A Jon Kammerer flag guitar:

I have a semihollow version of this model, with a plain cherrywood top. This is a STEAL- Jon's flag guitars go for $2500+ new these days, depending on complexity. The craftsmanship is excellent. That is NOT a paint job, that is all woodwork, carefully cut and pieced together. The frets are blind set, which is to say that their edges are contained within the fretboard and neck, which means no binding is needed to protect the hand from sharp bits of metal.

Developments:

1) the seller knocked $100 off the price, so he clearly wants to move it

2) found this US Masters for sale at a similarly bargain price

Well, I know I can do the latter, but the former may require some practice. ;)

Hey, Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. We're all in the same boat.

BTW: Are you old enough to know who the Lone Ranger is? I have used that phrase to adults who didn't know what I was talking about.

If you play cool, you are cool.

I grew up I with reruns of The Lone Ranger, along with Bonanza, The Rifleman and other westerns- westerns are Dad's favorite fiction genre after Sci-Fi. MY favorite western was Wild, Wild West.

I grew up with Roy Rogers, Lone Ranger, Cisco Kid, Hop-along Cassidy, Wagon Train, Rawhide, Rifleman, Bonanza, etc. I think I liked Raw Hide the best...unless you include my all time favorite Kung Fu! :D

Thanks, all!

Jon's stuff is embarrassingly good. If you saw the original Reverb listing, the seller showed what looked like a heinous gouge on the back of the neck. I suspect that is what let the price dip so freakishly low.

Well, I can tell you that if you press your finger into it, it seems like a canyon. But when you're playing it is hardly noticeable. I was planning on sending it back to Jon for repair or replacement, but I now know I won't have to.

Amusing side note: I generally don't buy multiples of the same guitar. I have 2 slightly different Fernandes Ravelles, and almost bought a third. Well, this unintended purchase is my third JKG in this model family- the second I purchased was an all natural maple with black hardware & pups, with a tremolo (my first ever trem!); the first one was a semihollow hardtail in cherry. All have coil spitting.

I didn't ask 'cause I don't want to know. I thought it was a good deal when it was initially posted. As the price dropped, I was stunned each day it didn't get sold.

Finally, I had to go to a party, and I decided if it was still available when I got home. When I got home, another $50 bucks had been chopped off, and it was like a reflex: the "Add To Cart" button was pushed within 30 seconds.

:D

I didn't want to buy a guitar this year, but I don't think I'll regret this.

Well, it feels just like my other 2 versions of the same guitar.

Helpful, right? :D

It feels a bit like some of those high-end shredder guitars from Ibanez and similar companies. The body is very ergonomic: not very deep and rounded contours. There are no hard corners. The 24 fret neck is relatively slender, and the blind-set fret edges are as smooth as if they had been bound.

So the physical act of playing it is pure pleasure.

I don't know which SD pickups are in it, but I'm not sure I'm going to keep them in it. Through my gear, they sound relatively high output, much like the ones in the second version of this JKG model I bought. So I'm not sure if I want to have another guitar with nearly identical voicing. Meanwhile, the semihollow version of this guitar has Golden Age (PAF-like) pickups. So going for THAT kind of tone may not be the way to go,

Custom wounds are an option, of course, but that doesn't answer the question of what voicing they should have.

And since all of them are coil-splitting, I don't want to go for HB-sized P90s. I don't want to lose that little trick.

As a result, I'm a bit at sea about which direction to go with this. No change is necessary, but I feel I might play it more if I can give it a unique voice.

Maybe...maybe some TV Jones FillerTrons or PowerTrons? (Are those even splittable?)
