djwayne
Joe Walsh and the James Gang first actual concert, at the time though they were a local band and played many of the dance halls around here too. The music was great but there was only 12 people there, not counting the bands. First major concert was Santana, a girlfriend had the tickets, and needed a ride, so I went, and it was great !! PeaceThis was back in 1970, and I had heard of Santana but wasn't really into it. That is until after I saw the show... the percussions blew me away, the lighting was fantastic, Carlos was wailing on the guitar, and there was about 20,000 people there. It was a great show !! I've been to a few of his concerts and he always puts on a good show. The best was the Santana/Jeff Beck Tour, I had seats in the 7th row !! Jeff Beck was awesome and very loud, but Santanta stold the show right back !! Living' in the shadow, of someone else's dream....

RichardAshkenazi
As far as rock, I think it was Nine Inch Nails in 1994, Downward Spiral tour. With my sisters and some of their friends and my dad. (Don't worry, he's cool.) Melvins opened, were booed off stage. Jim Rose Circus was pretty cool. NIN was the experience you'd expect it to be. yamsa2000
Canned Heat and Steve Stills and Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs - '70 or '71. Thorpie killed 'em. The very first band I ever saw, at a school dance, was a band called the Dave Miller Set with a guy called John Robinson on guitar who later formed Blackfeather. That guy was my guitar-hero for years.Oscure record freaks take note: do yourself a favour and check out the Blackfeather LP Mountains of Madness. http://www.crabsodyinblue.com/acdcblackfeather.htm

tvvoodoo
my first concert was Triumph in Regina Saskatchewan 1984 - I remember a lot of laser crap. I lost all my friends I'd went down with (maybe they lost me) and ended up at some very wierd house party, all messed up. Had to take the greyhound back to Saskatoon the next day. coyote
Deep Purple. Madison Square Garden, 1974. THAT was a rock concert. I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. Gabriel E.
Dickie Betts and Great Southern in '76. Don't remember where except that it was outside. I was 5. The first concert that I remember was Neil Young in '84. During his "country" period and the Judds opened for him. It was aweful. henryrobinett
CCR circa 1969. I really liked Born On The Bayou Funny. I saw Alice Cooper in about 1971 opening for Steve Miller. He was lame, lame, lame. Got booed practically off the stage. He had this strange gay persona and a bunch of real small dumb props like a rubber chicken he'd squeeze and throw across the stage, limp wrist. Audience just didn't get it or appreciate it. It certainly was nothing like the Alice Cooper to come. All the best, Henry Robinett

I mean I also loved Mingus, Miles and Coltrane, Eric Dolphy at the same time! I was a weird kid! Other early concerts (1969-ish) were Blood, Sweat and Tears, Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa, Mingus, Duke Ellington, Iron Butterfly (yikes!), Chick Corea, Steve Miller, -- oh who's that blues guy used to play around town all the time before he made it big? "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" was his hit. Jamed with him too! And a ton of local concerts, bands on the heavily populated music scene at the time. Boy those daze were certainly different than these! All the best, Henry Robinett

Mudcat
My first concert was late '79 (maybe early '80). I saw the Romantics at the Royal Oak Music Theater on the first night (but second show) of their first national tour. I was disappointed because they had worn their famous red leather outfits for the first show and wore black leather for the show I attended. A few weeks later I saw the the Ramones at the Motor City Skate Rink. The next day was stoked because I could still barely hear out of my left ear. Now THAT was rock-n-roll!
