  1. If you can't find *anything* to like about Steely Dan, you're not trying hard enough. Cheers, Mike.
  2. Great news. You can always buy a drive pedal if you want more grit. Cheers, Mike
  3. I submu = VII 6/9? Or am I missing something? Cheers, Mike.
  4. It's come down! I thought it launched at $2k? The launch of the 37 was reported here as "half the price of the 61 big brother". Cheers, Mike.
  5. Do you need any of the Laney's features? Specifically the five-input mixer? What's your budget? I quite like Laney's gear - I'm still rocking an old CP10 wedge that must be close to 30 years old, and it still sounds quite nice. Not super-loud (or super-light) but it's paid for itself many times over. Cheers, Mike.
  6. Deserves a requote. If you only did things that you knew would work, you would never do anything new or different. Cheers, Mike.
  7. I wanna hear Lachy Doley cover it. (Ducks and runs). Cheers, Mike.
  8. Lange also wrote and produced this, from "nodders to Irish folk influence" The Corrs. Similar traits to his other work: namely, you can't move for hooks. Every little vocal inflection/gasp/ad-lib precision-choreographed. I remember someone in my youth describing Def Leppard's songwriting process: "Everyone go and write a chorus" i.e. something hooky. They would then use all these choruses as the basis of a song. Cheers, Mike.
  9. Who here knew that was a myth? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-45303069 Cheers, Mike.
  10. No hate from me on the song itself, or the fact that it was written by someone else. Just the production - that's all. Cheers, Mike.
  11. That's precisely the MSolo's niche. If both the MSolo and Mojo had existed 30 years ago, which would you have chosen? (Serious question, I'm not trying to be provocative). Cheers, Mike.
  12. What is this category? Is there a "Best Mainstream Jazz Album" category? I guess the distinction between mainstream and alternative Jazz is just as subjective as between mainstream and alternative Metal, or sculpture/dance/architecture/... Cheers, Mike.
  13. How multitasking are you? https://www.footdrums.com/ Cheers, Mike.
  14. I think Rick Beato tuned and gridded Led Zep, to prove a point. Cheers, Mike.
  15. Warning OT - but this is probably the best thread to add my story on this subject. My daughter is a musical theatre obsessive. I took her to see Newsies here in London, and she asked if we could stay behind at the stage door after the show to meet the cast. I was reluctant - it would be late, and we would still have to travel back home afterwards. Equally, I didn't want to disappoint her (she'd made a poster of the show to give to the cast, for example). Anyway we're walking from the tube (subway) station to the theat[re][er] venue and she taps my arm. "Dad, those two guys behind you are in the cast!". She's too shy to say anything, but I'm not. "Hey! Hi folks, excuse me! Yes you! You're in the show right? My daughter is your biggest fan!". Anyway Ryan Kopel (playing Davey) was gracious enough to talk to her for a few minutes before the show, and accept the poster - and Michael Ahomka-Lindsay (Jack Kelly) said hello as well. My little girl was walking through the clouds for the next two hours, and couldn't stop buzzing all evening. Best part - when the show was over, we saw what was easily the thick end of 100 people waiting outside the stage door. We went straight home, mission accomplished. Cheers, Mike.
  16. Agree with comments that the production is disappointing. The beautiful cello line is buried by the snare drum hitting the compressor across the main stereo bus. And pitch correction? Why? Cheers, Mike.
  17. Alto TX308 would be my pick for this requirement. There might not be easy load-in to some of the rooms where you'll be playing, so weight matters. Cheers, Mike.
  18. @HammondDave do you have any other way of sending MIDI Program Change to the MODX? A DAW or something? Just to confirm where the problem is. Then add a MIDI analyzer to see what MIDI messages are being sent. Cheers, Mike.
  19. Does that include the rotary sim? I was very un-impressed by the CK's sim - the Vox is more credible to my ears. Cheers, Mike.
  20. Loved 90s Frasier. Two quotes are perpetually stuck in my head: Firstly this exchange, concerning Frasier's attempt to write a theme for his radio show: Frasier: All right, um... in my first stanza, I want to represent myself as the... ombudsman between the conscious and subconscious minds of my listeners. Martin: Ah. Well, there you are, that's the song right there. All we need is a rhyme for "ombudsman" and we can go to bed. Frasier: Well, I was playing around with "Norse woodsman." And then there's this one-line masterpiece:
  21. MIDI isn't difficult to learn - don't be put off. Cheers, Mike.
  22. Delia Derbyshire. Daphne Oram. I'll just leave those two names here. Cheers, Mike.
  23. Casio FX-451M FTW: Cheers, Mike.
  24. That was the ultra-desirable limited-edition variant! Cheers ,Mike.
  25. It's probably more like: "How many can we sell, at what price, giving us what total profit". If you can sell 5000 PC461s making $100 profit on each that's better than selling 1000 higher-priced K2761s with a $300 markup. Cheers, Mike.
