  1. I am skeptical. This morning, the round-trip ping to a guitar player across town (7 mi) was 64-70 ms.
  2. This could be an entire topic/thread, and probably is somewhere. This is how I intend to handle this for a project. Our drummer uses Pro Tools. I use Reaper. All critiques are welcome. Create the source to a click track and send the click track on a separate track along with the source. Then the respondent would re-record the click track to its own track along with any tracks that were added to the original source. This would work with respondents that have either a DAW to record multiple channels (drums, stereo source) or only a 2-track recorder (horns, vox, etc.). Once the returned track or tracks are combined in the DAW (including the re-recorded click), regardless of the sample rate or even if it was an mp3 source, you should be able to stretch them from first click to last to synchronize them with the existing tracks. It is possible to add a click track to an existing recording. However, if the recording was not made to a click track, it will become quite evident how much the tempo varies over its duration. Adding the click to such a recording can be very tedious because the source must be adjusted to the click.
  3. Thanks for the link. Peter and the Wolf at 1:31:25 was right in Joey's wheelhouse.
  4. The stated AC power consumption spec' is a safety rating requirement used to calculate branch circuit loads and heating/cooling for building industry purposes. That said, here is what QSC says about the 1/8 power rating (emphasis mine): Also: So Reezekeys conclusion, " '1/8 power' must be QSC's determination of a workable 'average' real-world usage figure." appears to be on the money.
  5. I use a Ubiquity product, UAP-AC-M UniFi indoor/outdoor access point. However, I do not use it for at home. Rather, it is an access point connected to a X32 Rack for remote mixing control via Wi-Fi. For the house I use two Asus RT-AC66U routers in my house but I do not get the range that I need. So I am also looking for a new solution. Ubiquity makes many products. Most are for commercial uses but there is now a home Wi-Fi router and mesh solution called AmpliFi. The following link shows an overview of the AmpliFi system and has suggestions for various configurations. I am seriously looking at this one. Klonk
  6. This was one of my YT recommends. What's the meter? I'm guessing five. Gary Husband on epiano. Music starts at about 2:00 in... [video:youtube]
  7. Too much, too often and it leaks out of the hold-down bolts and onto whatever is below, the carpet, the cat, your shoes.
  8. The problem is routing latency. All our band members live in town. I pinged the guitarist - 56 ms, so assuming the bi-directional delays are the same, ~28 ms delay. So he and I would be like we were setup 28 feet apart. Social distancing?
  9. I have used a TC-Helicon Mic Mechanic 2 pedal live and with no complaints. The autotune amount can be adjusted from none to Cher. The pedal does other things too, though AFAIK they can all be set to have no effect. Regarding the bass amplifier, I presume you want a combo (size). How small? How loud? How $? All the 1x12" combos are roughly the same size and approx. 30 lb, The powers range from 25 W up to 800 W. I have considered replacing my current bass rig* with a GK MB112 (1x12" 200W) which I would probably try to buy used. Check Sweetwater Bass Guitar Combo Amps for ideas. Check talkbass.com for reviews. * Markbass LM2 450W into a fEarful 12/6 cabinet.
  10. I use a DXR10. It also carries LH bass and an iPad signal used for a click/rhythm track when we practice w/o our Drumbo.
  11. You're assuming that they're coming in through the front door. if they gain access to the underlying password file, they can brute force crack as fast as their computing hardware will run.Every algorithm can be cracked but depending on the algorithm, it might take a really long time, like millions of years using a supercomputer for AES-256. However, as computing power increases...
  12. They would have to get your master password, which is not stored anywhere, though two-factor authentication should protect against this event. I have at least a dozen user names and over two hundred long, random looking passwords. If I didn't have a PW manager I might store them in an encrypted spreadsheet, decrypt, copy and paste every time I want to log in somewhere, (I guess that is a PW manager of a sort). I suppose at some point it boils down to a level of trust and I acknowledge that most people are not comfortable with a centralized anything WRT their passwords.. I've looked the encryption model for the manager I use and am okay with it. If it didn't auto-fill user names and passwords for sites I frequent (even this one !), I would probably hunt for something else.
  13. Rather, an AES-256 encrypted bundle of your sensible informations is sent over the internet... Edit: (am a LastPass user) In the case of LastPass it is AES-256. Don't know about the others.
  14. I've had both. I sold the T & F but still have the vent. I dislike and don't use the overdrive on either. I suppose it's a question of what you want the overdrive to sound like, but for me, they're both too buzzy and the onset of the overdrive/distortion effect is too abrupt. That is, a slight increase in volume above the overdrive threshold creates a large change in the overdrive effect. I want something more subtle. Of the two, I suppose I'd give a nod to the vent.
  15. I don't know how much is archived but there might be something here: https://web.archive.org/web/*/keyboardmag.com
  16. What are some of the other things in that garage?
  17. I think this could be mitigated somewhat if each node were synchronized to a distributed time reference and the players sync'd to a locally generated click track rather than to the audio from others. There are protocols that provide a distributed synchronized clock to network nodes to very high accuracy (e.g. EtherCAT, PTP). These are all on a common LAN however. Over the public internet, NTP may be good enough to get ms accuracy if the time server was part of the mesh rather than an NTP global server. I have no idea whether these applications implement this.
  18. Thinking about this brake thing brought some memories back. In 1998, I worked with Bob Schleicher to develop his Leslie SSR. One function he wanted was a "no brake" option. He said some organists wanted a stop function but with no brake; when switched to stop, the drum would coast until it stopped on its own. I think it might have been gospel players, which was perhaps a sizeable part of his market. I suspect that usually this would be done by pulling the power on the chorale motors. Of course, you get no Chorale when you do that. Bob's SSRs used a common software for all versions of Leslie that his switch supported. When the uC booted up, one of the first things it did was to use the internal ADC to measure the voltage across a resistive divider that told the software what flavor of Leslie it was installed in: 122, 122 w/no brake, 147, or 147 w/nobrake. I saw some of the relays he built that had a toggle switch on top to turn the brake feature on or off. As far as I know, those capabilities are still in the relay that Trek II sells, though whether Trek II has made functional changes to the software, I don't know.
  19. I had been attempting to get registered for Florida's unemployment benefits since last Wednesday. Multiple attempts, clearing cookies, four PIN resets, much frustration. The web site was slammed and I kept getting resets. Today however, I woke up at 4 AM and successfully registered. It went comparatively quickly (only one reset). The forms on that site need some more testing by naive users, but the main problem was the overload.
  20. It's not really a question of necessity, I suppose a person could work with anything, I was just curious. I've added the stop function to a few 6H consoles using both three-way and two-way half-moon hand switches. Of course, the switch you desire was not, and as far as I know, is not available.
  21. Why the button rather than the 3-way center off?
  22. Well, it is in one of the Real Books. I suppose if JC had worked his magic on I Got Rhythm it would have sounded great, but alas, would not have had as much popular notice.
  23. Apologies if a repost... [video:youtube]
  24. The correct pitch can be quantified, but is that with just or equal temperament? Stretch tuning? I was once took part in a study whose aim was to measure pitch perception in a group of amateur musicians. It was probably fifty years ago but IIRC the results were a bell curve around each pitch. As I have aged, my pitch perception of bass pitches has changed. If a single note is played, I perceive it as flatter than it actually is until another note is played along with it. Then it's, "Oh. Yeah that does sound right." Actually, I may have perceived them this way all along. It is only within the last few years that I noticed it. Regarding JC's singing, The ones I have heard sounded okay to my ear, except maybe the one with Take 6. Except for that one, they have all been either post-produced or are using some live processing, including harmonization.
