  1. I take looking at the Sun just as seriously as walking while drinking before bed and eating before going into the pool . If looking at the Sun made you blind, every person on Earth would be sightless. Before you reply, don't deny you've ever looked at the Sun for less than a second.
  2. Yeah back in the day all the Gateway PCs came with it and a surprisingly powerful set of speakers. I can never get those sounds from playing the game of Hearts through those out of my head.
  3. I used it for my piano in the 90s. Could cut through the mix like no one’s business. I should pull it out and see if it still fires up.
  4. Whenever I bought a used textbook with handwritten notes in the margin, I found them to be of marginal value.
  5. Agreed. Peter was the only one in the band who *could* go solo, so it made perfect sense. And he succeeded. The fact that the rest of the band couldn't handle it was their problem. Peter, unlike Henley and Frey, is a gem of a human being.
  6. My Favorite!!! The Accordion!! The Finger Claps!! The Swooning!! The Trombone!! Hal David outdid himself on this!!
  7. This is interesting. Michael Omartian arranged and played keyboards/synths on these Peter Cetera records. The Synth strings were DX1 and Omar grimaces and shudders as to how bad they sound today. Here is Rick Beato interviewing Omar on the songs. "The Next Time I Fall", in particular, whom Omar brought in the unknown Amy Grant based on him knowing her from his background in Christian music. What a freaking Genius!!
  8. The oranges are that the featured vocalist are miming the lyrics like the Ashlee Simpson SNL Debacle.
  9. The best interview I’ve heard of Fagen is the Leo Sidran one. Fagen seems to really respect him from him and his dad’s musical background, so he really opens up. It’s lengthy. Also, Leo has a nice technique of asking him to clarify quite a few of his comments. He also follows up with good insights that he bounces off Donald for confirmation or clarification. Regarding Becker’s chattiness, I think this speaks to the (my) observation that he was the more witty, cynical, sarcastic, ironic, etc, etc of the two. In the Shaffer interview Donald commented that by and large he would come up with the musical idea, and Walter would help fill it out and then provide the lyrics. And you can see that in his solo records’ lyrics, which are much more self reflective than the Dan. I believe those taxi passengers were heavily curated.
  10. The youtube guy really didn't even really need to spend more than a minute on the analysis to prove that it's tracks -- Vocal performances are nearly impossible to replicate. Funny story -- Donald Fagen spent weeks and weeks of studio time day in and day out to satisfactorily double track the 2 second line "Well the..." on 'Home At Last' for the Aja Album to the point the record company wanted to shut him down for being completely out of his mind. I think there was a thread recently on this.
  11. Here in Iowa we'll have a decent partial, but I'm tempted to charter a Lear jet up to Nova Scotia.
  12. Did you see Henley in court? The idea that he can still perform is ludicrous. He looked and sounded worse than a combination of Uncle Fester and Grandpa.
  13. Congratulations, and looks like a good solution. My gut feel is that you're going to need the amplifier, even if just as a moderate boosting transducer to fill up the room. My experience with built in speakers (Yamaha P250, CP300) is that they are great for the player in a quiet room. But in a larger room with people, the internal speaker suddenly gets lost in an infinite background of room ambience. Maybe if everyone is quiet enough during the playing it will be ok. It will be interesting if you can let us know your findings on this after the wedding.
  14. He’s been able to vote for a long time. CA doesn’t require any voter ID.
  15. Once played with a jazz drummer that was described as ‘washing the dishes’ (both visually and sonically).
  16. Happy Birthday Dave! Wishing you the best!!
  17. Iowa Was crazy! Blizzard and 3in accumulation in the morning, warming to the mid 40s and melting off by afternoon. Today was Gusting to 50mph with a high temp of 53F. We are used to that though. Many years have university classed are cancelled returning from Easter weekend. We’re not out of the woods until June 6 or so.
  18. I’m going to do my best to see one the last shows on the tour in Minneapolis, just a three hour drive north.
  19. Yeah, Vai shouts up to his Tech asking what his new Guitar Synth is: "GM800". (IIRC) An interesting part of the interview is Adrian embraces Facebook and interacting with fans, while Steve Vai was shaking his head "NO!!!!!". Steve is 1000x more recognized as Adrien, so he gets thousands of crazy messages from psychopaths per day. Some amount of obscurity is advantageous. A guy like Adrian Belew isn't going to have a bunch of crazy people --- typically the only way you know about him is as a fan!
  20. With the blessing of Fripp. Called "Beat" (Fripp suggested it over Management's original title). Maybe we an entice our friend Grey back in on this positive note (although I may be behind in the news of this). Adrian isn't sure how he will recreate the guitar sounds for the tour since he's forgotten and also doesn't have the gear anymore. Great interview and stories. Massive fan since Zappa, Talking Heads, KC, and so on!!! Adrian's Guitar sounds
  21. Topic Was Adrian Belew is reconstructing 80's King Crimson, with the blessing of Fripp. Called "Beat" (Fripp suggested it over Management's original title). Modified this thread to the David Cross band in favor of KK's recommendation. -- see below. I'll set up a separate thread on Adrian's Beat Band.
  22. This made me want something like this. I can put my OB6 on the C7 though.
  23. I got the “Plays like he’s double parked” as kind of specific insult that I had to think about. He plays out front and is both oblivious and uncaring as to what the rest of the band is doing.
