BTW, I don't think the NYG-Atl game got a lot of national play, but lemmetellya, the Giants brutalized the Falcons on both sides of the ball. After an ugly start for both teams, and then after Warwick Dunn's 90 yd. TD run, the Giants were utterly dominant. Vick took so many big hits (all were legit except Pierce's stupodity in the waning seconds...) and the Giants just gashed the 4th best run defense in the NFL. Giants are a little Jekyll and Hyde, but for the last two weeks they've certainly looked like a team that has gotten its act together.

Yep, I saw, and you are correct!

Tiki ran all over them, 7 sacks on Vick, and to think Atlanta was up 14-3 in the 3rd quarter. Those Giants sure know how to close!

I switched just one, but it had the same unfortunate outcome.

And that was the one I switched!

Congrats to your team, John! :thu:

I caught a bit of the Giants-Falcons game. They made me a bit sorry that I benched Eli Manning and Jeremy Shockey in favor of Philip Rivers and Marques Colston on my fantasy team. I picked up Colston when he was a free agent, before anyone else had an idea who he'd be, and he turned out to be an incredible value pick because he can be played as WR or TE in our league. One of my FFL rivals dumped Philip after the Baltmore game, so I snatched him up. :) I'm still leading my opponent by more than 10 and am counting on Chicago's defense to keep me on top.

I also saw a bit of the Eagles-Saints game. Brees is a great fit for that Saints system. Colston is like his new Antonio Gates - big target with some big play ability. Bush and McAllister are as fine an RB tandem for him as LT-Turner was in SD (well, if SD had been using Turner as much in 2004-2005 as they are in 2006). Joe Horn showed he can still be a weapon too.

Philip Rivers was a big question mark before the season. We thought we'd have to really lean on the running game more than we did with Brees, which is why we brought in Brandon Manumaleuna, a big 288-lb blocking TE. It sure looked that way against Oakland and Baltimore. I think Rivers' performance against the Steelers' defense (down a bit this year, but still a ferocious pass rush and tough as ever vs. the run) won Marty's confidence, at least for the Niners game. I was surprised Marty still let Philip come out throwing, already up 41-19 in the 4th quarter - very un-Martyball like. Maybe they felt Philip needed more practice for the big divisional matchup this upcoming Sunday in Arrowhead Stadium. He's had great chemistry with WRs Eric Parker and Malcolm Floyd, but had yet to get the timing down with Keenan McCardell and Vincent Jackson (6' 5", like Floyd and Gates, but with greater speed).

I have to admit, the game at Arrowhead will be a much tougher road test for Philip and the Chargers than Monster Park by the Bay. The Chargers typically struggle there, and it was the site of Ryan Leaf's infamous meltdown. And, the Chiefs might be fired up and determined to prove themselves after the beatdown in Pittsburgh.

Oh, one other thing that I think is kind of "official" now: Drew Brees is good.

And Philip Rivers may just be even better. The Bolts are hitting their stride.
That's a big maybe, but SD certainly looks none the worse for losing Brees at this time. Two years of wtaching puts Rivers both a step behind his classmates Ben and Eli and a step ahead in other ways.

SD-Den is gonna be a couple of big games this year.

Well - I don't know about that, Steve. Drew did it yesterday against a tough Eagles squad. Rivers did it against a hapless San Fran D.

True,

Two of San Diego's wins have been against Oakland and the Titans. Not exactly stellar defenses. But the Chargers have knocked off the Steelers and should have beat the Ravens if Marty let Phillip play. Rivers is starting to look the the real deal.

Drew was amazing yesterday given how the Eagles D can give an QB fits. Plus he could have easily folded under pressure once Philly came back and took the lead.

Last year as a Charger, Drew nearly orchestrated a comeback in Philly after Philly took the lead by blocking a field goal attempt and returning it for a TD. Unfortunately for Drew and the Chargers, WR Reche Caldwell (now a Patriot) caught what should have been a 1st-down pass and fumbled the ball back to Philly. So I wasn't surprised by Drew's effort against Philly this year.

I believe they call that dodging a bullet.

Steady is right. Rex is overrated, but the real problem tonight was a defense that looked like it was still in pre season. Missed tackles, blown coverage and an ineffectual rush.... these guys are NOT the 85 Bears. but this game shows they got heart.

I think this game will get them out of the clouds they were floating on. I really think they were starting to believe all the hype being thrown around on TV .

A bye week and then 2 games at home against weak teams and we're to 8-0. I'll take it.

Personally, I believe this was just a tale of two halves. The Bears D didn't show up 1st half.

As for Grossman, honestly he just looked like a kid who isn't used to having to play from behind. He was pressing, overthrowing, trying to do too much.

I actually found that uncomfortable to watch. Snakebit.

When The Cards were lining up to punt with 3 minutes left, I said to myself, hey, the Bears might actually win this thing if they can get their defense back on the field...

I do believe that the Bears were exposed -- but it is not "mad bomber" Grossman that is the main concern; it is their utter lack of a consistemnt ground game. You can't play NFC "Nord" style ball without a winter ready ground game.

Grossman's ptiful pathetic night (probably the worst game ever played by a winning QB) might be the best thing that culd have happened to the Bears. It will dispense with their big play euphoria and get them focused on a sustainable ball control offense.

The Bears defense is simply nuts. Simply nuts how good they are. I swear Urlacher is the player that Ray Lewis has been claiming to be all these years.

Possible Denny Green scenerio's after the game, and worst podium meltdown in the history of coaching.

a) He went home, and when he got there, EVERYBODY in the house pretended to be asleep.

b) He's drunk and passed out on some Arizona bar counter right now talking in his sleep: "We had 'em" "They are what we thought they were" "If you want to crown 'em, then crown their ass"

c) He was rushed by police escort to a nearby hospital for precautionary cardiac monitoring..

d) He sitting on the edge of his bed right now shaking his head and repeating "I am so fired.." over & over.

There is an omen over the Arizona Cardinals. Not only to blow a 20 point lead but for one of the most consistent kickers in the NFL to miss a 40 yarder....

They need to call a priest and get that place exorcised. Put him to good use. ;)

I do not think Denny Green should be fired any more than Joe Gibbs...not yet.

No, I don't think Green should be fired. I think he should get an O-line so he can run the ball in the 4th quarter. It's that or 4 win seasons for a long time.

Edge had 36 carries for like 55 yards, and he was running HARD! They need a line.

Steve Smith...Anquan Boldin...Da Bears gotta find a way to stop these premier receivers if they really want it to win it all.

I bet Rex's leash just got tightened. No way he does another half like that and not expect Griese to finish the other.
