  1. No. I don't think I have ever been to a live show or played a live gig where there was not already too much bass. Unless the keys player is holding down the bass parts, I always roll off below 120Hz. Otherwise, mud for miles... and days.
  2. What methods or apps are you using for keeping track of your music charts when playing with a band? What do you do when you have a note-for-note solo you want to keep track of? Do you notate the music separate from you chord charts (e.g., OnSong, iReal, etc.) or just memorize, or do you use something that can do everything - lyrics, notes, chords? I have mostly been memorizing note-for-note stuff when needed and then using a basic chord chart for song structure. Wondering if there is anything more interesting out there.
  3. My Jupiter X arrived a couple days ago. Its updated to 3.0. All I can say is that I love this keyboard! It sounds good, looks good and feels good. So much fun!
  4. Dang! I really want a 145 or 147 but can't seem to find one here in CO.
  5. That makes a lot of sense. I don't plan to use this one for gigging. I just could not pass up on the looks. Total eye candy decision this time...and the sound. No logic used at all in this decision to buy. Maybe this is my midlife crisis keyboard
  6. I'm not sure about the Mobius replicating those sounds. I don't think so, but not sure. The Zelzah is the best phasor fx unit I have ever heard. It is super fun.
  7. That is interesting. I did not think about the Fantom, but I can see your point. The Fantom is probably a much more versatile keyboard. However, like you I really like how the Jupiter X looks. The Jupiter 8 was the best looking synth ever, imo.
  8. Strymon Timeline is still a winner in my book. The newer Strymon Zelzah is also pretty amazing with both keys and guitar.
  9. They are still inferior to more current Yamaha grands, imho
  10. I was surprised to see their revenue is over $100million. People must still be buying pianos.
  11. Thanks for the feedback. It has been a long time since I have owned a Roland keyboard. I'm hoping this one will not disappoint. I sure like how it looks Do you use it for any gigs?
  12. Anyone else excited about the Roland Jupiter X? After trying hard not to want one, I broke down and ordered one the other day. Has not arrived yet, but I am really excited! Maybe it is because my first synth as a teen was a Roland, but I like everything I hear about it....so far Anyone else have one? Love it? Hate it? Use it for anything? It sure was hard to find one to buy.
  13. I should have kept that Roland D-50
  14. Great synths keep coming out or getting announced. I keep talking myself out of one in order to wait for the next cool thing, so I end up buying nothing. I suppose that is a good thing. Too many options these days....and too much price inflation! I sure like the OB sound.
  15. Most useful: NS3 Compact Most loved: Yamaha S7x grand piano Most fun: Hammond XK5 w/ 3300 Favorite synth: Prophet 6
  16. I have not had any issues with my YC73 and fast repeated notes. I have only had it for a week, so I will check more carefully tonight. So far, I really like this keyboard.
  17. I never liked the QSCs for piano sounds at band volumes. Like you guys have stated, "honky" sounding. I sold my K10s a long time ago. I do like my Yamaha DXR10s at any volume. There is a louder noise floor when using DI and mic inputs, but it is not noticeable when playing with a band. I would like to get my hands on the EV ZXA1s after reading the posts on this thread. Thanks for the video Tommy!
  18. I should have probably known this before purchasing, but I just learned about the built in audio interface on the YC-73! I connected my laptop via usb to YC-73 and immediately have access to Omnisphere and all my software instruments in addition to the YC sounds. This simplifies a setup and is great! I still prefer the playability/sound of the NS3 for organ, but the YC-73 (bottom) and NS3-compact (top) with an optional iPad or laptop is a nice compact rig indeed. Running it all through 2 DXR-10 monitors.
  19. I just purchased a YC-73 over the weekend. I already have a NS3 compact, but wanted a second keyboard with different action to pair with it when I am not hauling the XK5. I also like the Rhodes/Wurli/Clav sounds on the YC. I'm still trying to get used to the organ sound on the YC. I'm still not sure I like it any better than the NS3 and it is not at the level of the XK5, but I do think it is much better than most anything in similar keyboards. I find that aggressive adjustments on the EQ and FX/compression, etc., can really make sounds shine in any context. Also, I really like the Yamaha pianos.
  20. Sweet! I have a newer 4-piece instrumental group playing similar music. A lot of room to stretch out on keys. We play a lot of Scofield, MWW, Meters, etc., with some originals mixed in. It is super fun. I am terrible with band names, so I can't help with that.
  21. Absolutely brilliant! Thanks for posting. Having a lot of laughs around the office with these.
  22. No How much can you really learn from someone who's giant ego is always out in front of his playing. Watch some Mike Finnegan videos on youtube for free and see how Hammond Blues should be played. Spot on. But I thought it might just be a touch of hyperactivity. Regardless, I just can't enjoy the playing with so many exaggerated distractions. I guess I prefer a more stoic player However, I suppose do dig the style of John Medeski. I would pay $500 for his course...if it existed.
  23. Very nice playing! Nice sound. I will pack any keyboard that inspires me to play more and better. Again, very nice playing.
