  1. I can’t say I’m a big fan of Damon’s- either in Blur or Gorillaz- but there’s enough killer tunes in his discography that I have great respect for his work. Both bands have songs I’d consider essential listening for their time, and I have a few albums by each. Some of my personal favorites:
  2. Man, have they fallen since Jeff took over! I know lots of happy Carvin owners, and one thing they all pointed out was the quality of the customer service. But since Carvin became Kiesel, there’s been a steady stream of people complaining about how they were treated by CustServ. Some have even named certain personnel in particular as being unprofessional. I’m sorry you’ve had this experience. When I bought my first 2 electrics, I went with Dean. One was a Special Select EVO (a mid-level LP clone) and the other was a Time Capsule Cadillac (expensive limited edition). Like you, one of the ones they sent the wrong one- the Caddy. But instead of holding mine hostage like in your situation, Dean delivered the correct guitar via personal delivery by the regional sales rep. (They even offered me a discount on the incorrect Caddy, but there was no way I could afford it.)
  3. Another song was released from the new Hives album. At this point, it’s clear their hiatus has NOT changed them.
  4. I like PRS & Opeth. I almost bought a PRS as my first electric, but I didn’t understand the used market back then.😕 And I’ve actually gotten my 77yo mom enjoying some Opeth as well. Mostly the more prog stuff without the death growls, as one might expect. For example:
  5. I suppose- given the nature of this thread- I should have provided videos to compare. As I recall, ”Revenge” was the first single from Ministry’s first album. Compared to “Jesus Built My Hotrod”, the first single from Psalm 69, featuring Butthole Surfers’ Gibby Haynes on vocals.
  6. The Scorpions “Still Loving You” is still one of my all-time favorite songs to sing when my love life is bringing me down. And let’s not forget Uli Jon Roth, shown here laying down one of the better opening riffs in early hard rock/classic metal…and knowing full well he’s done so. (FWIW, “Sails of Charon” is another fun singalong song for me.) And if you look at performances decades later (even after the one posted below), UJR is still playing that song with casual brilliance and awareness of how tasty those licks are.* * how tasty? Let’s just say it’s one of the few songs Yngwie Malmsteen has covered in concert, and he plays it relatively straight up.
  7. I was just reading that Al Jourgenson is planning on winding down Ministry in 1-2 more albums, and that one may include reworked tracks from OR be a complete re-imagining of Ministry’s first album. For those unaware, Ministy’s first album was a minor synthpop hit, but was so at odds with AJ’s inner musician that he burned the masters at a BBQ and hasn’t listened to or played any of the songs in 40 years. if you’ve ever heard subsequent Ministry albums that pioneered industrial rock, you’d see how radically different they were. What changed? Well, not his opinion of the final product. Rather, he was taken to a show where a band did ONLY covers of that album. He saw that there was something to the songs that people liked. So he’s considering redoing those songs in his more characteristic style.
  8. Hadn’t realized Knobs was gone- haven’t been looking lately.
  9. Ok, Teh Interwebz et my post… Cor-Tek have announced that, not only have they acquired the rights to DOD & Digitech pedals, etc., they’re actually rehiring the people behind several of their most highly regarded products. Not exactly cool new pedals, but rather, the promise of things to come!
  10. Took a stab at doing a Philly Cheesesteak casserole. It came out pretty good, but there’s definitely room for improvement. Bonus: the meat/cheese/mushroom/onion/garlic mix would probably also make a good stuffing for larger mild peppers, like poblanos, Anaheims, and the trusty bell pepper. https://imgur.com/gallery/ILyEnhD
  11. Here’s Austin TV. To my ears, they’re somewhere between Alarmist and Elephant Gym. Visually, they’re between Los Straitjackets, Slipknot, and Heilung.
  12. I’m an omnivore. I could probably go vegetarian for any arbitrary amount of time- I sometimes go meatless for days or weeks- but I could never go vegan. Too much love for honey, eggs & dairy.
  13. Klangphonics is a trio that plays various techno styles in typical and atypical ways. Here’s their channel: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UC3_9M27BalxsXuRyfKvPiEA Here’s a few shorts illustrating the latter:
  14. I’m getting Grand Galactic Inquisitor vibes…
  15. I strongly suspect that the musicians who use this pedal with a guitar are multi-instrumentalists who are ALSO using it with some kind of synth rig
  16. It’s not the usual fare for this board, BUT I know of (not as good) demos using guitars on these:
  17. Speak for yourself!😜
  18. Count me as another thinking it’s a color code. The EF261S AN has an “antique” finish, and the EF261S BK is black.
  19. Re: coil splitting Rio Grande is the first (but not only) pickup company I know of that has been selling a line of humbuckers that are actually a pair of their singlecoils in a humbucker housing, wired to act like a humbucker. Which means that when coil splitting is enabled, you get the exact sound of one of their singlecoil pickups. RG has at least 2 such humbuckers in their product line: one using a pair of particular Strat-style singlecoils, and another using a pair of their SC-sized P90s.
  20. Catalinbread just unleashed this:
  21. BTW, in the interests of absolute clarity & honesty, I don’t see anything wrong with buying a guitar basedrimarily or sometimes EXCLUSIVELY on its visual aesthetics. I just try not to if the price has been boosted too much because it’s someone’s signature guitar or some such. For instance, I own a Fernandes Ravelle* Goldtop with the classic Seymour Duncan Jb/Jazz humbucker pairing. It was once owned by a buddy of Reeves Gabrels. The price wasn’t inflated by that last fact. Years after I bought it, Fernandes released a limited run of guitars featuring a finish by Japanese artist SHIN. The Ravelles in that run were functionally identical to the Goldtop. I REALLY wanted one, but never pulled the trigger. The markup on them was relatively small as compared to the non-SHIN versions; I just never had the cash before my favorite design sold out.** * Essentially a LP homage with a different body shape. ** repeating my history with the brand. Back in 2003 or so, I passed on buying a Star Wars themed Stratclone because I didn’t know the brand. Before I figured them out, they were sold out. They’re a bit pricier on the used market these days.
  22. I just noticed: that comes with a case! And it’s practically the favorite finish for Ace Frehley.
  23. I actually own a Roundhouse from back when it was shaped even MORE like a LP. Great brand, too. Got 5. L-R: Rick Vito sig (hardtail); Roundhouse (original version); Manta Ray 390 LE; Flatroc 15th Anniversary LE; Sensei RA As noted, there’s a lot of companies making LP clones (and copies of other classic guitar designs), so it’s really easy to find one that suits you. Some even streeeeetch the definition of LP into 25” or longer scale lengths, tremolo bridges, and other things absent from the originals. If I wanted a very Gibsony LP made in America, I’d probably look at Heritage. If I were looking at something more affordable and still true to the visual aesthetic, I’d look at Japanese companies like Navigator, FGN, Tokai, and so forth. Then you get into brands like Carvin/Keisel, Agile, Reverend, Godin…I could go on and on. And of course, there’s guitars that emulate the LP tone without being all that close to the visual aesthetics. IOW, there’s never been a better time to shop for an LP type guitar than right now! So what are you looking for in your LP?
  24. To be clear, I have nothing against Epiphone. I’d probably buy one of their Dots, SGs or some such. But so far, of the 5 LP-style guitars I own, none is a Gibson or Epi*, and only one was over $1000 new (most of my guitars were purchased used). And maybe it’s just me, but I’m not seeing the value here. Barry Slipher, is there something besides the aesthetics that is drawing you to this particular guitar? * and for the record, none of my “Strats” or “Telecasters” were made by Fender or Squier
