  1. Sounds like someone is out of new ideas. I could not listen past the first 20 seconds. However, I would listen to new Peter Gabriel from that era! In fairness, I do think Mayer is a very talented musician and an amazing guitar payer. But...this specific song is boring.
  2. Anyone mention Aerosmith - Sweet Emotion yet? So many good ones already mentioned. Love it! And there is also The Chicken
  3. Don"t forget the passive aggressive ones that always insists on placing others into groups or categories while injecting false generalizations about said group"s position on a topic. One complete db...above the noise floor.
  4. I did not connect "authoritarian" to the government. You did. After all, political discussion is not allowed on this forum. I only meant to imply that some rules will only end when people refuse to comply. Sheesh, quite trying to drag me into a political debate My new Yoda quote is "Play masked, or do not play masked..."
  5. Perhaps you're talking about a different thread. In this thread, the issue is whether Montunoman voluntarily takes a gig where he's required to wear a mask as a public service message. That's not authoritarianism, that's showbiz. I am genuinely and un-ironically curious what the music of anti-masker revolutionaries would sound like. Maybe Ted Nugent transposed to the 20's? I will type slower....No. Don't take the gig.
  6. As I mentioned in a another thread, considering the collective of intelligence of my KC brethren, we can do better in terms of making non-political responses. I did not think my post was political. Maybe historical or philisophical, but not political. I don't believe I promoted anything political or any political party or agenda. Seems all too easy to reply with a label (e.g., political, religious, etc.) in order to discount something. However, I don't have a dog in the fight so I sincerely apologize for straying outside your lane. To be even more direct about the original gig question - you should tell the event organizers to go pound sand. Just my non-political opinion, however.
  7. It has become ridiculous, imo. Wearing a mask outdoors is certainly NOT science. The only way mask mandates/rules will end is when people refuse to comply. Unfortunately, that is just the way it is when dealing with authoritarian control over large populations of people. Seems there should be a music revolution popping up around this sometime soon
  8. You have a number of modern options: - Get the soft synths based on the "Analog Circuit Behaviour" tech. Jupiter-8, JUNO-106, JUNO-60, SH-101, JX-3P. From what I've heard most are nigh indistinguishable from the originals, maybe with the exception of the Jupiter. - Get the System 8 that can run those in hardware. - Get the soft synths based on the Zen-Core engine. These cut some corners in authenticity to enable higher polyphony, so they don't sound as close. - Get the FANTOM or the Jupiter-X that can run those in hardware. Honestly, I did not know much about the Roland plugout features of System 8. Thanks for the tips. I has certainly taken me down a YouTube video journey.
  9. Thanks ProfD! I did not know about the Summit. I'm going to check it out. Thanks for the tip!
  10. Sorry about the title. I could not help it So, I regret selling my Prophet 6 synth over a year ago. I'm thinking about getting another one (too bad prices are higher now). However, I can't help but look at all the other analog and virtual analogue polysynths out there and want all of them. If you could have only one modern (ie., available to purchase new, not the vintage ones) polysynth, what would you like? I'm not really up-to-date on it, but it seems like Dave Smith/Sequential has nailed recreations of the vintage synths in the Prophet and Oberheim department. Is the vintage Roland sound (e.g., Juno 6, Jupiter 8, etc.) still only available from the vintage synths?
  11. Axel F! Had to get a synth after working that out on piano. I was 14years old and Roland D-20 was my first synth. No, I don't have that synth anymore I had worked other things out by ear at younger age, but nothing that made me want to buy a new instrument until Axel F.
  12. That is a reasonable idea, but if other places are similar to Denver, then there is an entire segment of the music scene that does not solicit via craigslist. That segment is often the part with the better musicians, imho. Not sure if that applies to other cities.
  13. Mike - That is where I lived prior to moving to Lone Tree! Small world. I enjoyed the music scene in the Boulder/Longmont area. Played in some good bands with a lot of music variety.
  14. Thanks Tim! That is a really interesting insight into your area. How long did it take you to build up a network of musicians you like playing with? Or, do you primarily play solo gigs?
  15. What do you like about being a keyboard player in Hammond, Indiana?
  16. Maybe I am trying to be a little more specific. Do these places have something unique about the music scene? Is there an emphasis on specific genres or venues? What is the scene like (or was it like pre-covid) where you live? Like I said, my area now seems to be dominated by classic rock cover bands. Anyone live in an area where that is not the case?
  17. Actually, I don't see any reason to restrict this to the US. How about worldwide?
  18. I'm curious to hear your opinions/experiences about which US cities, or areas, have the most interesting music scenes and cultures for a keyboard player (assuming you want to play music with others). For example, I live just south of Denver, but until a few years ago I lived in the Boulder area. The music scene was much more diverse in the Boulder area compared to where I am now. On this end of the front range there seems to be a large emphasis on classic rock cover bands. I also miss the bluegrass culture that existed up near the Boulder/Lyons area. It is easy for me to assume that places like Nashville, etc., are top on the list, but I don't want to make any assumptions here. It will also be interesting to see how, or if, the past pandemic year changes the music scene in cities/areas. Let's say a person (keyboard player) was looking to choose a place to live based on the music scene. What would you choose?
  19. Just received my first dose of Pfizer. Finally, all those strange time signatures make sense
  20. I have been learning guitar for the past 5-6 years. Sometimes I go through months without working on it, but it is rewarding. I especially like bluegrass flat picking and playing that music with another person. I also like to play electric guitar. The only downside is that I also like to buy guitars and amps, so that has cut deeply into my keyboard budget. For some reason, a guitar made from real wood seems so much cooler than a plastic/metal keyboard. Learning guitar has really opened my eyes to some new perspectives when playing keys in a band with guitar players. I love it!
  21. I'm running the latest Catalina on my iMac. No problems with Logic Pro, and a ton of software synths and sample libraries. I also use a UAD Apollo interface. In another 6 months I will make the jump to Big Sur. I tend to stay about 12 months behind the latest OS release. My iMac is fairly new - early 2020 I think.
  22. I'm using a NS3C with a SL88 Grand controller. I must admit I also have an Hammond XK5 (A3 system), but I generally only use that for rehearsals at home studio. When I want super light and easy, I just take the NS3C. When I need two keyboard with an 88 key piano, I use the NS3C with the SL88 Grand. When I want to have it all (and hurt my back) I take everything and the Moog! Mainly, I want the option to take one very light keyboard (i.e., NS3C) that will cover everything needed well enough.
