  1. I’m a big fan of Adrian Belew’s work, and have heard (and purchased) a HUGE chunk of the music he’s played. But somehow, I managed to never hear a single note of his work with The Bears. Fortunately, in a recent interview, he mentioned that as being one of his favorite projects. The journalist understood Belew’s lament that The Bears were under-appreciated, and attached a video of a whole concert.
  2. I’m not a pro by any stretch of the imagination. I’ve never performed with a guitar in font of any audience beyond my instructors, my dogs or some people way on the other side of a square with other things occupying their attention. And I have A LOT of gear, covering a wide variety of potential sounds. And in terms of pedals, I have both discrete pedals and multi effects units. I have all that stuff because guitar is an artistic outlet for me, and I can afford it. So I can explore surf guitar, metal, classic rock, jazz, and whatever strikes my fancy.
  3. Nice score! I don’t have one (yet) but I know those are pretty nice. Enjoy it!
  4. I can’t point to any names in particular, but the guitarists who show up in videos from Coffee & Riffs or the The Vigeland Mausoleum shows (and their acolytes) would be among MY primary suspects for diving into this stuff without regard for their personal safety. Then there’s guys like Helios Creed whose lifeblood is manipulating their sound in unexpected ways through labyrinthine signal chains.
  5. I’m mostly OK with cheap gear as long as; 1) it’s not counterfeit or stolen 2) it does what it says it does 3) it’s well-made enough to be suitable for the intended purpose. And make no mistake: decent, gig-worthy gear is probably cheaper now (relatively speaking) than ever before.
  6. I’ve seen those on Reverb, plus a couple others they make. You know anything about them?
  7. I’ve had Rick Toone’s site bookmarked for YEARS! Always full of incredible, drool-worthy content, but a lot of it is pricey and niche. THIS, OTOH, might be big.
  8. I love my Keeley Katana Blues- one of the earlier BD pedals RK made for his own company, but I can’t help but think something like the Muse and the RSGPM could work side by side on the same board, almost like a subtler version of that common BD-TS pairing.
  9. Keeley continues to evolve the Blues Driver circuit:
  10. You nailed the assessment! There’s all kinds of nods to the Beatles, right down to their image. The stage set was also very retro-TV. And their sound is definitely shoegaze-adjacent. Conceptually like what the Fab Four might have sounded like as shoegaze pioneers- not quite the fully realized sound but definitely in the neighborhood. More restrained on their use of effects.
  11. The biggest difference is the use of paprika. Most goulashes I’ve had are reddish brown to damn near red with the stuff! Red wine is a common- but not universally used- deglazing liquid when making it. Many recipes use caraway seeds, too. Other than that, the core ingredients of cubed beef chunks, lots of potatoes, onions, garlic, mild peppers, tomatoes and major optional ingredients like carrots are in common. In fact, when I do my goulash-oid stews, I use tomato juice/Bloody Mary mix as one of my major liquid ingredients- AT LEAST as much of that as broth/stock.
  12. We do something like that and/or turkey salad as our major go-tos for Thanksgiving leftovers if/when sandwiches just won’t cut it. It’s a great comfort food recipe. And as it turns out, I did a small post-Thanksgiving turkey and just put about 4.3c of meat away in the freezer last night for later use. Might just do a tetrazzini in January. Thanks for the reminder!
  13. Usually, I make something akin to a Hungarian Goulash, but I was craving something more traditionally American. And so: https://imgur.com/gallery/ordA6fD
  14. OK. That’s a completely new one on me!
  15. Sorry for my imprecision: I meant THAT EQ pedal would be an F1 racer compared to my actual needs!
  16. I should probably get an EQ pedal, but that’s like getting a Formula 1 racer for someone who barely passed their driving test in a used Kia.
  17. Somehow, David Gilmour’s approach to playing guitar is completely in service to whatever song he’s playing and simultaneously unmistakably his work. There’s a studious neutrality, a negation of egocentrism that still comes across as characteristic of his playing and no one else’s. I can’t think of a piece he’s played on that contains a “sour” note or musical phrase that didn’t seem to fit the greater composition. I never find myself asking, “Why did he play THAT?” (The only other guitarist I can think of like this is Mark Knopfler.)
  18. Some of my favorite Gilmour work outside of Pink Floyd: There’s No Way Out of Here Blue Light All Lovers Are Deranged Is Your Love Strong Enough (w/Brian Ferry, for the Legend soundtrack) Running Up That Hill (with Kate Bush)
  19. Like they mentioned, this looks like a PERFECT practice tool. And if you’re the kind of player with an arsenal of amps, this could help you narrow down WHAT amp & cab options work best for a set list or new composition.
  20. Nice demo for that pedal. I should note the player’s expressions were concerning. At first, I thought his bass smelled funny. But I noticed that his expressions were consistent as he switched instruments. The smell must be in the room! Surströmming, perhaps?
