Gruupi
Well I am bored and thought I would start a mundane topic just for fun. What are some of your favorite guitar intros. Not riffs or quick breaks, but well constructed musical passages. Doesn't really even need to be all that techinical. Here are some of mine: Little Wing- If Hendrix had done nothing else of value other than this intro, he still would have been a god. Stairway to Heaven- Besides that all the radio stations overplay the song, it is such a well written piece. Whats nice about it is that almost anyone can play it and make it sound decent. It just shows that you don't have to shred to play great guitar. Cliffs of Dover-But of course a little technical stuff sure can sound good too. I have seen Eric Johnson play this live many, many times and it is always different. The album version is very well constructed but the harmonic material is so nice, that a player of Eric's caliber can do so many cool things with it. So what are some of your favorites? rw2003
I think the classic guitar intro is by the man who invented rock and roll guitar playing himself, Chuck Berry and the intro is from Johnny B. Goode. http://www.guitarmasta.net/b/berry,_chuck/226913.html "Spend all day doing nothing But we sure do it well" - Huck Johns from 'Oh Yeah' Click to Listen to Oh yeah

There are some pretty nice running lead lines in it though! and that bare Strat tone is classic I think. http://www.thestringnetwork.com

Rhino Madness
For the classic intros, how about Hotel California? I tend to like pretty much all intros to the music I've loved at one point or another (Randy Rhoads on Ozzy's stuff, VH on his classic albums, etc.; those come to mind right now). Caputo : Black Star is a good call! I also love YJM's arrangement of Tomas Albinoni's Adagio in G minor as an intro to Icarus Dream Suite. Guitar55
For a much longer, "orchestrated" intro, check out Lou Reed's live version of "Sweet Jane" on Rock N Roll Animal with Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner on guitars. Incredible!
