OT: Friday's Solar Flares

Has anyone had any electronics fail because of the recent Solar Flares?

I am having a bit of trouble with the firmware in my television. It has a built-in Blu-ray player that simply quit responding this morning. I have confirmed that the latest system firmware is installed in the TV. However, from the television's primary menu, I cannot reach the Blu-ray sub-menu. It shows up on the screen, but the TV will not allow me to access it. I went on-line with tech support. They could not help me. I believe the Blu-ray disc hardware is working OK. We had no problem with it a few days ago. Instead, I think it's a glitch in the firmware or other software within the television. I've tried what might be a "cold boot", but it probably is only a "warm boot" by unplugging the TV and letting it sit for 30 minutes. That didn't work. I asked the technician if there were a sequence of buttons to push while powering on the TV to guarantee a cold boot. He couldn't help. Instead, he sent me a link to where I could locate the nearest repair shop.

There is an updated firmware file specifically for the Blu-ray player. I created a CD-R and followed instructions, but the TV did not load the file when I inserted the disc. Now it won't eject it.

So I was wondering... have any of you experienced any glitches in your electronics in the past couple of days?

Tom

I KNEW it wasn't just my imagination (running away with me).

OK... just wait a little bit. Stuff's going to happen and you'll be asking yourself, "Self, didn't ITGITC? post some schtuff about solar flares the other day?"

Why YES... Yes I did. And it messed stuff up. Cell phones, televisions, GPS units... And to prove it, all over the country the clocks were wrong this morning. They lost an hour! :freak:

Yeah. :snax:

Finally, a car that will literally carry all your gear...then set it up and keep anyone from stealing it.

The only safe thing to do is wrap your head with aluminum foil.

You want me to start this song too slow or too fast?

We crossed time zones so much when I was touring that I don't know anymore if I'm younger or older.

Actually, my electronic stuff seemed to work better there days. My MEK used to hang during power-up occasionally, presumably because some interference from a wireless modem... but in the last few days, it never did it once. Go figure. :freak::D
