  1. Yes, I was considering a new Mac anyway but definitely want to salvage what I already have. I didn’t know about the “flexgate” phenomena but will definitely look into having it repaired through one of the sources you suggested.

  2. I was told by the geek (seem like a pretty authentic nice guy) that the ribbon connection, whatever that is was corrupted and they were not authorized to repair it, it would have to go to Apple. He looked it up and showed me that it would cost almost $700 to fix. He did the flashlight thing to check and he said he could see something but very faint.
I was thinking of getting a new MacBook Pro anyway so I opted to get a new one and will definitely look into a DIY job on the old one.
situations like this make me wanna not do MS and just go with hardware.

  3. MBP year is 2016 and yes I’ve checked the cords. All that appears is the touchbar and the little icons next to it but the screen itself is as black as midnight.
I was looking it up didn’t see anything about the battery going bad but I’ll definitely check that. I’m thinking maybe it’s time for a new one…

  4. AnotherScott,

That's a great idea! Yes, the problem with the second tier is my On Stage X-Stand doesn't allow for bottom board panel depth so I'm pulling the YC out to the edge & the augmented height (with the second board, iPad & mic boom attachments) blocks my view of the band.  The Hercules looks like maybe it could be a possible solution, the advantage of the On Stage is it has the iPad & boom attachments. It's an old stand so may be time for a fresh one. If the Hercules has iPad & boom accessories that may be a viable solution.

  5. If there was a rack mount version of the Forte or Kronos I'd lap that up in a heartbeat, to me the I7 take on acoustic is right up there. I primarily do corporate but sometimes clubs & the cover bands I work with aim at the "older demographic " (follow the money) so I need big band brass, strings & symphonic, oboe, ect... the real estate is not always there for my set up so a more compact set up is the way to go. I've done multi tier for years but I'm older now & want a lean mean rig that's easily set up / tear down.

  6. SF, I'm trying to get away from the "gigging two board set up" while still maintaining the integrity of the sound (pun intended) that's why I'm looking at the module / main board set up. I really like the YC88 as my main board & actually have a FA-06 & a MODX6, both decent lightweight options but that's what I'm trying to sail away from.

I also use the Korg Kronos for cover & while the sounds are arguably still the best in the biz it's heavy for regular gigging, hammer action is stiff and the APs, Eps & organ are way behind the YC88 IMHO. I guess what I'm saying is I found good hand to key connection in the YC so I want to work with that but yes, the FA-06 (I know you talking about the latest generation of Fantom) has excellent sounds that are taken from the I7.

  7. Thanks for the great responses... I only plan on using the I7 for "other" sounds, especially orchestral & brass. The YC has the piano & organ  sounds covered & the "touch" action is just what I want. You convinced me, the I7 it is. Now, to find a space on top of the YC for it. ;)

  8. I'll admit the I7 sounds are a bit dated but in the heat of the live gig I don't see that as an issue. The SN palette is still a viable resource & mixed with the awesome YC88 should be a powerful yet concise set up not having to set up a second board. Still not sure where to place it.

  9. I want to add more "other" sounds to the YC88 (love the APs, EPs & the great updated organ) and really don't want to lug a second board to the gigs. VSTs are a definite option but I had a bad experience with the" Laptop / MainStage dance" years back so hesitant to do that. I tried the Integra 7 years ago & was impressed (of course that could just be nice selective memories kicking in) and was thinking of pairing the two. Other than the size of a rack mount sitting on or around the YC88 is the I7 worth the effort?

Or should the effort go into the "dance" again? Apologize in advance if this has been asked before, trying to find the least hassle / compact rig possible.

    Thanks

  10. Love the action on the YC88 & pair it with the MODX6 which is great but then you're in the "two board" zone.  So for more of a "quickie set up / tear down" I use the Kronos which covers everything but is weighty & the AP action isn't as good as the YC. I know, picky picky picky.

  11. Hammer action & piano sound is all subjective of course but for gigs that mainly focus on APs / EPs the Yamaha YC88 has very good action & the CFX is great especially when you are in a band situation. Also has "other" sounds that aren't great but enough to get through the gig.

Weight is 40 lbs, light enough yet full 88 to bring to gigs... IMHO
