Here's more evidence that steadyb doesn't know his *ss from a hole on the moon...

>>Lakers will never give Philly the chance to even get close. Kobe will enjoy cutting their heart out. The end is near.<<

Kobe? Kobe who? I didn't see no f*cking Kobe tonight? There's a porn star named Kobe Tai, is that who you're talking about? Oh, yeah...now that you mention it, I DID see someone named Kobe getting screwed on the court tonight. I didn't see her cutting any hearts out, though.

Philly would have been wiser to wait until they get home to win one. Then they could've snuck up and grabbed some momentum at home. Instead, they broke the streak, woke up the Lakers, and made Shaq mad.

I hate to break it to you Curvacious D, but Philly gets no ring this year.

But congrats on the Sixers best game of the season.

They're not as good as Jordan-era Bulls, but they've got the same problem in the playoffs they had. They get up in points and suddenly get careless.

Kobe's probably the best when Carter isn't on, but he doesn't have Jordan's focus for situations like what happened in game 1 - the opposing team is thought to be beat, then they get a streak going. Lakers are still immature in that respect, but better than they were pre-Jackson. Every year in the finals they'll get more consistent.

Iverson right now is killing, he wanted it more than Kobe or Shaq did tonight. The Lakers lost tonight because of their rings....

Lakers will win it in the end, though.

ASIDE:

How about Dikembe's voice? Normally it's not as hoarse and raspy as it was tonight, but MAN.... What a scary voice. Also, notice that Dikembe makes each syl aa bllle exxactlyyy the sammme lenghttt whennn he speeeaks, and the pauses between words are all identical and distinct. Dikembe would make a great Wise Guy (distantly removed, of course):

SHILL: "I'm s-ss-sorry, I really thought I'd make the money this time at the track, I don't know what happened, "Speedy Viagra" won his last race, I mean, I, I'll get the 50 G somehow, just give me some more time"

DIKEMBE: "That-is-ok. You-shut-up-now. Time-for-you-to-die-painfullll death"

I want to make a movie featuring the Great Voices of Our Time. It would co-star Sean Connery and Patrick Stewart as down on their luck tycoons forced to get by in the ghetto, and Christopher Walken would play some role as well, along with Jack Nicholson. Hmm. Maybe they all get lost, yeah, that's it, their car breaks down in Compton, and they have to interact with everyday life there. Just going in a Taco Bell and ordering something would be a riot...

Philly got the ring tonight, period. LA could win the next 4, and it wouldn't make a dif. The Sixers were such massive underdawgs tonight, that by winning, they shattered all predictions. Iverson's MVP, not Miss Kobe or Shack. Larry Brown's coach of the year, not Phil Jackson. Philly beat LA in LA against the odds of a 30+ point spread. That's all you need to know. I'm getting back to work on my CD, and I'm not even going to bother to watch the rest of the series (OK, maybe I'll peek once in awhile). We are the champions. You can take that ring and stroke your pencil with it. But I don't think you'll get the ring, so go buy some hand lotion. Shack can get as mad as he wants, and that's exactly what the Sixers want, because that gets him off his game and adds to the tension between him and Kobe, who didn't show up at all. We got LA right where we want them.

Good game Philly...actually Great game.

I was especially disappointed that the Lakers lost focus in the last minute of overtime...they really goofed that up but didn't deserve to win anyway after the poor ball handling they displayed in the first half.

Kobe got no respect from the refs...he got hacked a few times with no call and got called for a couple of clean blocks too, kinda pissed me off...they still let Iverson travel with the ball almost everytime he makes a move.

None of that will matter Friday night...Lakers in 5!

Hmmm...the traveling complaint is a bit dicey. Shaq is quite a foot shuffler himself, and when was the last time anyone got called for a travel that wasn't flagrant? More of an issue to me is the very nature of Shaq's low post moves, esp. when he lowers his shoulder and pile drives. It's a tough call, and there's no use complaining about it because the NBA apparently decided in his Orlando years that it's not a foul. Low post players had always been allowed a little more leeway when they catch it deep in the box. If you lower your shoulder and drive into a defender like that on the perimeter, it's a charge every time.

I'm just happy that the series has taken on some excitement. I think the Lakers are really going to bring it Friday night, and I think there's a good chance they'll win easily. But if it's close late, well, that'll be very interesting indeed.

Yours in sports brother and sisterhood,

Magpel

I hate to say it, but there is no way L.A. will let Philly win this series. We are talking about a very proud team with the momentum of a championship, and a fantastic play-off run behind them. Last night only served to get their legs back underneath them. There is no way Kobe will be that dry for the rest of the series, he won't let it happen, and there is no denying that if he had had any where near a decent game last night, Philly, even with Iversons 48 points, wouldn't have been able to compete.

