Got a motel room one city block (5 minute walk) to the beach. My sister in law is a travel agent and she got us a several hundred dollars a night room for seventy bucks a night. Of course it was a radical change from the 110*F heat here in the desert. Anyways the gals did swims in the ocean both days. I did stick my feet in on day one. But never got around to getting in a bathing suit and jumping in. The waves were 2 feet and sloppy, and there were at least 4 people vying for waves in each breaking area (beach break with a few shelves here and there).
It was over a hundred fifty steps down to the beach and then back up to street level which was some good leg exercise.
I was basically the driver to and from wherever we went including back and forth to the Sonoran desert. Traffic was relatively light wherever we went. I spent a lot of time in North County (San Diego County) back in the late 70's and early 80's. I did always have a wet-suit and surf board with me back when I was a regular in the 70's/80's, however I would not have paddled out in that slop and have to fight the youngsters for a 3 second ride. However it was nice to smell the salt air and we walked for miles on the beach back and forth. We did go to one restaurant there, but they wanted 45 bucks for a small steak or fish dinner, I passed on that and got a salad, and some french fries.
Truth be told I was super happy to see the welcome to Arizona sign on the bridge over the Colorado river on Interstate 8
