  1. Well I didn't want to pitch in to this topic in case someone mentioned a silver bullet that actually did what you wanted. Having explored most plug-ins to make my imperfect pitch recognition perfect I ended up working out that doing it by ear is quicker than fixing up the midi output of any currently available audio to midi tool.
  2. Has HS ever used sysex for drawbars? (I know Roland has.) In the case of SK Pro, the drawbars are not the issue, they send CC, it's the percussion and CV controls that only send sysex. And it's not because they needed the CCs for other things, because there are still enough unused CCs that they could have spared one for percussion and one for CV. In fact, they only use 27 of the 128 available CCs, which makes me really wish they had used standard CCs for their front panel mono synth controls, as well. If someone finds both of them equally sonically satisfying, the edge might go to the hardware implementation just for the playability aspect. B-3X can't give you the SK Pro's multi-contact key response, and latency is never a concern for the hardware. Been a while since I last wrestled with the XK3 as I use B5 and it auto maps. Both our references to sysex are wrong, the correct answer is the XK-3 drawbars (and SK, but not XK5) send out only three CC message numbers: #80 for all the upper drawbars, #81 for all the lower drawbars and #82 for the two pedal drawbars. CV and percussion are also CC , never had an issue mapping these manually even with VB3 1.4 or B4.
  3. The reason HS used sysex for drawbars was to leave remaining CC's available for all other control's. Its not rocket science for IK to set up the correct mapping for XK3 and SK sysex drawbars. B5 and Logic's Vintage B3 have this option available straight out off the box. Maybe IK are holding it back as a paid upgrade option.
  4. Well my days of going to a live Stones concert are over, no drummer can ever replace Charlie in reminding Keef or Ronnie where 1 is.
  5. Dave, bought an 8 track ampeg back in the day that came with a live off the desk tape of a recording of funeral for friend on it that I would love to recreate. But that aint gonna happen unless an EJ trubute band comes my way. There are many symphonic style songs that deserve recreation from the 60's and 70's but chicks today ain't into them so game over.
  6. I switched from Cantabile to MainStage after corresponding with Brad about offering the GUI features available in MaInStage and Brad decided thats not the direction he wanted Cantibile Performer to go. Gig Performer is eating Cantabile's lunch in terms offering the best GUI and functionality on Windows. On MacOS different story. And as to previous poster suggesting Australia is a small country well no, maybe you are confusing us with Austria. We are the same size as the US, we just have fewer people.
  7. Well, I started using an outboard interface because I had a noisy headphone output on my Dell Windows laptop. When I switched to a MacOS laptop using MainStage I kept using it. Later I upgraded to a Focusrite low cost interface. On the odd occasion I forgot to bring the Focusrite to a gig I used the headphone audio outs with a DI. It sounded a little "dull" to my ears compared to the Focusrite, but no one else noticed. The main benefit of an outboard interface as far as I can tell is it shifts the audio processing load off the CPU to the outboard DAC and may give a more transparent sound. For me having big round analog knob to grab on to to micro tune where I sit in the mix is the main advantage of an audio interface.
  8. What did I say about Cantabile is incorrect? Do they not have a free version? Do they not charge more than $39 for their full version? Do they not offer a different feature set/workflow than the other options? I believe those were the only things I said about it, and I have no idea what you're disagreeing with. Really, you visted Cantabiles website and can't tell the difference, with all your experience using these live? Lets end the convo on this note [video:youtube]

  10. Well if you actually owned any version of Cantabile you would get my drift. But hey why bother anyone else with the differences. You as always, based on your extensive experience with Cantabile are correct. No "fake news" here.
  11. Been there, done that, subscription model for updates, we are taking here about about a $39 entry point, does Brad offer that? See sig. The question was only whether Mainstage alternatives exist for Windows. What they offer at what price is a different question. But since you bring it up, comparing price alone disregards the important factors of features and workflow. The cheapest solution isn't always the best for your needs (which is why some people will still pay more than the $30 price of Mainstage to get Camelot Pro or Gig Performer on Mac). Besides that, here you are comparing a $39 special offer of what is normally a pricier program to Cantabile, which yes is pricier, but OTOH, also offers a free version, which GP does not. And this $39 special--as great as it is!--still should be recognized as being for a version that will soon be superseded, apparently without upgrade path. Well I speak as an owner of Cantabile Performer which is my opinion is the only version of Cantabile that offers anything close to the functionality of MainStage or Gig Performer. But warning to all readers of this, Anotherscott owns all versions of GigPerformer, Cantabile and MainStage, luvs laptops for live performance, and speaks from the experience gained from many years of live performance withh all of these, and is a person whom you should trust and believe and never be contradicted. See sig.

  13. If you are a MacOS user Mainstage which includes all the Logic AU's is a no brainer first choice. However for Window's there is no MainStage alternative so Gig Performer at this price is a no brainer for Windows even with the limitations.
