'Ain't Nobody' synth patches

Hi all,

Wanting to sound a bit more authentic with my 'Ain't Nobody' patches & wanted to know what patches others have used for this song? What was the original recording done on?

I use a Roland Fantom X-6, split, with most of the keyboard for the synth patch & the remainder for the strings patch.

Any advice and/or thoughts would be most appreciated, thanks.

Cheers,

Chris

I know that in the Korg forums we have a couple of guys that will "roll a patch" for you to cover hit songs if you ask. Maybe you should check the Roland forums and post this question there and see if you get any takers. Cool song. I with we were covering it. Good luck.

There's a patch in SampleTank that comes damn close to that intro riff (IMO)... NordiRockwell, I believe it's called. I remember playing that tune at a gig and the sound guy asked me if I sampled the intro!

Also, this is now by far and away my preferred version of the tune:

It's kind of difficult to cover since there are so many synth parts, at least in the intro. I try to go for the vibe. Whenever I try to cover a song like this, I check Youtube for live clips, that'll give you a clue to how the original artist solved the problem.

Much more important to play the 'right' parts than nail the sounds IMO. All my sounds I dialed in on my MOTIF XS and they are close enough.

Also depends on what your guitar player is doing (if anything).

I do the intro on a clav and have it split for that string line and kind of combine all the parts into one 3 or 4 part split.

Kawai C-60 Grand Piano : Hammond A-100 : Hammond SK2 : Yamaha CP4 : Yamaha Montage 7 : Moog Sub 37

Slightly OT but because none of the bands I've covered AN in were that persnickity about nailing every single part of the studio recording, nailing the signature line and funking the snot out of it was sufficient. My problem with the tune is unless we had a singer that had Chaka's chops, the end product always came off woefully anemic.

I use to cover this song playing both those synth parts and the bass too. Did it all with a 3-way split on a Yam S90ES.

Sure woulda helped to have a 3rd hand.

1935 Mason & Hamlin Model A

Korg Kronos 2 73

Nord Electro 6D 61

Yam S90ES

Rhodes Stage 73 (1972)

I'm playing the intro and most of the comping on a Rhodes patch and then adding a stock strings patch on my Juno-stage(shifted up an octave so I can comfortably play it with my left hand). Doesn't cover everything on the record but (after a fair amount of rehearsal) it now grooves quite nicely with the bass and drums. I've just aquired sampleTank actually so I might try the patch mentioned above at the next rehearsal.
