  1. Interesting, I saw Nile Rodgers and Chic the other week doing a set list of stuff Nile co wrote and produced. Monster bass player, moved my chest with the bass, but pristine sound. Zero tinnitus the next day. But in Aus we have max allowable dB levels. In no way do these spoil the live experience.
  2. I kinda had an issue with bands playing with tracks until I heard Van Halen live with keys on a track. Finally keys that were in time and in tune, who woulda thunk that could eva happen?
  3. Well during lockdown me mates gathered at mine and with various forms of lubricants and worked through my live concert DVDs with surround sound turned up to 11. Stop making sense was everyone's fav. With lockdown a thing of the past they are still pestering me about when are we gonna gather and watch this again.
  4. Suggesting a keyboard player should have pursued a career as a plumber is fair, balanced, and justifiable criticism? MPN has sure moved on while I was not logging in.
  5. my next question is, who's gonna tell him, so he can stop this "entertaining" nonsense get on with his plumbing career? This should be a sticky here, no posts about about keyboard playing plumbers, how about it mods? The keyboard forum all chops , a no entertainment zone.
  6. Yep and touring, friends in Hamburg seeing them in November.
  7. Not often I have to consider whether I would rather play keys or guitar. This track, were I to be in a band with a singer who could do this justice, makes me wonder
  8. Late to the party, OK if I bring my Behringer KD900 FX ? Sounds as glood underwater as it does above.
  9. Cant wait for the mods here to step in and ban any post that mentions Lachy Doley
  10. Interesting topic. I get a bloods MBA plus extras done every 6 months, roughly January and July (winter down under). So last January my Doc sends me off for skin cancer scan and get some pre cancer squamous cells burnt off both ears. Catch a few less rays to let that heal. July test, your vitamin D is low, start taking a daily or weekly dose. I do, mostly. Now the sun is heading back this way, I get more sun with my morning coffee. I still take the vitamin D when I remember, safe in the knowledge, I think, that the body absorbs what it needs and pisses away the excess. No chance of od'ing on Vitamin D then. And to be very clear, my Doc did NOT say it would reduce my risk of cancer or heart disease. As for cognitive decline she said said the impact of the '70s is irreversible, get outta here boomer.
  11. Hi Darren, Sounds excellent, few here would know of James past or present profile, but all good that two uniquely talented guys are playing together. Dont recall getting an email about this gig. Might want to check I am still on your list. Cheers Mark
  12. As a keyboard player my first guitar was an electric handed on to me a school friend. The action was, I now know to be, so high as to make bar chords unplayable. At that time I played keys in a band with a drummer who was the son of musical royalty down under. The drummers father had lent our guitar player a Strat. Probably a '62 almost unobtainium down under at that time. I picked it up during a break and wow was it so easy to play. I felt like Jimi Hendrix and I were bruddas from different muddas (joke) Today I have V series reissue Strat but my everday player is a Heritage version of a Les Paul. Shorter scale length, less stretch.
  13. When the gig pays $100 per person Behringer is your friend.
  14. I suspect the $1.4 billion has all to do with Avid's revenue from their systems that run TV broadcasters and Protools is a side show. During lock down in 2020 I got to spend some time with a contractor who was setting up Avid sourced stuff for new studios for one of our National broadcasters. When you are embedded in a mission critical situation like that it is rivers of gold for life.
  15. Ten years ago an external DAC did help take the load off less resource rich laptops. On a couple of occasions using my 6 year old machine have forgotten to take the Scarlett and used headphone out. No noticeable difference even on patches with 4 splits each with resource hog AU's. But I did miss the big knob that sits on top of my controller.
  16. All valid points, but I am an old analog guy in a digital world, and when I want to pump the volume before say a solo, from 4 at sound check to 6 because the sound guy is not paying attention, the increase in db from the interface gives more immediate impact than reaching for an encoder mapped to volume in Mainstage. And I know the sound guys you play with are vastly more professional than the deaf ones I play with, and thats on a good night.
  17. An additional easy to access volume knob is crucial in my experience playing lo rent gigs. I use a Scarlett Audio interface with a big knob.
  18. Dave, I have played a fremium game for free for 10 years now. Not given them a cent in all that time. But I do click on the ads, sourced from Google no doubt, which gives some, but not much of in game rewards, 5 each day, The ads are often irrelevant, annoying or simply a rip off, but that is the price I pay to not give them any money. I would happly click on 5 totally irrelevant online gambling ads each time I log in here in here to keep the forum alive. 5 minutes of my leisure time per day with volume at zero is not a biggie.
  19. Ace would be Acetone, now known as Roland, what I shoulda bought instead of a Farfisa Fast 4 back in tha day.
  20. Yeah well, I tried doing keys only in a cover band with one other lead guitarist. The energy got sucked out of the song. So I reverted tp playing rhythm guitar. Guess what? the millienials were back on the dance floor playing air guitar. Who are we trying to please? No disrespect to Billy playing under the 3 other monster guitarists in Lynryd Syknyrd. Just the way it is. Want to soar? Free Bird, after your keys solo switch to your Les Paul, play rhythm and let the wannabe lead guitar hero in the band rip.
  21. Well clicked on the link and the only option is to contribute $32 per month 4eva. Like to contribute but that is above my pay grade. Will reconsider when other options, like a one off payment are available. Lets put this in perspective, the NY Times costs me $10 a month, for content created by paid journalist's, not mug punters like me with whom most readers would disagree.
