Now that you mention it, he is rather small with somewhat pointy ears. So, yeah, I guess. :D

He's also old, and the last time I did this, I had to yell into the phone for him to hear me. But that's okay. Les is the Man. Not the elf.

Anyone who has ever recorded music owes Les Paul an incredible debt of gratitude. What we do in the studio, even today, well, it all traces back to him. Jeff, I would appreciate it it you would please pass along my personal thanks to him for his many innovations, incredible music and oh yeah, his guitars! :D The man, quite literally, changed my life, and changed music forever. I'm forever grateful.

And how cool for you that you get to interview him! Congratulations!!!

Hey! Take a look around. Although they account for a tiny percentage of Gibson's output, they have and continue to offer left handed models. If you have the time, check out www.southpawguitars.com . (At least I think that's their website address. ) Southpaw is in Texas, but they sell to leftys all over via the 'net. Also, they often have models that are not normally available in lefty configuration, due to buying a whole run of lefty guitars at one time.

Sorry to hijack yer thread, Jeff. V-e-r-y cool for you to interview Les Paul. Too bad you couldn't get your client to spring for some plane tickets, a hotel room, and tickets to his weekly show at the Iridium.

Have a great time!

It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman

Yeah seriously...

Les Paul is like the Founding Father Of Moderne Music.

Electric guitars, multitrack recording, (and iirc a lot of the oldschool effects like chorus, slapback/delay, flange etc), everything.

"Rock N Roll" just wouldn't have been possible without him.

And on top of that, the guy is an awesome musician!! Even with arthritis and his right elbow set at a 90-degree angle!

Give my regards to Les, Mahwah, and da rest a Joisey.

NJ probably has the most jazz guitarists per capita than any other state. The corridor from NYC to Philly is full of them, like the late Chuck Wayne, GEORGE BENSON, Russell Malone, John Tropea, DiMeola, John and Bucky Pizzarelli.

Ironically, John Pizzarelli sings "I Love Jersey Best" yet does TV ads for Foxwoods Casino in CONN.

Yo John, whatabout Atlantic City?

Have you recorded an MP3 today?

Hey Jeff -- If you haven't had the chance to hang with Les you'll find he's a treasure trove of cool stories. Nice guy, too. Please send him my regards, and tell him I'll look him up next time I'm visiting my mother in Mahwah.

I have, actually, been so fortunate as to have hung out with Les, and I have a great story.

I was at Alesis then, in the fall of '95 at the AES show in NYC. Les came up to me at our booth, where I happened to be standing next to a rack of ADATs, and asked what they were (though I had the feeling he already knew).

"Mr. Paul, those are multitrack digital recorders," I told him.

"Have you sold a bunch of them?" he asked, a gleam forming in his eye.

"Yes, sir. Tens of thousands."

"Well, then, you owe me a lot of money," he replied, almost straight-faced, then launched into his signature cackle.

Les and I talked for awhile. I had so much to thank him for, and before he left, he spontaneously wrote this to me:

...which I thought was pretty freakin' cool. :thu:

Please send him my regards, and tell him I'll look him up next time I'm visiting my mother in Mahwah.
Will do. Getting my notes together now. Should be a fun phoner.

As if any of us could forget it. ;)

I think that was the joke, dumb dumb :P
Boys, don't MAKE me have to stop this car! ;):P:D

A joke yes, but a certain underlying humility to it. And a certain humble knowledge of his legendary status too. And it's something an old time vaudville or jazz or country cat would think to say. They wanted to keep fans, they valued fans. Unlike a lot of acts these days. Again, Les is a class act.

Looking forward to reading the interview Jeff.
