cool new effects

Do NOT slice yourself!! Or your clothes, or the item(s) in the box, or... ANYTHING other than the intended tape and packaging materials... !! PLEASE... !! *BE* *CAREFUL* *!!* That opening showing the opening really made me cringe...

Now back to our scheduled program viewing...

I like it- it's cool, fun- but it really seems S0O0O0O0OO NOT PRACTICAL for real-world live gigging! "Bedroom ready" only!

I do like the ability to pair up cartridges in either order... If I had money to burn, I'd get this whole shebang, and even try to order special custom cartridges, or have mods done...

I have to wonder just how long it'll be before threatening legal team 'Cease and Desist' litigation is sent out regarding some of those cartridge names and labels, and these become rare, overpriced "collectibles"...

Two recent pedals that I really like:

Eventide TriceraChorus - it does typical 80s style chorus, but it's so flexible, offering vibrato, chorus and chorale (two voices added to chorus)... dialed in low, it thickens up a tone and adds some dimension and breadth.

Lounsberry's Amp Rescue - intended to add life to a solid state, this pedal acts like a presence knob on an amp; those upper harmonics and definition pop through and it sounds great with tubes and modeling gear. Makes a tone cut through the mix 10% more effectively.

yeah, the box opening section was really scary. I used to work a job where I had to have a box cutter with me all the time, and I also had heavy duty gardening gloves for whenever I had to use it.

I use a lot of sharp tools at work, heavy duty scissors for cutting fiberglass and a scrapper with double sided razor blades + different power tools. My whole first day was safety training.

Indeed. Ages ago, working in restaurants, I really got myself once- and learned to better handle knives. I'm very comfortable with knives, box cutters, etc. but I always feel nervous watching anybody else using a knife, especially in the kitchen! Largely because I have witnessed some horrible knife and similar blade-type accidents when people used knives, etc. very poorly and unsafely. Don't underestimate the serrated edges on cling-wrap boxes- ESPECIALLY on large, HEAVY, 'institutional size' ones!

Now back to our scheduled program... 😉

That looks to be an interesting and very versatile chorus pedal! And that's coming from someone (me) who grew to generally loath chorus pedals!

Sounds GREAT in this demo- but, well, it's Pete Thorn... 😎

That could be just the thing sometimes. I just might have to try one someday!

Those 2 videos reminded me of things I’ve heard in electronic music from the 1960s (like early Tangerine Dream) or atmospheric stuff from movie and videogame soundtracks in the 80s-90s.  Also a bit from the industrial bands like Godflesh and Pigface.  Maybe a bit of Ronnie Montrose’s more Sci-Fi themed albums.

They might have stumbled upon some hidden studio secrets of the (not-so) Ancients.

No joking, at one of our yearly EM events, there's a Synth Duo with a Modular rig only slight smaller than the one in that video. They sound AMAZING, but you couldn't pay me to move that thing even once . . .

You couldn't pay me to bother to try to put all that to use...

It's much like collecting FX pedals, but with MUCH higher stakes . . .

Before I got the Neutron Semi-Modular, a good friend warned me, "It's not an Instrument, it's a way of life." Now, I find myself waiting for the Proton to reach my FLMS, so I can link the two together. Therein lies madness . . .

Though it appears to be of good quality and extremely engineered with a truckload of features, the example sounds in this vid here do NOTHING to make me want to try this pedal; I have to believe that it's possible that there might be some sounds that could be coaxed out of it that I might like, and want to use for myself- maybe...

Speaking of synthesis, this seems to be a CZ-101 in a pedal. As with the "guitar meets modular" video above, this is part 1 of 2. Personally, I LOVED my CZ; it was my 1st synth, and I played mine until it literally fell apart.

I'd love to have an hour or so to spend with one of those. It's not quite a CZ in a pedal - in some ways, it's more like one of Yamaha's early, so-called "FM" Synths - but it's very deep for a compact Guitar pedal.

If nothing else, the video inspired me to power up my old CZ-1 when I get in from work today.

Play it pretty for Atlantis! 😉 Enjoy.

Just curious- will that be via keys, or guitar-strings?

Keys for now, given that most of the current sound bank consists of dense SFX sounds. The CZ-series Synths are capable of some very warm, Analog-like sounds, but the Architecture really lends itself to some very strange and experimental sounds, as well.

@Dannyalcatraz- If you like this, you should keep an eye out for a (discontinued) Catalinbread Heliotrope. They described it as an "Analog Bit Crusher", although there ain't no such animal. It's more of an extreme Ring Mod.

I did, and I have.  Haven’t seen one in a while, though.  TBH, I haven’t looked in a while- so thanks for the reminder!

FWIW, those sound like this:

Keeley wants my money.  They’ve released some updated versions of some pedals, including the Bubbletron, which has moved certain controls from internal dip switches to external placement.  And then there’s this.

Yours and mine, both! I used to have an original '79/'80 Electro-Harmonix V4/V5 "IC"/"Op-Amp" Big Muff Pi, a hard act to follow- and THIS is one of the few Op-Amp Pi inspired pedals that I'd actually want.

Unexpectedly, in the various demo sample clips I've heard, I really like the 'scooped' mode the most! I would have thought that I'd be most enticed by added mids... But that scooped mode just sounds so mean...

This [SGFX Surf Rider Reverb IV] is their 4th iteration of this pedal, and they think it’s their best yet.

I got that earlier, too- and it does sound very good in the demo videos (there's another by Pete Thorn).

I love my Strymon Flint, but I must admit that I was disappointed by its " '60s Tube Spring Reverb"- though I really LOVE its other two Reverb Modes.

Listening to these demo vids of the new SFX Surf Rider IV, I think I prefer it to the spring 'verb sim of my Flint. Maybe. That would ultimately remain to be seen- ehr, heard- upon actually trying one out and comparing them directly.
