Same here, the speaker itself retains custom eq settings, but the app doesn't read it and always starts from flat eq.

You have to save the setting before closing the app if you don't want to lose it. Unfortunately I don't think there is a way to export or share eq settings to another phone or tablet, which is inconvenient

Thanks for confirming this.  What I didn't realize is that the settings are saved in the hardware.  That means I don't need to reload the setting each time, which is what I was thinking.

  2. Hey, if one of you could try a test for me with the Alto TS408.

I am using the app to alter the EQ of the speaker.  It seems to work reliably, but forgets the setting when the unit is turned off.  When reconnecting to the speaker from the app after power cycle, it always reads flat again when using my custom EQ.

If someone could confirm this, it would be helpful, thanks-

    1000 W RMS ... 2000W Peak !

It´s class-D "show up" rating anyway.

No single 8", 10", 12" or even 15"/ 18" speaker´s voicecoil can handle such power,- a 1.4" horn driver less than ever.

I guess  it´s 1000W RMS into 2 ohms rating, 500 into 4, 250 into 8 ohms,- and the woofer is always an 8 ohms device.

The horn driver might be 16 Ohms and DSP limiter protected.

Nonetheless, Altos sound usually really good for the money !

OTOH, some Thomann customers report a very audible amp-noise/hiss across the entire range of TS4 speakers which seems to be annoying at low level music or between songs.

Dunno if it´s true, but worth to mention IMO.

    :)

I just purchased a pair of these and tested them yesterday.  Didn't notice any unusual noise floor at all-

  4. Artificial Intelligence is not intelligent. It cannot really "create" anything. The algorithms are programmed by human beings with millions of if/then statements. AI will never replace real musicians.

I ended up getting a square drawstring canvas duffel bag from an Army Navy store...very durable and once you get the routine down (which involves your knees and one of your feet), it's a lightning-quick set-up.

Once a month or so you'll see them on Reverb or Ebay or Craigslist/Onecraigs. Pounce when you do!

I still have one of the original bags from the two Invisible stands I bought.  It is still in brand new condition!

  6. Back in my touring days, I had a Yamaha CP-70 and a Prophet 5.  Those two went all over the pacific northwest, Canada and Hawaii.  That was about $8k in 1985 dollars, not counting the playback gear.  Now for my local gigs, I use a Nord Stag 3 and Wave 2, about $7k in 2020 dollars, but much much lighter!  I would never think of using less quality (or less expensive, if you will) keyboards for gigging, I always want to have the best sounding and most reliable boards.

Just talked to my rep at Sweetwater. These items are backordered with K&M and it could be months before I receive them! Glad I have an X stand I can use in the meantime.

Amazon shows 2-3 weeks delivery for the 18880 and the 18881 stacker is available now-

So I have the Baby Spider Pro, looking to add a second tier...does anybody have a pic of theirs with second tier? I want to see how bad the "folding issue" is...maybe i can DIY some sort of strap to tie it up when folding it. How much larger is the Spider Pro than the Baby Spider? Also, maybe i can DIY and cut the  second arm down to size a little to fit in when folded? I only need it to fit a DJ controller, not a full sized keyboard.

I just removed the extensions from the top arms (upper board was not wide) and took the arms off completely when I stored the stand it the case.  Then I slid the sleeve down to secure the bottom arms and locked it.  The two top arms take up very little room in the case when removed.

I’m covered for 30K by MusicPro insurance. My premium is less than 10%of that, and I don’t have every item covered. If the house burns down I know I’m not hand carrying a B-3  and a pair of 122’s on my back………..

I have had separate music gear insurance forever.  It was necessary when we were touring, and now it gives me peace of mind for the gigs I do now.  MusicPro covers full replacement value, been using them as well now for many years.  It is reasonably priced and easy to update and amend your list of covered gear.

The phone number for Elderly Instruments in Lansing, Michigan is 517-372-7880.  They would be able to give you plenty of information.

Thanks, I will give them a call-

  11. I came into possession of a guitar made by a luthier named Bruce Herron.  He hails from Michigan, but I don't believe he makes instruments any more.  Internet information shows he made electric mandolins (Mandoblaster) and Tele-like guitars (Psychocaster).  The only dealer that seemed to carry his stuff was Elderly Instruments. The guitar has a great maple neck, nice hardware, and a very unusual white pearlescent finish.

Anyone ever heard of this guy or have any information on his instruments?

    Thanks a lot-

Regarding Song Mode...I am sure I remember someone posting that it was less of a detriment than people thought because of some other feature that functioned as a replacement for it. I have looked twice now and can't find the comment. Does anyone remember seeing this, either here or on the Nord Forums? Or more important I guess, does anyone know of or use a workaround for this issue?

Many users have come up with workarounds, but none are as quick and elegant as Song Mode.  With song mode, you have 5 programs per song, each 1 click away.  Plus, you can have multiple songs using the same programs, so you don't have to duplicate the programs themselves, which is necessary in the NS4 in order to have multiple setlists that use the same program.

I listen to it a little and not something I'm in a rush to load.   I could hear using it for some film composing type work, but not something I hear for a gig unless as part of layering sounds.    It's like the softness is an effect, now that would be cool to have as an effect that give that type of soft sound but is adjustment as to amount and how quick it affects the sound.

I agree. I have had Nords for many years and don't understand this plethora of Piano offerings (Soft, Felt, Toy, etc.) that are useless for gigging in my opinion.  Nord never really marketed to the film score crowd, it was always the Performance instrument. The amount of upright pianos is incredible, yet I don't use any of them.  I suppose if you are doing a classical or jazz gig where the piano is super-exposed that would be one thing, but for live band performance, I have been using the Silver and White grands exclusively in my Pop/Rock cover bands.

The Wave2 is brand new from Nord. I haven’t done anything with updating samples.

Understood.  The piano samples  in the NW2 are not the same (even if sampled from the same instrument) as the ones in the Nord Piano library used in the Stage series.

  15. Where did you get the sample?  The Wave 2 cannot use samples from the Nord Piano Library, so it looks like you indeed are using a simple one layer sample as you were able to load it into the Wave 2. There are a couple of decent acoustic piano samples that ship with the instrument, try them out.  Otherwise, Tim's suggestion is the way to go-
