  1. Right on, Dave! Awesome story, so glad to hear you"re hitting it again!
  2. Van Wanker whatever makes me long for the actual Jump. I dig the Marvin Ratt though â¦
  3. Had to replace - LED was going intermittent and I couldn"t tell if switch was active or not on stage ⦠life"s too short to play that game
  4. OP would be better off getting a DI box and running either one or two lines to the PA vs using mic"s. There are DIs that can send dual (stereo) feeds THRU to two PPA monitors while summing a mono on the XLR out if you only have one PA channel (or PA is mono). I have this one Samson MCD2
  5. 15"s don"t seem to carry the high frequencies clean and clear enough for keys. Jmo. I prefer a 12 to get the balls-deep low end because many of the sets/bands i play in have a lot of synth where that thick full sound matters. my highs seem to come through strong and clean with a 12, I don"t feel a punch lag or mud as some mentioned. If you have less need for deep thick low-mids, 10s are the most common choice around these parts. My favorites are EV, QSC K.2"s (not original K"s which jmo sound shrill), and Yamaha DXR or better grade. I have the same ELX112P Del-Dave recommends, I bought it now at least 7 yrs ago based on his recommend. Love it. EV have newer models now that are even better i hear, with iOS app controls etc. Yamaha are warm yet bright, love those any time i play through them. I never liked original QSC K series but their Kx.2"s are improved. I have never liked JBL, Alto or the other lower cost options. They aren"t horrible but they aren"t great, again jmo. As you won"t buy a PPA often, i would not scrimp on $100 or $200 to get to that next level but everyone"s financial situation is different. I don"t know the very top end of options (e.g RCF) - most reviews say they are better but the cost increase exceeds the value increase so its an indulgent purchase - again for some the financial part doesnt matter and its right for them. Last note - pushing PPAs to the top limit reduces sound quality (like pushing anything). Look for SPL > 130 and -3db low end of ~50Hz if you want to rock out hard and full with a bit of head room. Don"t be fooled by power ratings as those are electrical power CONSUMPTION values, not sound power output. If a speaker doesn"t report their SPL - its automatically not considered by me. Bonus for mfg"s that publish full spectrum response - you want as flat as possible.
  6. I"d just do it. Don"t ask, send a message to Rick that you"re throwing out this project thing, and it reminded you of him. Wish him well, hope to see him come through these parts again soon blah blah done. I don"t think there are enough normal people out there in the real world that will make any connection whatsoever. odds are 1000% greater they will think of the movie, actually. But what do i know ⦠you"ll decide what feels right for you
  7. Haven"t heard that reference in quite awhile. Felt like a Welcome Back, Kotter moment for some odd reason.
  8. I find Bowie"s Heroes a dull plod to play, but crowd loves to sing along to it.
  9. My favorite KB amp for rehearsal is the rehearsal space"s PA
  10. the mono button sounds as blasphemous as the transpose button. The only gig i do with a lot of AP is a Bowie set, and i always run stereo to FOH. Most of my synth stuff has some slight enhancement in stereo, due to effects vs actual sounds, but its subtle and probably doesn"t even come thru in the wash of a loud ass rock band. I"ll send either per the FOH engineer preference. I"ve noticed most of them expect the kbd to want to run stereo - i assume thats because of you guys
  11. I am still playing the predecessor 12' - wth was it - ELXsomthingsomething? Shit, can"t remember. Still love it though, great full flat sound. I just use it as personal monitor so i don"t run a pair. I think about switching to a 10' often just for an easier schlep but ⦠naw ⦠i always revert back to 'ain"t broke' mode.
  12. Not sure if this solves it for him - one thing I do to get multiple 'instruments' from a single Performance, used to do same with Voices in Motif ⦠use AF1 and AF2. I will program half of the Elements to be active with ALL AF OFF, then half to be active with AF1 On (or AF2 On). I programmed a standard latch footswitch to enable me to trigger AF1 with my foot (hands free). I haven"t used scenes a lot yet. I"m also interested in VB3m - reading great reports on it. I am still loving my MODX, I"ve had it for almost 2 yrs though 1 yr was eaten away by COVID. So glad they came out with the MODX7 - thats the sweet spot for me to be comfortable with a one board rig. Anyone who got the 6, should get the 7
  13. I like the small footprint of the Apex on stage and extreme ease of transport, setup and break down. but i always perform standing too. when at home practicing i sit, and i never use it - as you note, they are not for sitting play. I use an old x-stand that drops to a sitting level nicely, as its a quick trigger set up and down then back in the closet when not used.
