  1. OP here. Well, they were all pretty cool about it and we ended up booking some hours at this place in Ventura: https://www.megasoundstudios.com/ Which looks pretty good if we mask up and use maximum spread out. I"m either going to load in and out first or last to avoid proximity. This is my first get together with most of the band, so I"ll observe the precautions carefully. I"ve got an N95 mask or two, so I"ll wash up and put one on if I feel the need. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and advice. Much appreciated. Like many, I"m making it up as I go along.
  2. I texted the group after speaking on the phone with the drummer. Told them my reasons for not wanting to be playing in a small room. Offered to contribute to renting a larger rehearsal space. Then I tried to find one nearby and all the usual places weren"t running their Craigslist ads. So no small studio playing for me. Next task: find adequately-sized rehearsal space nearby.
  3. These spacecraft always have such high ceilings though, don"t they? Could save some money there.
  4. I appreciate hearing everyone"s thoughts. Since January, I have lost thirty pounds, have been stationary biking 36 minutes every day and the follow-up CT scan showed that the clot in my lung had dissolved or been absorbed. Still not a guarantee it won"t happen again, and it"s no fun let me tell you. In December, I went on an airplane trip to Florida and back without doing any walking during the trip. Don"t do that if you"re on a long airplane trip. OK. Everything above makes perfect sense and I know how I must proceed. It is tough passing up chances to play, and these guys have recently played a couple of outdoor, festival type gigs. I know the drummer pretty well and he is great to play with. Outdoor rehearsal space is unheard of around here (near Santa Barbara) unless you know someone really well with a ranch or other ag operation. I"ll let you know if we"re able to work around this situation. Thanks again.
  5. Thanks, seems to be unanimous. If you"re still reading, how big? I"m thinking I would probably feel comfortable with everyone masked and spaced as far as possible in a two-car garage sized space, say 15 by 20". Comments?
  6. I"ve been asked to join/rehearse with four other guys in an existing blues band. They want to rehearse next weekend in what is basically a one-car garage-sized space. 10" by 15" maximum size, with drums permanently set up at one end. I am 64 and had a pulmonary embolism last January. Am I wrong to be concerned about using so small a space to rehearse a five-piece band? Pretty sure the singers will not be wearing masks. Thanks.
  7. See if this link helpS http://keyboardservice.com/Drawbars.asp Or google 'drawbar settings.' Use your ears and add or subtract one drawbar at a time. Visit Hammond organ sites or fan sites. Good luck and have fun.
  8. I"m very happy for you, man. Nothing is as stressful as uncertainty. Best wishes.
  9. Nothing to add, except that life is short and you should surround yourself with the most positive people you can find. But you already know that.
  10. Am I the only one who believes canned air should never ever be shot into a closed keyboard? Just pushes the dust and debris around into the smallest nooks and crannies, IMHO.
  11. There"s noise. Turn the volume down and play your keys while the mic is on. I use an old Atlas with a heavy but flat metal base, with a boom from whichever side is convenient for the sound person.
  12. My first electric keyboard was a black Kustom organ, which was integral with the amp and speakers. http://www.combo-organ.com/Kustom/index.htm
  13. Did the same as DelDave when we installed the wood floor. Cut the carpet away around the piano, then after half the wood was installed, pivoted it twice onto the 6"2'. Those tri-steel dollies Reezekeys posted looked handy to have around. Best of luck and let us know if you find a tuner who"s working!
  14. Ask your attorney if maybe he should be the one whose name is on the go fund me.
  15. You all may laugh, but my go-to amps for this application are Hartke 12' Kickbacks (KB12). The latest one is the best so far. It has a '500 watt peak 250 RMS' amp that can be removed easily to drive a 15' cab if you need to use it That way. A little pricey, and now made by Samson I think, but can"t be beat for what it is: a hybrid aluminum-coned 12' speaker driver driven by a 500/250 watt amp with tone controls. Just right for grab and go mono, and works a charm for more lows with my QSC K8.2s or my Spacestation SS3. I just got an open box KB12 from Sam Ash for $380. New, they"re closer to $500. Built rock solid. Some fan noise. And it has an XLR output, +9dB, so no direct box needed.
  16. Brick Houseâtoo many repetitions of a repetitive song. Eminence Frontâbass player refused to play a sustained note on the one, even with the drummer and me urging him to just listen to the record. Rant over, carry on.
  17. For cleaning, warm water and terry cloth. Then your favorite automotive spray wax, applied to a cloth lightly then wipe.
  18. PDF manuals are easily searchable and you can carry a hundred of them in your tablet. Terribly inconvenient.
  19. After over fifty years, Moog has produced the Moog One.
  20. I know right? If someone wants it, I can assist with getting it to a UPS store for packing and shipping.
  21. I started with my piano teacher at age 9. He was getting me work solo and with with bands When I was 16. That was 1972.
  22. Wish I could. Hope someone here can take advantage. It"s in my town. https://santabarbara.craigslist.org/msg/d/carpinteria-hammond-all-tube-design/7121834472.html
  23. Definitely the right decision for all the reasons stated above. I have the same situation with my daughter, who mostly works from home, but still goes to the gallery where she works from time to time. It"s hard being apart, but would be harder on everyone if someone got the virus. I too am at high risk, and my wife and I are over 60.
  24. Everyone"s a little excitable and not quite on their game lately. Give it one more sincere try to pay the guy for the work he did and the products you need. It"s not normal times. Clearly the repair guy was disrespectful, rude and generally inappropriate. Try a little tenderness. If it works, it will save you time and money. If it doesn"t, you"re out fifteen minutes. Just my thoughts. Good luck whatever you decide.
