  1. Hi Ioannes, Other than the information at kurzweil.com we cannot give any more details of the architecture. But yes, Lena is an FPGA that can be updated on the field. We have actually included updates of Lena at least in one product updates. Regards, Fran
  2. For those of you who enjoy reading, there is a great novel, not technical, called Grand Obsession: A Piano Odyssey by Perri Knize that tells you a story of a woman in the search of her perfect piano sound... I'm not going to spoil it for you but if you are interested in these thread you are going to like it. It was in my public library. Regards, Fran
  3. Rest in peace. A legend for all of us working on this business. Fran
  4. It sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing that link. They have great songs. One thing that I wonder is if they recorded this in the afternoon that day, as I believe that programs does, how many hours may have an engineer had to work on a this mix so that it sounds so good? I bet they don't leave the audio "as is" and they mix it during those hours but I might be wrong and it might directly sound this perfect. But If they have a guy doing that, it must be a pretty stressful job to do, as you have, say 4 hours, to mix and make it sound the best as possible, knowing there is no possible delay. Anybody knows how do they do those things on this kind of program? Fran
  5. Hi, The Switch buttons LED colors go as this: If the button has a MUTE ZONE functionality, then the ON state is RED+BLUE (pink/purple). If you are using the SOLO functionality then you'll get RED If the button has any other functionality, then the ON state is blue. Off is always Off. In short, if you see pink it means that you are controlling the Zone Mutes. If you see Blue it means that you have any other MIDI CC/Destination in there. Regards, Fran
  6. Exactly. YouTube was the perfect metric to measure the Asshole number, the universal constant like the speed of light, that states that among a sufficient large population you have a constant "A" number of true assholes in it. It's universal and there's no escape to it. Even in Tatooine. In YouTube you get a 5 year old kid playing Mozart like Mozart himself and there will be a bunch of dislikes. The freaking 5 year old is giving an amazing performance and some dudes somewhere in their mom's basement that can't play two notes in a row decided to put the Doritos bag apart to click on the Dislike button. Well, there you have your A number. NOTE: There are temporary spikes in the measurement of the A number when a bunch of people are all behaving like assholes, but that's just temporary. Only the true assholes remain after a while. Fran
  7. PC4, SP6, PC4 SE and Forte SE have all the same 2 GB of factory samples and yes, that includes all the PC3-family samples including Kore64 plus a selection from the Forte samples. K2700 adds more samples from the Forte to that 2 GB base to basically have most (if not all) the Forte instruments with the exception that the large pianos are somewhat reduced in different ways but still pretty large. Fran
  8. The action is the same as the PC4 minus the aftertouch. Same keys, just no aftertouch strip. That makes it cheaper. Things like that or the lack of 2 GBs of user space make a noticeable difference in component costs that later get reflected in the whatever few hundred dollars difference between products. Regards, Fran
  9. Hi, Few clarifications: Anybody waiting for a 61 keys is probably going to be waiting for a very very long time. The 2 GB "new" base ROM that is in SP6, Forte SE, PC4, PC4SE and the lower 2 GB of K2700 has all the PC3-family base ROM + Kore64 + German Grand plus a nice subset of samples taken from the Forte times. The PC3 base ROM has lots from Kurzweil past (PC2/K2600/expansions) and I'm not sure if the strings bank was used before in its entirety or not (they are still great strings) but Kore64 samples are from 2012, the 2 guitars, drums, brasses... Forte samples are from 2014. Forte has lots of great new samples, the 2 big acoustic pianos, the 3 electric pianos that are amazing, clav, harpsichord, bells, and many more. K2700 has them all but the 2 big pianos that are in a reduced form (one of them is 1 GB) and perhaps some other minor things, but, in general, you can say that it has most of the Forte with somewhat reduced pianos. So, if the perception is that it's all 90's samples, that is incorrect. Also, synthesis keeps progressing. Having up to 8 FM layers in a program and being able to cascade them with VAST layer and adding our FXs is a MAJOR contribution to our soundware. The K2700 has a long number of pads and synths programs (LOTS of them!) that use FM layers that are amazing. Sometimes in the demos these programs get neglected because the demonstrator has limited time and has to go thru the meat and potatoes first, but, to me, the PADS are in a totally new level now. But, on the other hand, I'm glad we can still have old samples in those keyboards as well, because you can reproduce the sounds of that era really well and anybody in a Pink Floyd tribute band knows what I am talking about. And there will be more products to come and more samples to come, or at least we can hope, but, in the end, what really matters, is the music that you play with these instruments. PC4SE will fit very well with some people that don't really do program editing on the board but still want workstation functionality (sequencer is full). Others will want the big brother or the K2700 and their budget will direct them towards one or another. Regards, Fran
  10. Grey, so sorry to read this. May your daughter rest in peace. Fran
  11. Love the song, the sound, the arrangements, the 80's feel and will totally filter the lyrics as I've been always doing since the 80's (you grow that filter when you are born in a non-English speaking country and, even when you learn the language, you can still tune out the lyrics at your pleasure). Fran
  12. We'll look at the manual, thanks for the heads up. They load as Songs and you have 4096 IDs for user songs. Regards, Fran
  13. Hi, You can load MIDI files into the PC4. Just go to Storage Mode, select a .MID file from your thumb drive and load it. Then you go to Song Mode and you will see the Song in the user space. Regards, Fran
  14. Nailed it! Just because you can do crazy stuff doesn't mean you have to do crazy stuff. And with the K2700's 1500+ factory Programs and 700+ multis you can find sounds close enough to what you want that it's pretty easy to start from those. Regards, Fran
  15. That will still work on the K2700. While the K2700 is not improving that particular case with the ribbon, it has a major feature to trigger notes with the Pads. The Pads can be configured in MANY ways (read the manual to see all the possibilities), and one of the way is to trigger notes or chords. Having a complex chord programmed in each of the 16 pads could help you greatly in some parts of a show where you have to do a lot of things. The pads are velocity sensitive and they are easy to play so, they are very handy for that kind of stuff. But the pads can also trigger MIDI CCs or control the Step Sequencer or the CC Sequencers... even you could program them in multi mode to do things like this: Few pads control the Step Sequencer in one zone, other pads the CC Seq in another zone, other pads to trigger chords in other zones... in other words, you can set it exactly as your show requires. Regards, Fran