  14. I have to admit I feel the same way I have other priorities at the present time that are more important than playing a gig but I am really having a tough time with a death in the family, After being a caregiver and I just can't seem go move on hardest thing I have ever did in my life so attached and watch someone slowly die is really hard. She wanted me to be there and I gave up everything so I feel like I did my best and life goes on I have many other priorities too but i still love playing the occasional (2-3 month max) gig just to get the beak a lil wet. I took a long time off between the 80s and when i restarted gigging, still haven"t got all the yah-yah"s out yet I guess. I still get a kick out of playing in front of a live crowd. I"ll be 60 this year and think I"ll be doing it for another 5 yrs or more. I do turn down offers to add other bands or gigs to the roster. My beak is wet enough and I"m not gonna be a rock star now lol. Good too see the balance here though - if its not a kick for you, don"t do it - do something that is for you. To each his ⦠its not like we"re suffering a shortage of gigging muso"s lol.
  15. We played one show a month ago outside. Now bands are back inside, and its picking up. i have 6 shows booked over the next 2 months so far, which is a lot for me and my hobby. First one is next Sat at an old favorite dive bar. God bless all the dive bar owners that hung in thru one fucked up year+. I"ll be taking my modest dive wages for the first few shows and giving it to the bar staff.
  16. I don"t know what 80s you guys enjoyed, all of my favorite 80s songs involve whiskey, strippers, heroin and/or blow. The only train we sang about was night train, when we couldn"t afford proper whiskey. I think its a cool vibing tune. He"s not my thing so his good music vs his boring music is a dog whistle difference. i just can"t hear ya.
  17. Edgar"s board strung around his neck conjures an image of a stadium vendor selling peanuts at a ballgame to me lol. But he was bad ass.
  18. lol you literally compared yourself to Rosa Parks while saying you didnt. Now you compare your unsuccessful management escalation to the physical harming of children - because sure, that too is the same. I"m looking forward to the next analogy of your plight. ⦠I"m going to go pop some corn.
  19. I had the 3P with the programmer, my first board playing in a band around '83?. Had alot of kicks, a lot of parties, some great shows and girls. I gave it to a young guy must about 5 yrs ago after it sat unattended for years and I had 3 modern keyboard that all do 1000x what it could do. He"s a vintage snob extreme, he prefers ancient beginning of time technology. I love modern keyboards.
  20. I would t pay much for a keyboard that makes cow noises. I might be aligned more to different genres.
  21. I wouldn"t waste 5 minutes on this tussle, much less drive to another town over it. Then again i probably wouldn"t have gotten in a tiff with a sales guy to begin with. Oh, who am I kidding - I"m trigger happy - I"d totally get in a feud with a snarky sales dick, I"d do it just for fun, actually. But i wouldn"t expend any energy after i left the first store. Did OP really compare himself to Rosa Parks? GC used to be awesome, it was like a magical candy store. It kind of sucks now. I buy from them occasionally as I know guys who have lived their music dream so long they are managers at GC now, so I get a great discount. I"d just as soon buy from Sweetwater to be honest, and get double warranty vs GC trying to hard sell their pro coverage (whatever they call it now) insurance. I bought my last keys at GC (MODX7) and i think got 30% off.
  22. I was goin to guess Jump in the keyboard room. I have a couple hours to kill, I almost want to go over and play Jump a few times. Maybe encore with the intro to Sailing Away while I"m at it. Alas, the GC near me in North County only demos about 3 professional keyboards. They instead have a couple dozen $200 digital piano models and the use the rest of the keyboard rooom to stack a thousand mini key USB controller boxes, mostly the 49 key variety. Have to drive down to the east San Diego GC to actually see a professional keyboard.
  23. I don"t like small 8' speakers for live main sound. I know many disagree here but to my ears 8' doesnt have depth of frequency response to push the lows and even low-mids as well as they push the upper frequencies. This doesn"t sound like OP"s problem though. Two 126dB speakers should generate ample output energy. If you"re running at 50% and not hearing enough - I point back to the first posted who suggested just turn up more. Someone asked if you hear yourself well but the audience doesnt - if thats the issue then its a matter of your speakers are too close to your own ears so that loud to you isn"t loud enough for others. Adjusting placement, lowering, those ideas would help If you"re signal doesn"t seem hot enough, there is an output control in the YC88 you can change to +24dB but that sounds like a hell of a lot of boost to me. Not sure what that would result in. In my MODX, i run +3dB output as the basic signal isn"t hot enough without that boost. Gain stage device (e.g. personal small mixer) is an option many use. I don"t like the hassle of more devices, cables, power supplies but many use these to great effect
