  1. Really looking forward to the Lightning/Leafs game tonight. I feel like Tampa should have won the last two games but just didn't and now they're on the brink of elimination. Both teams are just chock full of talent. Any series that can cause Matthews and Stamkos to fight has got to be testy. First time ever two 60+ goal scorers have ever dropped the gloves with each other.
  2. 4 years ago, but one of my favorite hockey players to watch. So sad when he was traded to Vancouver.
  3. I haven't played the Take5 but I can't imagine it being on par with the Hydrasynth in terms of features, like not even close. Hard to even compare them. Ribbon, poly at, unlimited mods, more voices, 3xosc, osc mutants, two filters with multiple filter models, effects, number of env and lfo, macros...Literally 1000s of possibilities that the Take5 can't even take a stab at. Now, the Take5 may sound great, and I've found that ALL DSI/Sequential products do, but that's really a different discussion. Hydra will make a lot of programs you can't even start with on the Take5. If you just want a simple easy to program synth that only covers the basic synth sounds live, then the T5 might actually be better for you, but you're really paying for analog, not features in that case. The only ground exclusively owned by the T5 is the sequencer. The Hydra has a step LFO which can be used as a sequencer, but it's way harder to use than the typical step sequencer.
  4. The math only explains a small part of it. Last week an NHL player got 75 stitches in his face from a goalie's skate and returned to the game.
  5. Got the call from SweetH20, Stage4 HA 73 enroute. My studio is becoming a bit of a hoarders paradise. Need to sell some stuff. Anyone interested in a NS388?
  6. I've never played the Montage, but I have 3 TP40 fatar keyboards and the Nord is in the middle in terms of weight of all 3. Forte 7 is I think the lightest, and the SL88 grand is the heaviest.
  7. I'm in a bracket challenge and this first round has been pretty epic. Toronto had an amazing comeback against Tampa Bay yesterday. None of the first round series have been sweeps. Sometimes it's like totally different teams show up for the playoffs. I saw a stat yesterday, quoted during an NBA game, that only 2 NBA players had played in all 82 games of this season. In the NHL over 160 players played all 82 games.
  8. I bought some patch banks from him and they were all eerily spot on for the songs. He seems to have a pretty wide set of skills. The patch bank I bought from him had a lot of Rush patches in it. Artistically pretty far away from the OP's youtube. His musical vocab is huge.
  9. Maybe I'm confused here, I thought it was an app only and not usable through a browser. I'll check, but the app doesn't show up in the app store for all devices.
  10. After a second listen, it appears the Point of Know Return performance is the same as the 2FTS recording except that on 2FTS it's inexplicably sped up to put it a half step higher. (CORRECTION: the bootleg is a halfstep low, 2FTS appears to be right on key. Maybe that's why I thought the tempo's were a little slow for a live Kansas performance!) I would also bet that the beginning of Magnum Opus is the same performance except that 2FTS has some either post processing or overdubs.
  11. Sadly Moises is not available for intel based Macs. I purchased it on Apple Silicon and then tried to download it on my Intel based MBP and ... It's not in the app store for Intel based Macs. Beware.
  12. I'm a huge Kansas fan. Played many years in a Kansas tribute (that I'd love to reform if I can just find a violin player interested in Phoenix). I thought I'd heard every live recording they'd ever done when suddenly, posted just a few days ago on youtube is this entire concert from 1978, recorded directly from the board and mixed down in stereo that I'd never heard any of before. It's brand spankin new and only 300 or so have viewed it so far. To put you in perspective: In 1978 Kansas was arguably the biggest touring act in North America and was doing stadiums with as many as 80,000. Steve Walsh's voice was still at it's unbelievable peak and they were still showing the unreal tightness of 6 dudes who'd basically lived in the same house for the last 8 years. This is the Point of Know Return Tour, coming off of their 1976 breakout with Leftoverture and the incredibly popular Carry On Wayward Son. I realize Kansas is not everyone's cup of tea, but if you're a keyboard player (or really any kind of serious musician), there's some amazing stuff in here. A lot of it closely mirrors the arrangements in the live Two For the Show album and may have been recorded as candidates for that record. I dont' think they had any programmable synths on stage and I know Kerry used to have a headphones on stage to reprogram his mini moog between songs. Referencing the other current thread about tempo: they remain remarkably on speed for a lot of these songs even though they had a tendency to play things at ludicrous speed during live performance.
