The Sellout All Stars

Recommended Posts

I just heard an old Chicago song on the radio, and I was grooving to Peter Cetera's bassline, and then it occurred to me what a milquetoast pop loser he later became. (A duet with Amy Grant? Puh-leeeeze.) SO I had an idea: an all-star lineup of musicians who once made their marks with great bands, really distinguishing themselves on their instruments, who later became total limp-dick "adult contemporary" singers. So far I have the rhythm section: Phil Collins on drums, Peter Cetera on bass, and Lionel Richie on keys. Any other suggestions?

You're missing the point, guys. Individual sellouts, not whole bands. Typically, people who left good bands to go and suck on their own.

Much as I hate to say it, Brian May after he played on Five's (shitty brit boyband for those of you lucky enough to live in places uninfected by their drivel) cover of one of Queen's songs. Roger Taylor did too so I guess you could count him as well. Why, why, why would they do this?!? We could have had a whip round if they were that short of cash?!?!

Kenny G. on sax. About 20 years ago, I saw the Jeff Lorber Fusion at Toad's Place in New Haven and Ken Gorlick (now know as Kenny G.) played some pretty good solos, much more like Wayne Shorter than the fairy boy stuff he plays today. And let's not forget Michael Bolton, aka Michael Boloton, when he was singing for hard rock bands in Long Island. A true sell out if there ever was one. I also agree about Peter Cetera, he was an excellent bass player and singer way back on the first several Chicago albums, it's like he's a different person now.

That IS Kevin Costner. He was in A Flock of Seagulls in the 80's, then branched into acting whilst doing the odd solo album with his backing band, the Wilting Teraflops. More details here
