Coach
Someone just shared this with me today with a note that they were going to cut off their hands. Some of you have probably seen it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azSQ_yDWmXU&feature=response_watch. Oscar Peterson performance and transcription. mcgoo
that video reminds me what I stick to rock'n roll. I've got a pretty good grasp of E, A & the other one, but that stuff Oscar was playing just makes my head spin. I also wonder if the dude / chick that transcribed the piece ever gets out of the house- that had to have taken a millennium to transcribe! timwat
Ok, yes Peterson is as close to Art Tatum as I've heard. But....who did that transcription???? I was wondering if there was a chance Peterson played that into computer via MIDI until I heard the applause at the end. ..
ProfD
OP and Gene Harris, two cats that are no longer with us, are the exact reason why I'm not a professional muso. BluMunk
Man. I could listen to Oscar Peterson play for hours (or someone copying him, I suppose). To me, he's the king of piano. Gorgeous and soulful.
Threadslayer
I thoroughly regret never making time to see him play live. My all time musical hero. Truly a genius. Joe Muscara
I'm inspired. I need to go practice. "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! MonksDream
OP and AT always have that effect on me. They make me want to both practice like crazy and give up piano entirely! Instrumentation is meaningless - a song either stands on its own merit, or it requires bells and whistles to cover its lack of adequacy, much less quality. - kanker
