  1. The white keys do feel a bit "slippery" compared to other digital pianos I've played. Really dry air (low humidity) around here doesn't help, probably will get better as the weather warms up.
  2. Only one harpsichord patch, though.
  3. The internal speakers aren't bad but I'll likely still bring my EV ZXA1s maybe used in combination with the internal speakers. Bass boost tone setting helps but you can only do so much with 4.5 inch speakers.
  4. Hmmm, the action doesn't feel that much lighter to me than the MODX. Definitely has a better pivot point for the black keys than the Yamaha which feels like I'm fighting it whenever I'm playing pieces that have a lot of flats in the key signature. Definitely can voice chords better not to mention much better dynamic response.
  5. Just received a brand new Kawai ES920 today. No comparison to my Yamaha MODX8+ in regards to the acoustic piano sound and feel, not even close. The other sounds pretty much suck but this is exactly what I need for the majority of my gigs right now. Haven't even gotten into the deep diving yet with the Virtual Technician, sounds great right out of the box! Just ordered their GFP-3 triple pedal for an even better playing experience. Sample in this doesn't sound like my old MP7, that keyboard seemed a lot brighter. Guess I shouldn't have stereotyped Kawai pianos as being too bright, this one has a really warm upper register. Kawai = Solo piano main instrument Yamaha = Everything else (bands, pit orchestra, etc.)
  6. It was a B stock item and they wouldn't give me a discount on a new one, so I ended up ordering a brand new one from Woodwind & Brasswind who did give me a 17 percent discount in addition to some reward points I had. Arrives Wednesday!
  7. I had its bigger brother the ES920 model for less than 24 hours, it was D.O.A. so I took it back to my local Guitar Center today. The action did feel nice. . .
  8. Funny I've heard of Glaub as he has a signature bass but never heard of Clayton, lol.
  9. At one point I was playing it like Richard Tee does here, but nobody could sing along with it (lol) so I reverted back to a simple version in the same key (F). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubYaWgp4Jn0
  10. I've been watching a lot of Merriam Music demo videos on Youtube and now I'm considering the ES920 over the ES520 even though it's 2.5 pounds over my 35 pound weight cutoff. Just sounds that much better (richer) plus it looks like the action is probably superior. Still only 7.5 pounds heavier than my MODX, I guess I can deal with that. Too bad the bigger retailers don't have the 920 in stock at the moment.
  11. Thanks for the suggestions, 73 keys isn't an option as I need the entire range of the keyboard. I used to own an original Kawai MP7 model which wasn't bad albeit too heavy at 47 pounds. Do these newer Kawais have better acoustic piano samples?
  12. This is probably another witch hunt, but I'm wondering if there are any better lightweight stage piano options out there vs. my current Yamaha MODX8+. It's just "okay" for my solo acoustic piano gigs, I've tried numerous piano libraries and still think the Bosendorfer is the best sounding option but there's certain notes around Middle C and the octave above that just don't sound right. I do like all of the other sound options in the MODX for other types of gigs but the majority of my current performances are for solo piano. Is there anything else out there that is: Lightweight (less than 35 pounds) Better action than the MODX (it's a bit on the sluggish side) Better sounding acoustic piano (I know this is very subjective) Polyphony also seems limited at 128 for the MODX, I can hear notes dropping out when I'm playing more complicated pieces with lots of sustained pedal notes. So far I've checked out reviews on the Kawai ES120 and Roland FP-30X, both seem pretty decent for the price. Kawai sounds really bright to my ears, I usually prefer a rounder sound for solo stuff. Not looking to spend the kind of money on a Nord Grand which is a little too heavy anyways. Any other models I should check out?
  13. Last I checked Jamaal Williams just broke Barry Sander's season team touchdown record not to mention they also have D'Andre Swift who is no slouch when healthy. If Brad Holmes makes the right draft picks to improve the defense this is a dangerous team for the long term future. Did I just say that as a Lions fan?!
  14. USPS won't accept a box that has anything alcohol related printed on the outside.
  15. There was an older Baldwin grand when I was an undergrad that I tried to reserve for practice as much as I could, always was impressed with those instruments.
  16. Check your local UHaul store, they have all kinds of different size moving boxes.
  17. I tried that Roland DP-10 pedal and didn't like the feel of it. I always bring a small non-skid carpeted mat and apply velcro to the bottom of my pedal, works great.
  18. I just found out there's an iOS version of Ravenscroft which everybody seems to "rave" about (haha) at least the full VST version. Anyone on here use the iOS version and how it compares?
  19. I guess you missed the whole Michigan destroying that football team from Ohio last weekend on their home turf? More talent doesn't always mean a better team!
  20. Intro to Mr. Crowley by Ozzy is a CS-80 pretty sure. Yamaha has made some killer synths!
  21. Kind of an aside, but what pianos does Nord sample for their libraries? Any idea what piano the White Grand actually is?
  22. Probably posted this on here before but this is one of my favorite live performances from him, he "kills" the solo! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06xZyh8VBFQ
  23. My pharmacist told me that doctors can't prescribe Ambien after a certain age, can't remember what it was though. I have a px for 10 mg and I cut the pills in half. I use them very rarely as it's easy to build up a tolerance to it, but when I get home at 2 AM from a gig and have to be on the organ bench the next morning a half pill usually knocks me out within 15 minutes. Also have a px for Lunesta but that stuff doesn't seem to work as well plus it has a nasty aftertaste. Other natural things I've tried are 5-HTP, Tryptophan, high dose melatonin, lavender essential oil, kava kava, and valerian root.
  24. Version 13.1.5 just came out today! Going to try it tomorrow with my MODX and see if it works again.
