Korg M1 - famous song riffs put a smile on my face
jyrkik replied to 16251's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Well, check out this group from Finland: -
Bought the vinyl LP yesterday and had a listen late last night. Somewhat mixed feelings so far as the genre is almost more like spoken word than classic rock. And as Gilmour has also said himself, it`s as much his partner Polly`s album as his. She has written most of the lyrics. Righard Wright appears on one track by the way. It must hence be based on some recording from the past. Not a bad record, but no obvious hits either. J

Mojo Classic is indeed a nice package. But using it as a controller is somewhat limited. I find it particularly annoying that the sustain pedal remains to transmit in the lower manual organ midi channel (2 by default, I recall) even if you set the manual to external mode. The note data is then sent in ch 5, but the sustain pedal in ch 2. Not optimum for, say, playing some ep sound. And yes, you can usually map this in the external device, but it is still annoying. Yamaha CP88 and 73 - Deserve their own thread
jyrkik replied to ElmerJFudd's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Hi, I wonder if anyone has faced any problems with those shiny metallic toggle switches in the CP/YC front panel? Some time ago I ordered a YC73 and have to say that for many ways it would have been a good fit for my needs. But those switches, they were very wobbly already in that brand new instrument. And having them in the front panel seemed to be a request for troubles.. So, after some reasoning back and forth, I returned the instrument. Just could not trust that it would have been robust like for example my Nord Stages (1...3) have been. J -
In my opinion, it`s kind of silly to complain about the prices of his kind of merchandise. The seller can always define his price and customer can only decide to buy or pass. Perhaps if it would be a question of necessity item like bread or beer, but it`s not. If one cannot digest the price, go with some other brand. This is no charity business. Personally I think that I`ll also stick with my Stage 3 for the foreseen future. But if the 4 had clear improvements in organ and epiano tone area I`d be ready to pay the asking price. Unfortunately any other available option doesn`t do it either because I`m already so used to the single (carry) package of usably good pianos, epianos, organ and knobby synth. Every other option would mean at least two boards and/or flirting with SW instruments. Kurzweil would perhaps be close, but the organ... and how`s the K`s knobby synth? Recently I purchased an YC73 as a potential contender. The organ was good as were the pianos. But it would have needed some kind of supporting synth device. Unfortunately the external controller features appeared to be very unwieldy. Hence, back to the shop went the YC. Jyrki

I wonder if these MIDI port settings can be part of the live sets? Changing between port 1/port 2 setting by changing the live set preset.. this would make usage of an external keyboard and iPad really flexible. J

That's a good point. However, currently the YC73 seems to be next to impossible to find anywhere here in europe. But I'm in no hurry and should perhaps just wait until can find one. J

That looks promising.. exactly what I was looking for. And once again a good reminder of RTFM.. Jyrki

Basically I'm just looking for to be able to play the Ipad instrument with an external keyboard, but route the external keyboard midi via CP73 to the ipad in order to store the setups in the CP as live sets. I hope this makes sense... Of course I could always connect the external keyboard directly to the ipad, but that would most likely mean that I would loose the convenience of single usb cable connection between the ipad and CP. And In this kind of setup I could not play the Ipad with CP keyboard at all.

Hi, There's lots of informative discussion about Yamaha CP73 here and even the brilliant interactive review, but I didn't find this specific information anywhere there. Perhaps someone can advice. So, here's the question: If an Ipad or some other sound module is connected to either the usb or midi out port of the CP, is it possible to control it with an external keyboard connected to the midi in? I quess this feature is elsewhere called sw midi thru. The thing is, as my playing has recently become more and more rhodes centric, I'm thinking the CP73 would be a good all arounder board for me. I've tried it out several times and the somewhat compromised keyboard feels quite ok. Still, it would be nice to accasionally add some outboard sounds, thinking for example B3x here, but the 73 keys just feel a bit cramped. The 88 model is too heavy.

Does Kontakt Player already work ok with Apple M1?

Cannot argue about the volume pedal vrs. Hammond expression behaviour. However, it's a fact that there are two different "standards" of "sweeping type" pedal wiring. And the difference of them lies in the tip/ring connections. Othetwise there's really no other circuitry inside these pedals, just a potentiometer. If you have pedal response problems, this is something worth trying. Jyrki

I use the FV500 with Mojo Classic Suitcase. To make the combination work properly you need to modify the connection/plug ( or make an adapter like I did) by swapping the tip and ring wires. Without this modification the response is, shall I say, odd. Still I admit the FV500 mechanical movement range is a bit short for organ expression use. But this is a matter of personal preference of course and I'm fine with it. The old Korg expression pedal I used earlier was ok without any modification. Unfortunately it wasn't too robust and did eventually brake down mechanically. Jyrki

It is a war regardles of techical or what ever measures. 2.5 milion have left their home country already and refugees are coming to Finland too. Perhaps political, but no, any synth does not matter. J

Oh my, I`m not sure if I can fully follow you guys - not a native english speaker after all, but.. This is not the first time when using some common engineering jargon in non-engineering context does cause amusement. But it actually works the other way around too - using muso jargon in engineering circles does usually rise some eyebrows too;) Jyrki