  13. I always laugh when, in rehearsal, someone complains that we were playing too slow. Like that will ever happen in the performance! I do one of my bands with a click and there certain times it's just painful to play the song that slow when you're ready to rip.
  14. If you haven't got a gig scheduled, you'll never be ready for the gig. Just schedule it and let the deadline motivate you. This is true for many things. Stuff that is on my calendar generally gets done, stuff that is waiting until it's ready to get on the calendar does not get done.
  15. I'd played this song on guitar a zillion times and a ton of cover bands do it. I knew there was some keyboards on it, but when I got a chance to do it in a band where I was on keyboards I found this. I was actually kind of dumbfounded what was behind the chorus, but once you hear it isolated you can totally pick it out of the song: (I started the track at 1:25 because there is a lot of silence during the verses)
  16. Page 59. This is for the other 2 footswitch jacks, not the Nord triple pedal. 6 - FOOT SWITCH TYPE The Foot Switch jack on the Nord Stage 4 accepts a variety of different pedals, with either one or two buttons/switches. Set the Type parameter according to the connected model. If you are unsure of the polarity of the pedal, simply check whether the chosen functionality works as expected, if not select the other polarity (Open or Closed). Range: Single Open, Single Closed, Dual Open, Dual Closed FUNC 1 The Func 1 parameter determines the function of an attached single pedal, or the first switch of a dual pedal. Range: User Assigned, Layer Scene II, Pump, Mst Clk Tap, Synth Vibrato, Program Up, Program Down, Rotor Hold, Rotor Toggle FUNC 2 The Func 1 parameter determines the function of the second switch of a dual pedal and has no effect when a single pedal is connected.
  17. I saw that ARW tour and loved it. There was supposed to be a record coming out of that time and for some reason it just didn't happen.
  18. I'm pretty sure it is. They wanted to demo the triple pedal and show that the individual pedals themselves are re-assignable. But I'm near certain that the other pedal jacks can be used for that purpose.
  19. Musically, this is a vast improvement over their more recent offerings. I could barely listen to Fly From Here. But there is something completely uninspiring about the dead delivery of Jon Davison. Somehow, Jon Anderson could sing completely ludicrous lines like, "We see the total mass retain" and somehow put some emotion into it. Not to mention how, even now, listening to "Soon" almost brings tears to the eye. I just get the vibe the Davison doesn't believe in what he's singing.
  20. How would you compare the NS2EX->NS3->NS4? I think there's a bigger jump in capability on the last transition than the previous one. I bought the NS3 when it first came out and I clearly remember many of these same arguments being made about expense, not really that much of an improvement etc.
  21. I'll engage on this. It's 50% more synth layers and an improved synth. That was one of the limitations I frequently ran into with the NS3 was needing one more synth layer/split instead of a whole new patch. Drawbars were a major deal for me and I always carry around DBS-1 drawbars for that exact reason. This will replace and improve on those. NS4 effects section is a QUANTUM leap forward. Double the number and type of effects and 4 times the layers of effects. The NS3 effects section was it's biggest weakness. They did say that there's new samples that are specific to the stage 4 but we won't know how much of an improvement that is until we get them. Having a 73 key version with the full-up hammer action keyboard is a major plus for me. Ask yourself this: Was the NS2EX->NS3 transition a bigger improvement in capability? I don't think so.
  22. NS3 88 has been my main gigging board for a couple years now. I have 3 different TP40 boards in the house and they all feel slightly different. That being said, after a very short adjustment period, I have zero problems with the NS3 88 keybed. I probably prefer the Forte a bit more but the difference is not material to my playing.
  23. I plugged the current NS4 88 price into an inflation calculator and backed it up 6 years to when the NS3 came and and Voila: They're basically the same price when you take inflation into account. yes...it was still expensive 6 years ago and it's still expensive now, but some of that is completely because the last two years inflation has been higher than you think it has.
  24. While not really that dark, and actually really popular, another band you might listen too is Metric. Their stuff is really stripped down and simple 80s ish synthwave production, mixed with some really good songwriting. While there is some guitar, it's really sparse and simple to play. Their earlier stuff is really simple. Try this as one of their darker tones: The first three of this album taken as a single piece is really excellent IMHO.
