VTines for iOS

I did all the IAPs too. This combined with AUM's midi routing features is serious midiot stuff! I'm very happy with what I can get done on my i-devices right now.

This is awesome! Midiflow plus AUM (and its fx and routing) hosting Pianoteq and VTines will give me my favorite AP and Rhodes sounds for jazz gigs, just on the phone in my pocket!  Well, plus my keyboard controller and audio interface....

Midiflow. Not an insert, rather it's a separate app but you can easily route the midi to any individual channel in AUM. The two middle handles can be freely moved side-to-side as well as up & down, so it's pretty flexible (the "top" and "bottom" handles are moveable up & down only, which makes sense). I have two Midiflow routings, one for my acoustic piano and the other for my Rhodes, so I can have individual velocity remap curves for each.

The only "bug" is that that this app may be abandoned! The support forum's most recent messages are a few years old, and after registerering there I was unable to post - got an error message. No response from the dev when I tried asking for help. Despite that, it's been rock-solid (so far), with one bug I saw on an earlier iPad not appearing on my newer 9G. I use Midiflow to switch presets on my iPad, rather than loading different AUM scenes - it's instantaneous, and automatically closes notes if you switch Midiflow presets with a held note or notes.

Great suggestion, thanks!

I am new to Midiflow, and I managed to have it working with AUM, thanks, its great.

I am also experimenting using it directly and only with VTines. It's possible, even if there are no virtual midi inputs: you have to set your physical keyboard to send, for example, on midi channel 1 (its usually like this by default). Then in Midiflow, set your input keyboard to channel 1. Use then the  "remap channel" modifier to channel 2. Then set Vtines to receive on all midi sources but only on midi channel 2. In this way the notes coming from the keyboard will be ignored, because it's on channel 1, and it works.

It works fine, but I still have a question: in Vtines if you select, as a midi source, ONLY the audio interface, it does not work. If you select ALL SOURCES, it works. So I guess that in Vtines there is a kind of "hidden" virtual midi port? And this is hidden port can only be used when ALL SOURCES is selected?

And allow for setting your own sound as default

Since it sounds like you can't set your own favorite sound as its default, what mechanism(s) does it provide for recalling your favorite sound? Does it see MIDI Program Change to recall user programs?

Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)

Sorry but VTines was unloaded from my iPhone & iPad a long time ago. I use the Scarbee rhodes in Korg Module these days. I take it your audio interface is where the midi from your controller is going? That's strange behavior then.

I went back and re-read this thread from the beginning. The earliest posts I made were literally the beginning of my adventure with iOS music-making software. I got a chuckle out of the ignorance I displayed!

No MIDI Program Change – just editing parameters. At least they can be saved in the menu, but at the bottom of the list.

So is there any way to specify a particular (factory or user) preset, other than selecting it on the iPad from within the app itself? Does the answer to that question change if you're using it from within a host (e.g. Camelot Pro, Keystage)?

Yes, my physical keyboard is obviously connected to the audio interface, and in Midiflow I select my audio interface as my input keyboard (on channel 1 - in the above example).

Yes, AUM will state-save the preset of choice as default, and you can also setup MIDI control change for presets. 😎
