  1. When playing with loud bands, primarily 17-piece big bands, my piano doesn"t punch through when playing solos. Are others here adjusting their volume somehow during solos to be heard? How are you doing this? Thanks in advance.
  2. I"ve used a CP4 as controller, used a foot switch for fast/slow Leslie, and mapped the right 5 draw bars to the mod wheel so I could play 88800000 for jazz and dial in the rest for the big squabble at the end of a song.
  3. I seem to recall that the MoDX88 keybed also uses flexible plastic as a fulcrum rather than a mechanical pivot.
  4. The only downside I have found with Affinity is that I have had some difficulty understanding customer service folks.
  5. Check out Affinity Cellular. It"s supposed to be for AAA members only, possibly not. Really cheap and uses Verizon network. We"ve had them for years.
  6. Belated thanks for your comments, folks.
  7. I"m thinking that there may be some natural resonant frequency of pressing the key down, then having the key bounce and push your finger back up. That bounce/push back up is one thing I like about CP88s action.
  8. The Kurz SP6 has a high trigger option, so I assume the PC4 does as well.
  9. Solved: DIYMore USB isolator for little $ on Amazon. It"s a little twitchy, but if you plug cables in in the right order, it works!
  10. Thanks, all. I just ordered an isolator from Amazon. OT, but I ordered an inexpensive MIDI to USB adapter from Amazon that didn"t work, and when I went to return it, Amazon refunded my money but told me not to send the device back. Stand-up customer service!
  11. I am trying to run B-3X on an iPad, sending MIDI from a CP4 through the USB port and then through a camera adapter to the iPad. The iPad sends sound out the headphone jack into the Aux input on the CP4. There is a constant faint hum when both USB and audio cables are connected, and removing either cable stops the hum. I have tried a Yamaha Bluetooth MIDI adapter, which eliminated the hum but introduced unacceptable latency. Has anyone eliminated the hum running B-3X with a CP4?
  12. Thanks for all the feedback. My ears actually roll off the highs, so I may tend to boost highs at the expense of the lows, thus I do listen to the advice of my band mates whose ears aren"t yet ruined. We practice tomorrow and plan to try adding a pa with large woofer to the mix just to see if that satisfies.
  13. Thanks for your comments about a dedicated bass amp. However, I"m using mostly my MODX for this application, which does not have separate sets of lines out.
  14. Has anyone used this combination? I"m asking if the 'cleanliness' of the ZXA1s is compromised if one adds an EV sub to the amplification in order the boost the low end. A small group I play with wants more bottom end for my left-hand bass.
  15. I liked the Kurzweil SP6 action more than the RD88, FWIW.
  16. I"m now on my third keyboard using this method: I use 3M foam tape to attach a very thin steel plate, about 4x5 inches, to my plastic-bodied keyboard top. I have an old speaker magnet that attaches with magnetism to the bottom of my steel-bodied Yamaha mixer, and it then sticks to the metal plate on the keyboard. I did try Velcro tape, put it was too hard to remove or peeled off. For an iPad, I would stick another thin steel plate to the back of its case with 3M tape. People warned me about the magnetics affecting the electronics, but nothing has changed. There may be an issue with the iPad"s auto-off feature that relies on a magnet in the case flap, though.
  17. I"m with Pauleway on the CP4, but I think it weighs 38.5 pounds. I use my MODX8 for gigs that need several zones of good sounds and sequencer, like tiny cover bands, and use the CP4 for jazz gigs because of the action and great piano sound. It just makes me play better. I"ve considered the CP88, but in the end I didn"t see that the enhanced interface was worth the cost for my needs.
  18. A CP4 running B-3X on an iPad is a killer combination. And the Leslie is apparently better than the YC.
  19. Well, I"ve reached the age where I need hearing aids to adequately understand others" speaking. I bought a pair and have been wearing them for three days with some success. However, I am getting some significant phases distortion when playing or listening to music. Fortunately, I can mute the hearing aids, which takes care of the problem. Has anyone had any success with hearing aids with music?
  20. I"ve had much success with multiple layers (as needed) of Walmart mattress toppers enclosed in faux velvet (also from Walmart). Very inexpensive, soft, adaptable. To keep the 'blocks' in place, I sew them to the inside of the case with a few strategically placed tack points using thin fishing line. I have also made a 1 inch thick enclosed pad that I attached to the case cover inside because the case was too deep for the keyboard.
  21. Your FC7 experience is similar to mine. Worked fine at home, then on a gig periodically the SP6 would just lock up, requiring a panic reset. Never did figure it out. I just started using a pedal with the right tsr wiring.
  22. Sorry, I meant the expression pedal
  23. I"m just curious. Are you using an expression pedal that was made for this keyboard. Believe it or not, I was using an FC7 with an adapter that kept (I think) locking up my SP6.
  24. I think the Leslie speed is related to an effect you apply to the raw organ engine. There are different types of Leslie effects you can chain.
  25. I think the keybed in the SP6 feels better than the one in the Yamaha. However, I sold my SP6 to buy a MODX8 because I couldn"t deal with its APs. They didn"t have enough dynamic range for the way I play.
