Songs you never get tired of?

Recommended Posts

Getting burned out on good songs is always a problem for people who play in cover bands, or just listen to music a lot. Here are eight I never get tired. No matter how much I hear them, the next time is always like the first time. :D

Bout to Wail Dizzy Gillespie

Fame David Bowie

La Grange ZZ Top

Digging Your Scene The Blow Monkeys

Manteca Chico OFarill Orchestra and others

Run and Coke Ed Calle

Driven to Tears The Police

Oye Como Va Tito Puente or Santana

Robert

Hmmm, I think maybe this should be songs I still sing all the time around the house:

No Reply - Beatles

The Stolen Child - Waterboys (mainly 'cause of the lyrics which are from one of my favorite Yeats poems)

River of Orchids - XTC (for all those times I wish the internal combustion engine would become obsolete)

Driving With The Brakes On - Del Amitri

Waiting For The Moon - Bruce Cockburn (such great ironic lyrics-: "Might be a party, might be a war, when those faceless soldiers come ashore. Speculation is a waste of time. Wanna go and have a glass of wine. Whatever happens, there's no where else to go. Waiting for the moon to show"

Into The Mystic - Van Morrison

A bunch of old hymns and gospel tunes, like "O The Deep, Deep Love of Jesus", "Swing Low Sweet Chariot", etc.

many, many more.

I was waiting to see who the wisea$$ would be and what annoying song(s) he/she would choose. :D

As for me:

I Love To See You Smile - Randy Newman

Larry's World - Russ Freeman

Liquid Amber - Laurence Juber

Couldn't Stand The Weather - Stevie Ray Vaughn

Back In Black, You Shook Me (All Night Long) - AC/DC

Something In The Way She Moves, Copperline - James Taylor

I could do this all day and never end....

"Fame"? "La Grange"? Yuk! I was sick of La Grange even before I had to play it countless times in a band.

"Oye Como Va" is good, though.

Try these:

"Lester Left Town" - Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers (written by Wayne Shorter)

"All Along The Watchtower" - Jimi Hendrix. A perfect rendition of a perfect song (written, of course, by Bob Dylan).

Another good one by Wayne Shorter is "Africaine".

(Yes, I love Wayne).

"I Wanna Be Your Dog" Iggy & The Stooges. Crude and to the point.

In as much as I love music and all that, I can't imagine choosing a song that I would really never get sick of. Even with my short list of very favorite songs, I have to put them away for months or years at a time so I don't burn out on them.

Off the top of my head, my list would go something like this...

- "Help Me" (Joni Mitchell)

- "Freewill" (Rush)

- "Master of Puppets" (Metallica)

- "Isn't She Lovely" (Stevie Wonder)

- "Duke's Travels / Duke's End" (Genesis)

- "September" (Earth, Wind and Fire)

I don't know that these tunes have anything in common. Hmm. I would also say that the more likely list is a countless number of classical, baroque and romantic music by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Bach and many others.

Real songs I never get tired of...

Beatles and such...

The medley on side 2 of "Abbey Road".

"Maybe I'm Amazed". Hearing it done live was awesome.

A ton of Rundgren.

I rather like Sheryl Crow. Not all of her stuff, the stuff that's not beat to death on the radio.

Too much to mention...some Lyle Lovett, k.d. lang, sheesh...just about anything you don't hear on mainstream radio all the time.

Heck, I'd be typing all night long...

Ok, here's one for sure, Paul McCartney and Wings - 1985 - just can't get that piano out-of my mind.

Man, I had a dream last night that I had bought a baby-grand piano, and I was shopping in this weird store with all these crazy-looking piano's so I bought like a minature toy baby-grand and was so embarrassed that I then bought an upright so I could get it through the door of my apartment!

I'm not even a piano player, but I add my own key's to supplement my guitar music. I acually got-up this morning looking in the paper for a "cheap" baby-grand.

One of these day's I'll invest in a web site to put my music "up", are there any "freebies" out there?

Wow...yeah...Goin' Down and Thirty Days in the Hole...two rock and roll classics that NEVER get played on classic rock stations.

And, I don't believe I've ever heard "You Know My Name" referenced on any list like this. It is a funny tune.
