  1. In Santa Barbara County, all bars and restaurants have been ordered closed by the county health officer. Restaurants can serve take out. The libraries are closed, as well as the schools. Everyone is getting gigs cancelled. Bad scene.
  2. Isopropyl alcohol can cause cracking in plastics. Might as well use hot water and a little bleach on a washcloth on the keys.
  3. The answer is no. Trying that might turn your synth into a brick. To update to the latest firmware (3.X.X) from versions 2.XX and before,, you must first install 'bootloader' software. The firmware and software are available for download from Moog Music"s website. Search the thread in the post above for 'bootloader' and you should find the info you need. It"s easier than it sounds. Good luck. The downloads you need are found on the Moog site under 'Legacy Products.'
  4. You need a product made to prevent UV damage. FORMULA 303 protectant is available at marine and auto supply stores. Best I"ve tried.
  5. I may have posted this before, but my experience with the boom mic attachment was that playing piano caused audible noise through the connected microphone when I hit the keys.
  6. I"ve done this by hand using heavy paper and laminating it after printing the names of the functions on it. Pretty low tech, but got the job done.
  7. I"ve used silicon divers" grease, made for scuba fittings and widely used in airguns, like pellet or BB guns.
  8. While there are some great self-taught musicians, too many are simply 'untaught,' and would benefit a lot from some formal instruction.
  9. Don"t get a guitar amp. For stereo get as similar a bass amp as you can find used to try out the sound. Bass amps are really full frequency amps. A Harte B600 would be perfect if you can find one used, they don"t make them anymore, but probably something like it if you want new. Good luck.
  10. What are you doing with it? I ask because I have a bunch of gear I don"t need anymore and also want to be rid of it. Don"t want to just give it away to whoever though. Thanks and good luck.
  11. Essential oil diffuser time? Post here if youre brave enough to try it. Probably voids the warranty on your lungs though.
  12. My piano tech, who Ive known for thirty years, is blind, uses a tuning fork and rubber and felt dampers. The Kawai sounds oh so sweet when hes finished. About time to call him again, come to think of it..
  13. My late great nineteen year old dog would not stay in the room when I played piano. My two younger dogs lie down under the piano if theyre around when I play. I notice if I leave the windows open, birds start singing along. All true. No organ (clonewheel) data. Different room, door usually closed and not a lot of places to lie down.
  14. Yes, you are right, David. I was confusing the interchangeable parts between the Apex and the AX48. Sorry.
  15. AX48 hardware is mostly interchangeable with AX90: support arms, locking flange, etc. The AX48 stand fits on the AX 90 the same way it fits on the AX 48. Substitute the locking flange on the side of the support where the arms fit.
  16. I using the mic adaptor, I found that the noise of striking the keys came through the microphone.
  17. The Standtastic is all steel and much more secure than most A frames. Good luck with your choice.
  18. For studio use, the Standtastic cant be beat. Heavy, but more adjustable and more stable than the Apex.
  19. The two sides of the side firing are 180 degrees out of phase. No question. It is what creates the 3D effect. This is way different from stereo in my opinion. I use mine exclusively as a stage monitor or practice amp. I send stereo to FOH from a second set of mixer outputs. If youre concerned about the size of the sweet spot, place your speakers at the extreme sides of the stage and angle them in 20 or 30 degrees.
  20. Seriously? Nord Lead. Modulate the hard sync with one of the envelope generators: ADSR.
  21. A post of Aspen's on page 6 of this thread seems to confirm that both the front speaker and the sub out are L+R summed mono.
  22. Does the front speaker just sum the L and R into mono, or does it only reproduce the content common to both channels? I thought it was the latter, which is my understanding of how MS recordings are made.
  23. No. Well, kind of. Others may know more about this than me, but my understanding of the way the 3D effect is produced and based on using the SS3 with the Nord Electro 4 and 5 simulations is this: Assuming no reverb or other sounds in the mix, if you were facing the simulated rotating speaker driver and it was "pointed" directly at you, the SS3's front speaker (only) would be making sound. If the driver then rotated to your left, the SS3 side speaker would begin sounding, positive phase out one side, negative phase out the other. As the driver rotates to the rear, the SS3 front speaker takes over. As it rotates to the right, the SS3 side speaker takes over again, this time with the phase polarity reversed. So, that's what it sounds like to me, and explained based on what I have read in this thread. If you A/B'd it with a Leslie, there would be a big difference. If you A/B'd it with two stereo speakers, there would be a different difference. In this thread, there are YouTube links to demonstrations of the amp, but they may be either stereo recordings of the SS3 in a room or close-mic'ed mid-side recordings. You really have to hear one.