Philly gets the nod for winning a good game yesterday, but they don't have what it takes to beat L.A. 3 more times no matter how you slice it.

I agree that Kobe will play better, and that it might swing the series squarely back to the Lakers, but give the Sixers SOME credit for taking him out of his game, both with pressure on the ball and with Dikembe looming inside.

>>After Iversons comments about Tyronne Lue, I don't think any credit is being passed to anyone!

Yeah, I wish Allen hadn't said that. On the other hand, those on-court heat-of-battle interviews are always a bad time to utter anything excpet the tried and true sports cliches. Don't attempt to say anything original or honest, I think. Jim Gray, little worm, wouldn;t know what to make of it.

Incidentally, did anyone else think that the pregame consortium of Walton, Jones, Raschad, KJ, and PJ was just a tad bizarre? All of them talking at once? Walton and Jones trying to get their usual antagonism going, but both being incoherent? Carlessimo, veins bulging in his neck, trying to yell over the crowd? Yikes, and you could see it in their faces too. They knew they were broadcasting total gibberish at that point.

I hardly think winning one game constitutes eating the appetizer let alone the whole pie Dan. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

I think Bill Walton is a moron.

L.A. has the advantage IMO, cause 1)I don't think Mutumbo can go 4 quarters against Shaq, and 2)They haven't anyone else in the works to pick up the slack for Mutumbo effectively. I also see the Philly bench isn't as deep IMO than L.A.'s.

Philly in da house!!!!

Ummm, didn't that just happen last night, though? Larry Brown was smart sitting Mutumbo out. He would have played the entire game if not for foul trouble-and even then, he did what he had to do in OT. I would be a fool if I said that Mutumbo can take Shaq out of a game-his job is to contain him. Shaq was huffing and puffing down the stretch and Mutumbo wasn't even breaking a sweat. Lakers should hope that they have easier games cause if every game is like last night, it will be Shaq they will be giving oxygen to on the bench by Game 3.

I couldn't disagree more with that interpretation of last nights game.

If last night is any indication, the other 2nd and 3rd string centers for Philly are going to get LESS playing time than they did last night because they were basically ineffective against Shaq, and so not only will Mutumbo not be able to rest as much, but will be MORE likely to have foul problems.

Mutumbo can go the distance with Shaq and then some. Yes, the 2/3 string centers were struggling, but then, there aren't many 1 string Centers that could handle Shaq either. Mutumbo has not only the stamina to wear Shaq down, he also has the intelligence. After all, Mutumbo IS the Defensive Player fo the Year, not Shaq.

No offense, but Mutumbo, nor the other Philly centers earned any "defensive" accolades against Shaq's 44 points last night.

There is NO big man in the NBA, IMO, who can go the distance with Shaq. Not even the defensive player of the year. Mutumbo, at least from my perspective, doesn't come close to being able to match Shaq's minutes, AND keep that level of energy. You can rest him for nearly a quarter like Philly did last night, but then if Kobe has a decent game, that won't be enough IMO.

This is pointless, we'll have to wait and see. When is game two anyway?

Y'see, this is where i don't get the whole Shaq thing. He's BIG. He's an okay basketball player, I suppose, but mostly he's just BIG. He's not outplaying people, he's outmuscling them. He ducks his shoulder and pushes people out of the way. Where's the skill in that?

Friday night 6pm Pacific ... I'll be watching the game and drinking my import (George Killian's Red Zee best of zee best ... although a Focusrite Red would be nice too http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif Anyhoo!). This streak thing was media talk. The Lakers always said they don't care about that issue and take it one game at a time.

Cheers and GO LAKERS!!!

Shaq is more than just an ok basketball player...I'll admit he can't shoot for shit...he has a terrible jump shot but there's obviously more to basketball than shooting.

Part of his game uses his bulk to move people out of the way but I disagree with those who think he does it to the extent that you have to call an offensive foul. He's not running full steam into people just forcing them to take his weight (330+ lbs.) which is pretty much legal in the post.

The skills that really set Shaq apart are his quickness...ball handling (the man can dribble the ball, I don't think anyone who plays with or against him would argue that)...defensive patience...anticipation on rebounds...and general court awareness.

The fact that he has these skills AND a mutant frame to go with it make him the most dominant big guy in the league...without the skills he'd just be another big guy.

Kobe wakes up Friday...Lakers in 5.

He's like Barkley on steroids. He's big, but he ain't no Olajuwan. Give me Hakeem and that fadeaway jumper anyday. Is Shaq still throwing bricks from the line?
