, the velocity can be measured from a middle sensor point, not needing the key to return to its full height to start the next key strike. Faster repetitions are thus possible.
  9. Regarding 3 sensor action, do you need to have one to have a high trigger set for organ?
  10. That sounds like a noisy power source to me, not lack of grounding.
  11. I thought the Clavinova grand in my local restaurant felt and sounded great, and looked pretty good, too.
  12. My $1500 hearing aids from Costco do the same thing. Most new hearing aids come with Bluetooth streaming capability.
  13. If you"re going to be doing this a lot, does it make sense to get a small car battery or lawn mower battery and inverter?
  14. Take a look at the current rating in the PA"s specs. In the US, multiply the current (amps) by 110 (volts) to get a rough idea of the wattage. I think you PA uses about 0.5 amps in steady state, so it will use 50 to 60 watts.
  15. Great service from Thomann. In fact, they once sent me the wrong $180 keyboard bag, told me to keep it and sent me the right one.
  16. I bought a pair of these stools last night on the way to practice, put the speakers by my knees behind the keyboard, and turned up. What a difference. I was able to project more sound (that is, play louder) without crushing my ears, and the tone, as expected, filled out to the point that I had to roll off the lows more than usual. Thanks for the tip.
  17. Before COVID, I played a whole set as usual with a big band, with my noise isolating earbuds plus 2 ZXA1s. After the set was done, I discovered I had never turned on the ZXA1s - no one heard me, yet no one even commented about it. Not a real ego boost.
  18. Does anyone know what the technical reason is that balanced would be better than unbalanced for this? Cords from keyboard to amps are maybe 8 feet long. I have an output level adjustment on the YC88. I will try a 3 or 6 dB boost tonight, plus lower the speakers so they don"t blast me out when they"re loud enough for everyone else.
  19. I"m feeding 1/4' directly from keyboard to amps, but amps are turned up only 50%.
  20. I am having trouble being heard in a large acoustic horn band. I use two ZXA1s raised 3 feet on either side of my keyboard, facing forward but turned in a little so I can hear myself. I run the AP output in stereo. Question: would AP sounds punch through better if I send in mono?
  21. Thanks for all your great comments. So, I played with a BB last night, tried turning it down for the first set, and realized after nothing changed that the other band members didn"t really hear me anyway. Some audience people commented to me about not being able to hear me. Next time, I am feeding the FOH and asking the sound guy to do something. Starting a new thread about stereo vs mono presence.
