Interesting, but I still hope that these are Controller Keyboards.

What feature(s) do you miss in the existing controller keyboards that you would like to see in a Yamaha one?

The action from the CP88 in the CK88, or at least an action that is better/faster than my Studioligic SL88 Grand.

And a nice synth action in the CK61. It would also be cool to see some drawbars on this one.

I would also love to see physical controllers geared toward live performance along for the ride on both units.

A controller keyboard with the audio interface from the Modx and other models would be handy.

The ability to program splits/layers into multiple onboard presets, each of which can send multiple program changes and controller changes on multiple channels when selected.

The ability to act as a USB host.

But yeah, decent action and USB audio interface.

Cheers, Mike.

The closest to having it all in a controller that I've seen lately is the new M-Audio Hammer 88 Pro. I'd like to see a 73-76 key controller with all the outputs and topside controls of that, but with a better action, at least as good as the Kawai RHC. All housed in the shallowest possible chassis, even shallower than the 11" M-Audio (the sliders could have less travel, smaller and fewer pads/buttons – see how Roland AX00 Pro series managed this). Something with the overall back-front depth of -10".

Thanks for posting the link, fleer. I have to give credit to Jan for getting me thinking about this. I burned up so many brain cells diving into old service manuals that I was a veg at rehearsal last night. 😄

The SK-30 mono (solo) synthesizer uses the same ICs as the CS-80, but not the same circuits. The SK-30 VCF doesn't have the same envelope parameters, etc. However, Yamaha could model (VCM) the ICs and implement a better-featured CS section. I wonder if they did any circuit modeling for Reface YC? Was surprised to see actual sine waves for each drawbar footage instead of square waves a la combo organs.

SL 88 Studio is much quicker action...the grand felt like it was sticking your fingers into a wet sponge

There is no luck - luck is simply the confluence of circumstance and co-incidence...

I owned the Studio before I bought the Grand. My Studio became very sluggish over time. That's why I sold it.

Maybe CK is the intentionally mirrored acronym for KC (Keyboard Corner)? They mirrored it, because it's a nerd thing, besides when you're Yamaha (and the rest), you never quote the name of another brand directly, Moog is MG, Rhodes is RD, KC is CK... you get the idea.

So, it's the CK-61 and CK-88 keyboards. Yamaha spent three years reading rants and wishes on this very forum and came up with the single bestest keyboard in the world that would satisfy even the most demanding KC member.