  14. Well if as you say from extensive experience all laptops crap out on everyone mid gig then why ask? But as the sole exception who has used a laptop on many gigs and not had it crap out in eight years you could try running B5 using a " plasticky " Hammond XK3c as a controller. Never going to measure up to your idea of the real deal though.
  15. B4 was the first Hammond VST i purchased. But it was a resource hog. I then moved on to B3 1.4 and life was good. I own NI Vintage Organs, a later incarnation of B4. But B5 is now my goto Hammond virtual instrument, it works fine as does VB3. So why stress over NI's on again off again support of a Hammond emulation when their are plenty of much better alterantives?
  16. It may depend upon which vaccine you get. The Pfizer vaccine has been shown to be 97% effective against asymptomatic spread. https://khn.org/morning-breakout/pfizer-shot-shown-to-be-extremely-effective-against-asymptomatic-covid/#:~:text=Mar%2012%202021-,Pfizer%20Shot%20Shown%20To%20Be%20Extremely%20Effective%20Against%20Asymptomatic%20Covid,according%20to%20real%2Dworld%20data. That's pretty good. Don't know whether the others can match it or not. Cases in Oregon have been rising dramatically recently. Governor Kate is gonna whack us pretty good sometime this week - just as restaurants and clubs have finally been able to get their heads above water. Ugh. According to data from NSW Health"s weekly COVID-19 surveillance report, between April 10 and May 1, six people in quarantine who reported being fully vaccinated were among the 150 overseas cases recorded. One had received a one-shot vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson, and the remaining cases had received both doses of a two-shot vaccine, such as Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Moderna. Well seems we are getting closer to the answer here. Seems those who have been vaccinated can still be asymptomatic carriers and present a risk to those who have not been vaccinated. Not sure what the value is of a vaccination passport.
  17. I have used both Audacity and MuseScore 4 eva on Windows. Found both to be excellent at doing what they claim on the tin. Are there better for profit apps? Sure, but as an amateur they do everything I need. This seems like a marriage made in heaven.
  18. Well having recovered from the recent MS Exchange server breach we put in place some additional authentication steps to slow down and frustrate whatever comes next. But now the black hats have worked out how to circumvent the admin PW requirement, and the FBI are using this back door to kill web shells in unpatched US resident MS Mail servers I now work on the assumption that all my bases be someone elses.
  19. Well having chatted with Lachy pre covid I trust the Rogers Waters tour sets Lachy up with many years of house payments and the rig he would really rather be playing. The injustice of rank amateurs like me being able to afford whatever we choose because of our day jobs, and the gifted and talented players like Lachy having to make do with less than they would like just don't seem fair.
  20. As you point out we are on a steep learning curve. Here it was announced today that the Pfizer vaccine is OK in fridge freezer levels for up to 14 days - not the minus 70c previously reported. I am eligible for the AZ jab but living in a community where there is zero local transmission I am holding off for the moment. Yesterday Aus entered into a travel bubble with NZ. No need for 14 day hotel quarantine at your expense on arrival in each country. Today NZ reports a fully vaccinated airport worker tested positive. They worked in an area of the airport that handled returning NZ citizens from outside the bubble. Now we get to the next step in understanding what vaccination means. Seems that it eliminates the chance of death, minimises the impact of Covid whilst infected, but does it eliminate the chance of infecting others?
  21. Been playing guitar since I was 14. I only play rhythm guitar in a band, there is no shortage of supply of lead guitar heroes. What I have learnt from playing rhythm guitar and translated to keys is that I am there for the song, the only time the audience is aware of my contribution as a rhythm guitar player is when I stop playing, most often hecause I have dropped my pick. Thats a Highway to Hell.
  22. Hey Maurizo, your contribution with this is what makes MPN a special and unique place in the internet universe. Due to lack of time I cannot participate as a beta tester, I expect the AU's I choose to use to include this feature, but what you have started here adds to the body of knowledge. Hope folks like Tusker will pick it up and run with it.
  23. Amazing, an undiscovered feature that has been the default on the ancient Win 10, and prehistoric, Win 7 and the irrelevent MacOS versions finally finds acceptance now its available as an APP. Can't wait for your next reveal. Nothing to do with acceptance m8...just saying I like it being set that way. No need for smart-arse comments. Interesting. I do not use VB i use another program that does not do that. So yours and chazkeys comments are really quite ignorant of the fact the someone might NOT be using an app/program you are. Non-flummoxed PS: (note it actually has two M's) Well thats way VB1.4 worked for me out of the box in 2012. But more than happy to be called called a "smart arse" by a newby VB3 user who is a member of the advisory board here. Go for it, you should not have to put up with anyone dissing you 'round here. Maybe you should suggest an "unlike" option so smart arses can be put in their place.
  24. Belated Happy Birthday Dave, good to know you have had the jab and are now good for another 60.
