  1. I am an educator. Been one for several universities for well over 40 years. But working at a university does not necessarily make you a good educator. Connecting with and effectively teaching students makes you a good educator. Like I said before, I have used Rick's episodes in the classroom, and the students are engaged and learn!
  2. Sadly, most artists spend their entire lives trying to be noticed. Let’s celebrate and encourage those who actually achieve this… especially the ones who perform a public service.
  3. It’s not a binary classification. There is a difference between forum members who constructively criticize fellow artists and those who appear downright jealous of a fellow musician who has broken ground in on-line educational content and presentation.
  4. Damn. A lot of sad haters on here. Give credit where credit is due. The guy is a good interviewer, shares a great deal of musical knowledge, and is a good person. He is performing an educational service (for FREE, by the way). Even his guests like him! Don’t like him? Then start your own interview show and see if you can book the guests he books.
  5. Glad to see Rick getting the accolades he deserves. Love his interviews and his explanations of how the songs were arranged, performed, and recorded. I have used his videos in my undergrad and graduate classes, and my students love them. Plus, as many have said, he is a super nice person.
  6. That’s always been the case of Yamaha synths since the DX7. Yamaha can be pretty stubborn sometimes.
  7. It Did!!!! Talk about a strange coincidence, this morning one of our old groupies from the early 70's contacted me and sent me this photo of me playing my Wurlitzer from 1971~!!! (I was 16!). Yes, that's a V4 head sitting on top of a 122. I had a stack of two V4 cabinets behind the drums. My C3 is on the right behind the singer. Weird that this happened while we were posting about a Wurlitzer re-issue...
  8. We are not worthy… Its really that simple. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall during those amazing Wrecking Crew sessions.
  9. I would vote for a Wurlie through an Ampeg V4 (like Ian McLagen used to play). That was part of my rig in the 70’s and I chose Ampeg precisely for that reason. I wanted THAT sound.
  10. McLagen was a master of the Wurly. I loved his sound so much that I purchased an Ampeg V4 stack to power my 200A
  11. I totally agree with Steve. When you have Prophet and OB reissues…. Watching and waiting.
  12. A great Rick Beatto interview with Michael Omartian and his work with Steely Dan. The sections on “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” and “Aja” are amazing!
  13. This looks very interesting. Kind of like those lit buttons on the bottom.
  14. Just to clarify, the organ was not under a tarp. Paul Griffin was already playing it when he moved to piano for “Like a Rolling Stone”. Here is the story as told by Al. Funny and amazing. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/kooperkast/id1540893664?i=1000499103236 Here is the short episode about that session and Al’s comments on learning piano and the freedom of composing with synths. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/kooperkast/id1540893664?i=1000588258633 Love this story about “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/kooperkast/id1540893664?i=1000507532162 Al and Jimi Hendrix. A hysterical story! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/kooperkast/id1540893664?i=1000499103236 Another hysterical story about Randy California, Deep Purple, and 2001 https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/kooperkast/id1540893664?i=1000499103232
  15. Yeah… lots of gems like that. Worth a listen.
  16. I discovered a new podcast called “KooperKast”. This podcast consists of short interviews with B3 legend, Al Kooper. Among the many interesting discoveries that I’ve listened to so far, maybe the most surprising was when Al said that he has never had a B3 in his home studio because they are so large and heavy. That is so hard to believe.
  17. I totally agree. Always thought that Manassas was an excellent album.
  18. In this age of extreme cynicism we continue to judge artists based on their early abilities. Some artists improve with age, others battle physical and sometimes mental deterioration which affects their musicianship. One thing it does not affect however, is their soul. Brava, Joni.
  19. Have to agree with Bill on this one…. https://fb.watch/q2a_sBpabY/?mibextid=cr9u03
  20. Always thought that Stills was an under appreciated Hammond player. Along with his famous solo on Love the One You’re With, he played Hammond on most of the CSN albums. “Questions” has always been a favorite… Here is one of my favorite live video performances from many decades ago, from the Tom Jones Show. https://fb.watch/q2a2aH9dkV/?mibextid=v7YzmG
  21. The drummer is claiming to copy the “sound” of a Phill Ramone produced BJ song. Liberty’s playing and sound was crucial to those Phil Ramone productions. I can relate to some random drummer, as I am just a random keyboard player. I, nor just about anyone else on this forum, is in Billy Joel’s talent universe. So when criticizing someone’s playing or writing abilities, I first look in the mirror.
